I love Primo's. When I have a hankering for chips and salsa and Mexican food, this is one of my go to places, aside from somewhere on 24th St in Omaha. They have specials every day, like taco day, enchilada day, etc, that are very decently priced. The food is good and the service is good too. I'd say it's Americanized Mexican food and sometimes that's exactly what I want. My favorite is the taco and enchilada lunch that comes with a side of rice and beans (as well as chips and salsa). The fajitas are delicious, as are the enchiladas. But they portions keep getting smaller and smaller. Sometimes when I order fajitas all I get vegetables when I ordered three meat. Maybe it's just the time of the day I'm not sure. But otherwise the taste is good. They have decent size chicken quesadillas which are pretty good too read more

Seriously this place is so underrated! I was visiting from out of town yesterday and stopped for lunch. Don't even get me started on the tacos or I won't shut up... The best tacos of my life, and I have eaten a lot of tacos in my day. The shell was deep fried but not too heavy(the perfect amount of crunchy), just the right amount of meat, cheese, lettuce, and tomato(added a side of sour cream). The server was probably the best I have had. I ordered a Pepsi, normally I drink Mountain Dew but didn't see it on the menu. The waitress overheard the conversation while bringing my Pepsi and came back a few seconds later with a Mountain Dew. Primo's deserves all the stars! read more

I eat at Primo's regularly. I have never had a bad meal or service. I will say what a lot of these other reviews do, the steak tacos are bomb(dot)com. Mondays are Margarita nights, they're just as good too. I love Cari and she always does a great job when she has served me. Now open for breakfast. Primos is aptly named all the way around. It starts with what may be the most tasteful re-purposing of an old convenience store I've ever seen. A prompt friendly greeting from our server followed with warm, homemade chips and salsa with just the perfect combination of flavor and kick. I ordered a lunch combo enchilada, taco (both beef) with refried beans and rice, Anne had two beef tacos in a combo. Several minutes later our meals arrived on warm (not hot) plates. So many Mexican places make all their tacos and enchiladas in advance and then just nuke the hell out of 'em, slop on some salsa and serve it. This was obviously made from scratch mexican-american food and it was excellent in every way! After having lived in Southern Arizona for a few years I realize that regional differences exist even that close to the border so the whole "authentic of not" conversation is not relevant either here or in Tucson. What matters is good food that is well prepared and thoughtfully presented. Primos does just exactly that and I've found my new go-to Mexican Restaurant. read more

Family owned, homemade Mexican food. Used to be a 7 Eleven, and now is a fun place to eat for kids and adults. Chips and salsa are great, margaritas are yummy, and the food is fantastic. No matter if you are ordering from one of the meal choices or one of the specials you will find something you like. Solid Mexican food and service. As a solo diner, and a bit jet-lagged at that, it was nice to have a pleasant meal in a popular local restaurant. Sure, I could have eaten at a chain restaurant, and sure, I could have had some generic Mexican food. However, I would have missed out on a very pleasant experience. This place is worth all of its "hype" and more! Brian and I went here after dropping off the kiddos...so when we saw how small the place was (parking lot even smaller) we were a little doubtful. The site was once a Kum m Go afterall! After scoring a spot just off the street, we walked in to either seating at the bar or the last booth..SCORE! Their tap list was a little limited but it was helped by a pretty healthy bottled beer list. The server was very friendly and met us very quickly with chips and homemade salsa - we must have looked famished. We ordered beers and asked for what they were famous for. She had some great suggestions - but the one that stuck out...2 day marinated carne asada. I ordered a CA taco & chile rellano plate, my DH ordered a chile rellano and burrito plate. It came and we were amazed at the flavors!! Everything was wonderful. Now if no one had already reviewed Primo's before this...I might wonder if this was merely the initial joy of havng my husband all to my self..but no. Okay after reading previous reviews, maybe it was time to chime in. My wife and I have alway used Primos as a stand by breakfast spot. Not because it was close but the food was delicious. They have a chorizo and egg burrito that is simply the best. The hash browns are not typical, a little edgy because of a spice I'm still trying to figure out. Don't get me wrong, these are absolutely the best in Council Bluffs (sorry Duncan's). But actually the coolest thing about Primos is the is the Cheers of CB. Sure the food is really not as authentic as Mexico, but hey we're in Iowa. But the dishes offered are tremendous. Had a family member up from Lawrence, KS and she raves about the fajitas. Scolding hot dish with sizzling chicken was her pick for the evening. My wife her traditional standard, a delicious tostada with super quac. Me the chimichanga with chorizo is the most excellent of all. Again this is a neighborhood joint for folks that want to relax, enjoy and just kick back. And surprise the food is excellent. The drinks , I'm a real beer guy And the Corona is ice cold. So this place is worth every penny. Try it it will please and surprise. Good on you guy! read more

