ARC…read moreprovided a quote ( without visiting our home) that included the following sentence, "Please confirm exterior walls are framed 2x4". I told the rep that other companies have inspected our home and stated that our walls are suitable for blown in insulation. ARC never came to visit our home - while their competitors did this as a standard account management cycle. Fast forward to this week, I was ready to sign the agreement and pay the deposit - the rep asked me to confirm the 2x4 framing. I asked him how he wanted me to do this - he suggested I drill pilot holes in each wall or pay a 3rd party to do this and that ARC was not responsible for verifying the details of our home. Not responsible for validating a critical project detail before having you customer pay thousands of dollars?! Extremely poor customer service and frankly, a lazy sales team. I am sure the crews doing the work are great, but the accounts team could use a refresh. I will work with a competitor unless ARC has employees willing to visit their prospective customers!

Absolutely outstanding. I just moved into a new construction…read morecustom home in which the build / builder was a disaster. Any concern brought up, I was either gaslit , ignored or the builder didn't follow through either b/c he forgot or didn't care ( who can say ? ). After two agonizing years, i finally moved in yet was brimming with questions that could only be answered by a respected 3rd party expert. I knew there were areas of the house that were not constructed properly yet having been gaslight so many times, I was confused on what all was defective vs. normal. Big thank you to Mark w/ Domicile, who was my Lead Inspector. Mark carries decades of experience in which I found him to be fair, firm, patient and very educative. Shout out to him for answering ALL of my questions (there were many). Mark's report was very thorough in which I can now focus on areas that need to be addressed. To anyone out there building a custom home, don't make the same mistake I did in waiting until after your move in / final occupancy to book Domicile. Very important! Thank you Domicile/ Mark.

At first I didn't think I needed an inspection since it was a newer condo and it looked in good shape. But I was able to get credits from the seller from his findings that paid for the inspection and then some. They also had one of the lower prices when i compared with other inspectors.

Jim at Advanced Insulation Solutions was super responsive to multiple projects that I had him and…read morehis team do. He was able to help me convert my garage to a gym by insulating the roof for me - which has made it possible for me to work out in the winter there. He also had his team insulate my entire house as well as do some ventilation work. The work was great, fairly priced, and they were responsive. 5/5, would recommend to anyone.

We purchased a home built in the 1950s that was (almost) fully renovated in 2013. Our inspector…read moretold us the insulation looked like it hadn't been refreshed in 40 years and was severely deficient by modern standards. Jim was one of a few companies that I received estimates from for insulation, but he was far and away the most thorough and descriptive. As a first time home owner, I didn't know a shingle from a soffit - Jim made the whole process easy to understand. Further, his report on our home after the estimate was like a graduate thesis, but in layman terms. I'm far more educated about my home after working with Jim, and I finally have adequate insulation in my attic and crawl space. He was also reasonably priced (competitive with another estimate and 1/3 of the most expensive estimate that we received). TL:DR - I would recommend Jim and his team to anyone looking to up their insulation game (he also does HVAC and Solar, although we weren't in the market for these).

On the phone Mark quoted me an attic insulation price that was similar to my 4 other quotes and…read moreagreed to price match other apples to apples quotes. He seemed knowledgeable, really into the details and like he wasn't going to miss a thing. So I agreed to an "energy audit" that would investigate my house and find issues. Mike was fantastic and personable and performed the $495 "audit". However, the "audit" was a blower door test and combustion test, both of which are already required and included by all the other insulators. The audit missed several other things the other quotes mentioned for free, like my attic ventilation was wasn't up to code. After the lackluster "audit" the quote came in much higher than the phone estimate. When I sent another quote over, Mark worked the price down to so that it was about $495 over the other quote. I agreed because I had already paid for the audit and wanted to be refunded that $495. The morning of the insulation, Mark called right before the team was supposed to be getting there and asked if I'd checked my email to see that the combustion test failed and I wouldn't get the $700 rebate unless I replaced my boiler and water heater. I agree and don't want back drafting or carbon monoxide poisoning. However, the 'audit' was 2 weeks ago and I'd spoken to Mark the day before so he had every chance to let me know, but he failed to mention this issue until the morning of. TL;DR: They might be great guys and do a great job, but do not get the 'energy audit' because it'll be included in any other BPI certified insulation quotes.

AES just insulated my attics and doors, and did a thorough, professional job. I got other quotes…read morefrom businesses with very high Google ratings. But AES came in lower than others, likely because they recommended the insulation solution that was most appropriate for my house. I could understand how folks could get scared away by the $495 audit. But I found the audit report useful and actionable. One key example: the audit correctly identified a health hazard in my basement that needed to be remedied immediately. If you're questioning the point or cost of the audit, I'd just recommend you hang in there and trust the process. The entire cost of the work (including the audit) is fair. And AES's approach is the correct one: You don't necessarily need foam insulation throughout your entire attic, as air generally leaks from specific parts of the wall and ceiling. What these guys propose--a targeted use of foam and plates, in addition to bio-friendly insulation throughout the attic--feels right to me. And the three guys that came to do the work were solid. They knew their stuff, answered all my questions, and paid special attention to some problem areas I identified. They also cleaned everything up well, and didn't even mention how hellish my attic is. (It's nearly impossible to move up there.) For folks that just want someone trustworthy to execute a sensible solution for their house, these guys are it.
