Aside from all the core amenities you'd want out of a hotel (e.g. pool, bar, restaurants on site, etc.), the one major differentiator for us is the customer service. We had the privilege to have Terry help us during this trip. Long story short, the most recent Hurricane Nolo storm that passed through the islands changed our plans quite a bit, so we ended up with multiple reservations onsite with different types of rooms. Terry made the entire experience so much easier and was incredibly patient and kind as we worked through everything. We really appreciated how understanding and thoughtful Terry was throughout the process. Much appreciation to Terry and the rest of the hotel staff for the hospitality. We're already looking forward to returning here on our next trip.

There are two pools, both kept at a comfortable temperature that makes for a refreshing dip. You can walk the beach all along Kīhei, even across the street, it just isn't easy in some areas. Cons: Need a car! The adult pool at the resort was cloudy and dirty from the pigeon's. Never saw them cleaning the pool until we complained the third day. Then they tried to clean it better l, especially after our review and we complained again. They need to do something about the pigeons before it gets better. The other pools were pristine. You rarely see a pool attendant, no help moving chairs or umbrellas. Only the adult pool area have nice comfortable covers, about 25, the rest are very uncomfortable. Wore down crappy cabanas with dirty covers, no TV's working or refrigerators, not that I would use them, but if you have them they should be in working order. Complained to Chanel, day manager who didn't seemed too concerned. She did come down and looked but no feedback expect pool service did seem to improve, just not resolved. The grab and go is really just a small fast food restaurant, no food only drinks. Are room was great except for dirty floors from something they put on them (photo with stain from wet foot). Moldy shower walls (photo). Cabinet in front of sink has a handle I hit my head on each time I wash dishes. Washer very loud!

A special thank you to Shermila, the front desk manager. When the storm affected our plans, she was incredibly friendly, helpful, and able to accommodate us for an additional night in the same room. During what could have been a stressful situation, she made everything much easier for us. We really appreciated her kindness and professionalism. Pros: The staff throughout the property were very friendly and welcoming. The resort did not feel overcrowded, which made for a relaxing stay. Our room was modern, spacious, and comfortable, with a full-size kitchen that was great to have. There are a few areas that could use improvement. Housekeeping could benefit from additional training and attention to detail, as the room cleaning was not as thorough as we would have expected. The patio furniture also appeared as though it had not been cleaned in a very long time, possibly since the property opened. Unfortunately, it was dirty enough that we did not feel comfortable sitting outside and enjoying the patio. Another disappointment was the food situation. The website indicates there is a kitchen on site, but there are actually no restaurants at the property, including by the pool, and there is no real breakfast option. There is a bar across the street with limited hours that serves bar food, as well as a grab-and-go area. We received a coupon for the grab-and-go, but the options with the coupon were extremely limited. We were only able to order a premade McMuffin-style breakfast sandwich, while the other items were not eligible with the coupon. Despite these areas for improvement, we are still giving our stay five stars because of the friendly staff and, most importantly, the way Shermila and the front desk team took care of us during a difficult situation with the storm. That level of service made a lasting impression and was very much appreciated.

Engineer had to come to help fix some issues with the shower door and two of the sliding door were installing upside down and backward but these issues didn't affect our stay. The room was clean, comfortable and surprisingly quiet for a room located next to the elevator. Check in was a breeze and the valet team were both prompt and friendly. You receive a welcome drink and a lei ( flower for females and kuki nut for males). Amenities were the same as our previous stay. They have activities throughout the day for guests which is nice for families and young kids. Our child loved being by the pool and we spent most of our time there. The beach front access and setups are a huge plus for this property. You can snorkel right off of the beach and see fish and sea turtles. Overall, we had another great experience at the Andaz Maui and will return again in the future.

In the spirit of improvement, I wanted to share that concierge left much to be desired. While they were all very nice I found them disorganized, slow to respond and just not the quality or efficiency I would expect from a Four Seasons. I emailed over a week before our trip asking for dining recs, activities and car rentals and at first didn't hear back for a couple of days. I then called to follow up and got a response but information was provided piecemeal. I had to talk to 3 different people in order to get most of my questions answered (but not all). I had to repeat myself often in emails and do duplicate work to get things booked. Getting everything squared away though (activities, and dining reservations etc.) took hours of emailing, phone call chats and in my opinion should have been more streamlined. Of the folks I spoke to, I found Melissa the most helpful and wished more of the people I spoke to were as helpful as her. Eventually I had to resort to just booking dining reservations myself - no big deal but I feel like part of the value proposition of a FS is that they do all of these things for you. When I spoke with the third person to ask for dining recs all her top ones were the hotel restaurants which is fine but I'm calling because I want to go beyond the hotel walls. The restaurants at the hotel also were fine but not the very best. After a few emails to the concierge I received the dining guide and info on things to do with the kids when this would have been helpful to receive from the beginning. I know that part of the challenge is the revolving door nature of a concierge at some hotels, with different people working each day and having to re-read past email threads etc. but I'm sure there's a solution for this.

Grand Wailea is a luxury oceanfront property in the Wailea area of Maui. It's located directly next…read moreto Wailea Beach and spans 40 acres. It's also located next to The Shops at Wailea, a luxury shopping mall. We were told that the resort was in the shape of a turtle, and once that was mentioned the resort map made it obvious. The resort is along a string of luxury hotels right by the water connected by a walking/running path. In the morning you'll see tons of people along that path. We got a double queen bed with ocean views, and the bathroom contained both a tub and a shower. The resort amenities include but are not limited to a gym, multiple pools (including an adult-only one), lounge chairs, cabanas, water slides, and a spa. The spa had complimentary fitness classes which we took advantage of. Some of them were on the beach and in the fitness room, but some are paid. There are activities like massages, sound baths, and other types of wellness activities. To use the pool amenities you need a wristband which you get by one of the covered areas. Only valet parking is available for $80/night. They also have a on-site luau which I went to although I've been to better ones. There's a chapel and we even witnessed a wedding during our time there. We also went to Nobu at the resort which I enjoyed. Although it's a luxury resort, some parts of the resort were outdated and broken such as the room signs. The room interior was modern but some exterior parts of the building were on the older side. The location and the views are definitely the selling point of the resort, and it's a place you want to stay at to take advantage of the views and amenities.

The breakfast is very nice and pretty standard self-serve. Good and plentiful. Again, the staff was helpful in getting little things for the family. For what it would cost at the Waldorf, one night there took care of three rooms at the Residence Inn. I'd definitely go back there again.

The rooms have plenty of space and some with ocean views and lanais. There is a self service laundromat which makes a difference if you're a light packer. The ground ls are kept tidy and it's normally peaceful in the common areas.

Their suites are spacious and the lanai is perfect to watch sunsets every night. The pools are crowded and I did not use them but I did like the beach and service throughout the hotel. Check in was an easy process. Lux in particular was super nice and helped me deal with an issue I was having. They have a nice gym, I didn't use it as I having too much fun on this trip! Plenty of restaurants on site. Self parking is free and plenty so valet isn't necessary. My advice is to call the concierge before you arrive and book the complementary canoe ride as it gets filled fast. I called them from LA 2 weeks before arriving and got the last spot. It was one of the highlights of my trip! If you like great service, amazing views and like staying in South Maui, this is one of my favorite hotels there. I will definitely be back!