I spent the night in Council Bluffs, IA on my way to Michigan. I asked the front desk guy where was some good Mexican food and he suggested La Mesa up the road. I started in and knew immediately the place was a chain. I left. I went to Yelp on my phone and found Primos. Boy did it turn out to be the right choice. Probably the best repurposing of a Kwik Shop ever!!! this place rocks, the burritos are great, real ground beef filling and a wonderful collection of seasonings make them awesome. The chicken enchilada's are also at the top of my list as well as the taco's. Then there is this monstrosity of a cheeseburger...grilled onion, jalapenos, bacon, cheese, not one but 2 patties of beef...it is all you can do to eat half of it. And the chips & salsa are extremely good too. It is off the beaten path, but worth looking for, and when they have specials, they are even more incredible. We just discovered this place recently but have been back several times and it is always the same...great! read more

I live right around the corner from this establishment. When they first opened I figured "Great" I'd have a close establishment to patronize. So the first time I ordered the Emilio's special to-go. They said it would take 25 to 30 min before I could Pick it up. I waited 25 minutes to pick it up and once I arrived, I sat there another 10 min waiting for anyone to acknowledge my presence. There was only one other party dining in there. I called over the bar tender, as I was sitting at the bar without being asked if I wanted something to drink, and asked how long before my order would be ready, he acted like I just took away his best friend, he was not happy. Then he hung up the phone and brought my order to me then rang it up and never even said thank you or you're welcome when I thanked him. I got home and the food was cold. It was nasty. The burrito was flavorless and the beans were bland. I swore I would never patronize that establishment again. Then yesterday my husband and I decided to just go out for a drink and My husband figured how could they screw up a bottle of beer so we went to Primos since it was close by. We walked in and the waitress asked if there was just two in the party and we said yes and we would just sit at the bar. She continued to the next customers. We sat directly in front of the bar tender, who was chatting and laughing with a friend on the phone. He didn't acknowledge us at all. We sat there for almost 10 minutes with him just enjoying his conversation on the phone. So I suggested loudly to my husband that we should go to Applebees instead where we could get some service. He didn't even flinch and continued talking on the phone. I wouldn't step foot in that place again if you paid me. And I will tell everyone I know what a lousy place this is unless you are latino then they may treat you better. I wouldn't even give them one star but the system won't let me give them no stars or minus stars. read more

I would have loved to have given 5 stars because the food and margaritas were all awesome, but the service was almost comical! We had server after server walk past us and not even acknowledge we were even waiting, even though the sign said please wait to be seated. When we finally got sat it was by both a man and woman. We had 6 of us so we decided what we wanted to eat and drink all the while we had no napkins, silverware, etc. I notice other patrons being seated and waited on that came in after us so I flagged the waitress down. She asked us who sat us, this is where it's comical, I said you were the one that sat us. So that got straightened out. For that rest of the meal we had to ask for EVERYTHING. I didn't feel like it was just us being singled out as I watch other diners coming in grumbling about the service and even hear one gentleman call out a waitress because she kept walking by them and not acknowledging them either. I hope someone from the restaurant reads this and hopefully addresses at least the staff acknowledging the customers because they have great food! read more
