I pick up some traditional ones in red, along with beautiful ones in non-traditional colors, such as iridescent blue or purple. Ho Tai also has greeting cards for different occasions. Their prices are very good. The people here are very helpful if you need advice on which red envelopes (or cards) to buy. There are different designs with Chinese art and calligraphy for the lunar new year, birthdays, births, and weddings. To save time, I purchase a lot of stationery with the all-occasion good fortune "fú" character, 福, on it. After being scammed (and embarrassed) twice with gift cards from Safeway that I found out later did not work, I've switched to giving red envelopes instead. I may not be able to write the characters, but recognizing them is good enough for me, being that I am an ABC. We walk in and I don't see the employee. He or she must be in the back of the store. Okay, this place is loaded with a wide range of red money envelopes for Chinese New Year, weddings, birthdays and for any other happy occasion. It's wall to wall with a gazillion of red money envelopes on shelves and tables. The Chinese banners hanging on the wall are beautiful. Female employee finally appears when my sister is ready to pay for the items she has selected. It's cash only for purchases. The only drawback - the aisles are narrow. It can be difficult to maneuver around if there are 10 or more people browsing and shopping at the same time.
