Sometimes I get looked at and they just ignore that I exist. This store is closer to me, but I've started going to the Sandy locations, the extra driving makes up for standing around for someone to notice me.

Oh boy... where to begin... We visited last night (Friday the 13th) about 15 minutes prior to the…read morescheduled close time. The guy at the counter, Jeremy, said that they have already shut down the machines in the back, so we can't get paint. We asked him if he pulls up our account, whether or not he would be able to find samples from about 6 years ago. He said "yes", but began to complain about the "MS Dos system" that the computer runs on and it will take about ten minutes to get it all sorted out. The excuses alone took over ten minutes. He advised us to come back in the morning and it will get sorted out, so, we left, empty handed. I returned today, 14Jan, and was surprised to see Jeremy at the counter. He seemed put out when I asked him to pull our order history... no one else in the store, mind you. He seemed to pull up a lot of colors that we don't have in our account. I asked if he could show me the colors that he was finding, to which he said "nope". I asked if he knew whether they were gray or green and he told me that the computer doesn't give him that information. He told me "honestly, it would just be easier with a paint chip". Well, I could have used that information prior to my second wasted trip. I left again, empty handed. Went home, collected some paint chips and headed back to the store. Visit #3 was about 40 minutes after I left the second time. Feeling confident, I walked up to the counter and presented my paint chips. He looked at them and goes "those are much to small for the reader". Again, information about the size of the paint chip would have been nice prior to sending me home. I told him that I am not leaving the store until he does what he can to help me find the product I need. The reader did in fact pull some paint colors, so I took Jeremy over to the paint samples on the wall, and I started to compare them myself. My wife had called and asked if he was able to help, and of course, was pretty peeved about the terrible service Jeremy was offering. I found one of the two colors and told him I needed just a quart. My wife, found the nearly 7 year old leftover paint in the garage, since she knew Jeremy was not being helpful. With a picture, I tried to order the second color. Jeremy says "oh, we don't carry that color". I told him, as nicely as I could that I am not leaving without my product at least being ordered at another store. After about ten minutes, he sorted it out. Hopefully. I left the store, empty handed for a third time. My wife and I literally did this guy's job for him. It was a terrible showing in knowledge of the product and customer service. Now, I am heading to another Sherwin Williams location. Visit number 4, coming up. Needless to say, I do not recommend this location. This was a gigantic waste of my time. We had been using this store for years without this kind of issue, but will no longer return. Update- Jeremy sent in the wrong order. Awesome. He has completely passed the buck to the other store.

I am not a stickler for this, but many people are, and I do think it is nice. Not to mention, after so much time in the store with no communication, it felt a little awkward. Eventually, I had a question and walked by one employee taking a personal call at the front desk. The other was arranging items in one of the aisles. I politely said, "excuse me," and waited so long for a response I thought she had not heard me. I was just opening my mouth to repeat myself when she turned around and brusquely said, "yes?" My inquiry was regarding different paint sheens as they had examples of every variety save pearl, and when I inquired for more details on that one in particular, she simply said, "oh, nobody orders that." Way to sell your product! After some prodding, she finally conceded it was similar to low gloss, and when I mumbled, "okay, thanks...." She just walked off. Didn't ask if I had any other questions or needed help with anything else. Imagine if I had wanted to place an order! The hassle! I love their paint, specifically Cashmere, which is just dreamy, forgiving for non-skilled home painters, and makes walls appear buttery soft. Thankfully, I've used Sherwin Williams many times before, so I'm not judging the company off this one odd and unhelpful customer service experience, but otherwise, I certainly would not have returned. Thankfully, there is also another location truly ¼ mile north of this one, so I just stopped by that store to make my purchase (and was met by two much friendlier employees). SW is pricey, but worth it for the glory that is Cashmere. Sign up for their emails and you will quite often receive a coupon for 30% off all paints and stains. Very occasionally, they will do 40%. You can purchase painting supplies like brushes and rollers (even the exact same brands like Purdy) for much less elsewhere, so skip 'em.

There are two kinds of Sherwin-Williams paint stores: commercial and regular retail. This is a…read morecommercial one, and know what? I'm all about it. I far prefer this no nonsense commercial approach and don't need or want all of the fancy displays or literature. I just need a can of paint. There are drawbacks, of course, to the commercial stores. Mostly it's about selection and sizing. They may not sell what you want in the 1-gallon, or they may not have every grade of paint. They may also have the commercial grade that the retail stores do not, so I guess it goes both ways. Mostly, though, I've only ever had really excellent service here at this commercial location. I came at first meeting with someone to design a project, and they were able to answer a ton of questions and find the right grade, color, and finish of paint that worked for my application. You know you're adulting pretty hard when you have a strong opinion on retail v commercial paint stores, but here we are and I'm certainly not the only one who feels this way.

I'm…read moreusually greeted within a minute of entering the store, and when I have bought paint they always carry it to my car for me. Speaking of which, I've had mixed experiences with their actual paint. I used their Super Paint to paint a living room dark blue. It was previously a khaki color, and I questioned the sales associate several times about using a primer. They assured me that one was not needed with that particular paint. So wrong! It was very thin with poor coverage. I think I ended up doing about 5 coats, and in a space that large that was so exhausting. For some reason I decided to give them another try and bought their Cashmere paint for a bedroom (going from white to a light pink). This paint is fabulous. It's thick, covers great, and has a really lovely soft (almost powdery) finish. The price of their paint is expensive ($50-$60 a gallon, sometimes more), and I don't like that they don't have a guarantee on their paint like Behr (which I'm pretty sure you can return even if you just don't like the color), but I REALLY love how the cashmere paint looks, so I pay the ridiculous prices anyways. Unless they are on sale don't buy your brushes and accessories here, though, because they are much less at a home improvement store like Home Depot or Lowes. So now I'm purchasing some paint for a bedroom, bathroom, and my front door. Cross your fingers for me that my experience this time around will be positive like my most recent one! Oh, and a tip: Join their Paint Perks club. I think it gives you 10% off your purchase anytime, but more importantly, they will email or mail you coupons, usually for 30-40% off paint, and sometimes supplies or stains as well. Also, check their website before going to the store because it usually shows what coupon they are accepting, and they don't advertise that in the store (which is a little sneaky, frankly!).

Bead not only took the time to ask questions to understand my project but then spent over an hour with me teaching me how to safely and effectively use the paint sprayer I was renting. And in my book - that makes all the difference!
