Being someone who loves to cook, I would have rather died than serve dry chicken breast, instant mashed potatoes and canned green beans at my wedding. At the same time, being a bride on a budget doesn't give you a lot of options. I came across Catering Creations when I was at my wits end with caterers and am so, so grateful that I found them. First of all, the food in general, is amazing. They have so many options for the sides and main courses. If you are looking for a standard buffet, the cheapest buffet pricing comes with a gourmet salad (nuts, cranberries, feta cheese, real lettuce, etc), fresh fruit ,which looks so pretty on the table and rolls with butter. Already, that is much more bang for the buck than other caterers I considered. It's an even better deal because everything is fresh. On top of that, Catering Creations catered my event in Lincoln, and they were STILL cheaper than other caterers in Lincoln and Omaha...oh, AND they placed my china order for me, and picked up/dropped off all china rental items for me, for free, like it was no problem whatsoever. In addition to them being so accommodating, the staff just really went above and beyond during the wedding. They were so kind to all of the guests, they assisted the wedding coordinators at the event move tables, and waited a good amount of time to start taking plates from guests. Many guests told me for weeks after that it was the best meal they had ever had at a wedding. I can't agree more. I stuffed myself silly, and that was difficult to do as the bride! There really isn't anything more gratifying than sitting at the head table and watching people hoof it back to the buffet for a second heaping plate of food. I forgot to mention - they also cut your cake...FOR FREE!

The food descriptions sound fancy and nice, but after attending a number of their tastings, all the main dishes I sampled were really quite bland. The best thing by far was their Gouda Mac & Cheese. Unfortunately catering creations was the only choice we could use at the venue we booked.

Sorry no pics. I have been too busy munching....next time Gadget...Next time…read more... Anyhow, onto the food. I went to Pinkerton's in San Antonio Texas, and the BBQ was unbelievable there. Just amazing. I have also had the BBQ in the KC MCI Airport where they serve really good drafts alongside their really good BBQ. These guys are not like Pinkerton's where you are in a line up picking out your meats and sides cafeteria style. This place was the sit down with a menu and make your selections type of place. This is not a downside by any means...just different than what I experienced in Texas, more like the place at the MCI Airport. Anyways, hubby, son, and I selected the burnt ends, pulled pork, chicken, kielbasa sausage, double order of brisket, and ribs. Sides we chose included slaw, Mac n cheese, cornbread, and fried onions. All of the sides were really tasty, I can't choose a favorite, because I really liked all of them. The meats were all tender, the chicken was slightly on the drier side, but the rib meat fell off the bone, the sausage was juicy, the pulled pork was just right in flavor and tenderness, the burnt ends were amazing, and the brisket was tender and quite flavorful. And on the side of all of this loveliness were the sauces. You got 3 kinds to choose from: Spicy, sweet, and the traditional bbq. I liked all three. Hubby liked to mix all 3 together. And son of mine preferred the sweet one. We were dead silent aside from the sounds of yum coming from us. It reminded us of the MCI airport bbq place. Servers were pleasant, the place was clean as well. This was a very pleasant surprise to find here in Omaha. I will most definitely come back again!

Sunday night dinner took us to the CB Pizza Ranch because sometimes you just need pizza, chicken,…read moremashed potatoes, and soft-serve ice cream all at once. And when that moment strikes, Pizza Ranch understands. The parking lot didn't seem too busy, but don't let that fool you--the inside was hoppin' with patrons of all ages and energy levels (mostly high energy... mostly from the under-10 crowd). We headed to the counter and happily took advantage of the senior and military pricing--thank you, Pizza Ranch, for respecting both our appetites and our wallets. We didn't hesitate to go full "Buffet Your Way" because honestly, if you're not doing that, are you even living? Pro tip: You can order your favorite pizza when you pay, and they'll bring the first slices to your table before releasing it into the wild (a.k.a. the buffet). Unlimited slices = happiness. We ordered the Texan (a taco-style pizza on thin crust) and the Bronco (meat lovers unite!). Both arrived hot and crispy, just how we like them. Sure, there was a little fumble when the Texan tried to jump ship off the server's spatula and onto the table, but hey, no pizza left behind. We recovered. The buffet itself was pretty standard. The salad bar was running a little low on iceberg lettuce, so my "salad" turned into more of a garnish. I grabbed a breadstick to go with it. It was a little dry, but even a bad breadstick is still pretty good. I quickly moved on to the real star: the chicken. Crispy, hot, and seasoned just right. I grabbed a wing and couldn't resist a little mashed potatoes and gravy with a little corn. No regrets. The atmosphere? Exactly what you'd expect: chaotic charm. Kids running amok, oldies and Christian rock mingling overhead, and the hum of family chatter all around. It's loud, it's lively, it's very much Pizza Ranch. Staff were friendly and quick to clear plates, which is always appreciated. I wrapped up with another cold Coke Zero (bless this Coke Zero establishment!) and couldn't resist a dessert round: a slice of their chocolate chip cookie and a little swirl of vanilla soft serve. Because balance. All in all, it was a satisfying Sunday dinner with my husband and my dad. We'll definitely be back the next time the mood strikes for chicken and pizza at the same time, which, let's be honest, is more often than we care to admit.

But then again I don't eat fried chicken much. The associate couldn't find the phone in order and luckily the other associate was paying attention and told her where to find it. He was about to lose his cool and so was I. They had separated the legs from the thighs so that was nice. It smelled good in the car on the way home. They said it was good. And his dad liked the coleslaw. It was greasy so I had bought something else for dinner. While we were waiting I had looked at the buffet offerings and they looked good. Chicken or pizza, salad and dessert. Good choices. And again, price is good if you eat the buffet and can eat a lot. Private parking lot.
