This place is fine for the short term if you only need a space for a few months. However, everyone's reviews about the price gouging are spot on. They have raised the rental rate multiple times while I've owned the unit, and I just received a letter today that it's going up again. I just checked my bill history and my rent next month will be $100 more than what it was in March 2022, and that was almost $100 higher than what I paid when I first rented the unit. I will say that on the few occasions I've had to interact with staff, they have been helpful, friendly and courteous. The facility itself appears clean and I've never had any issues. My only concern aside from the rising costs is that the facility can be a bit creepy. My wife will not go in alone because there are so many blind alleys and corridors. There's little to no cell service inside so if anything happened she'd be on her own. read more

I cannot even give one star to this horrible business but im required to do so. Please people, do NOT do business with Prime Storage in Salem. They decieve you, go up on your monthly rate every other month. LOCK YOU OUT of your possessions if your one day late in payment. Charge you for extra keys on doors you never knew were part of your unit. When I moved my belongings out my $800.00 mattress of 5 yrs had to be thrown out from mice infestation along with several other pieces of furniture. STAY AWAY!! read more

Stay away. I rented a space for a little over a year and in that time I had to rent increases of over 35% in total for no additional value. The location and facilities are fine but I think it's reasonable to have some sort of expectation of rate stability. The first increase came only three months after I rented the unit. when I called to discuss this they were fully inflexible and it just felt like they were dealing in bad faith the entire experience felt grimy so I am taking my business elsewhere. For reference I have had multiple storage units at multiple locations including warehouses and I have never felt this gross leaving a place. Save yourself the trouble. read more

We were excited to have our things local, however, after being there for a year, they almost doubled our rent and there is nothing you can do. When they tell you that you get a free moving truck, nope! read more

Do not use this storage company consistent flooding in this place and they do not cover you. Service was not the best, the units smell musty and moldy .. Do not recommend please use another business. Lots of people out of alot of their personal belongings no compensation whatsoever. read more

Beware. They charged me for insurance, and when I showed them proof that I had my own, they refused to credit me for the unused premium, which is against state law. My upholstery was properly packed, and it had mold and mildew all over it from being stored at their Salem location. They take no responsibility for that kind of damage, nor does the insurance they charge you for - even though they promote on their website they are climate controlled to keep your items protected. Their "web rate" only applies to new customers to lure you in. Then they start raising your monthly rate every 3 months. By the time I left, my rate had been increased multiple times and was more than double the rate on their website for the same size unit. When I cleaned out my unit, there was rodent feces all over the floor and a rug I had stored was chewed through. If they reply to this review and say "call the office" it's for appearances only. I did. Multiple times. The last time I asked for the contact information of the district manager to discuss, and the location's GM hung up on me. read more

It's interesting how many reviews there are about the price. This was way more affordable than other storage units in the area. Looked cleaner too. Tiffany was awesome and helpful. read more

HORRIBLE place. When they took over, they almost doubled the unit rental. Now they are refusing to take responsibility for a water leak in the supposedly climate controlled unit which ruined my grandmother's antique piano. And the manager could care less, this must be an every day event for her. read more

Big thanks to Tiffany and Cyphus for a great experience both times I used this company was very attentive and helpful staff and better than other places I've used In the area also cheaper than other options! Thank you! read more

I am LIVID with this company. After my very reliable storage place closed for renovations I spent the time and money to relocate to Prime Storage. I was drawn in by the reasonable rates. Don't let that happen to you!!! After three months of on time and prepaid payments, they upped my rate to $100 more than what was advertised and stated it's in their contract that the ability to do so was at their discretion. After almost a year of on time and prepaid payments I had a hard month and asked for a waiver of a late fee. They told me to make the payment and they would try to have it waived. I wasn't called back and upon complaining I was told they won't waive that late fee. If not for an on time and prepaying customer then for who will they do that for??? I complained to a manager and three days later they INCREASED MY RATE AGAIN! I want to get my stuff out as soon as possible. I am now paying $80 more per month than what they are advertising to lure future suckers in. read more

I loved this place until price went up from $74 to $108 in one month after new owners took over a few months ago. (Price was for an 8 x 10 unit.) Previous owner was a private family, from what I know, and seemed to respect customers and employees. In four years there, the rent never increased, and when I went there to see if I wanted it as a storage facility, I met two very long time employees who were so friendly I could feel that they were respected as employees -- they treated customers same way in return. I had to wait two months to get the size unit I wanted because of that. I could have gone somewhere else because I don't even live close by -- 30 minutes away without traffic! But it was worth it. It's still clean and secure. But a 50% increase? I'll be looking for another place. Even if price is similar, now I have no reason to go so far from home. Wouldn't have been as bad if new owners announced a gradual increase, or provided a delayed increase or discount to current renters. But no respect from them means no respect from me. Not much we can do (never heard of a storage facility protest or boycott!), and though it doesn't affect me, I hope they didn't screw their employees the same way. I wish the owners would respond to this on Yelp. read more

We thought this facility was great before Prime took over. I was always against the idea of having a long term storage unit, but Shetland's price was reasonable so I rented one. Now that my unit is full to capacity the new owners doubled the rates! I wonder if some price fixing is going on because my research shows that I can't save money now by changing companies. I can't afford paying $75 each month just to keep some mementos and boxes of seasonal decorations. I might just have to throw things out or give them away. :( read more

The rude people and long wait times are frustrating. Shed leaked multiple times. Raised rent with no warning.

Came under new ownership in the summer of 2019. Overall I think this is a good facility. It's reasonably well-kept, and easy to get in and out of. Gleefully rented a 16x10 unit for about a year and a half. I left however when the price was increased by 50% (of the original price, that is), with only about a month's notice. Such an increase is not reasonable, and to be honest, it's my only complaint from renting here for that time. I've temporarily moved into a smaller space on the property, but I do not intend to stay, as I don't want to support a business that will hike prices to such a significant degree. read more

New ownership a couple months ago. Immediately raised rent 50%. Then went from 7 day access to only 5 - no access on weekends. While they were converting their online billing system, I found it unable to execute a transaction on their site. This went on for days and I was eventually penalized for a late payment. Yelp doesn't let you rate a business as zero stars - otherwise I would have. read more

Units are way over priced when compared to others I have checked. This used to be the best place to store a temporary move. I would be cautious about any long term or even short term rental. This place may fold and end before it's PRIME. This place had a ton of units in popular sizes available when compared to others having only a few. I wonder why? Could it be the constantly changing in prices? I have heard renters have been moving out by the dozens. read more

If I could I would give less than one star. Over the last several years I've rented 3 units from the old owners and was very happy (5 stars). Suddenly when the new ownership took over a few months ago it's been one nightmare after another. If you like exorbitant rate increases on short notice, management unwilling to work to resolve issues, lack of communication about changes to the contract, stressed out staff, forced insurance charges and other fees, then this is the place for you. If you want to be treated as a valued customer by a company that appreciates your business find another place, because this isn't the one for you. read more

When this unit came under new ownership this summer my rate more than doubled without notice. My autopay discount was also discontinued. When calling to complain about the rate increase I found that their customer service was incredibly rude, condescending and unsympathetic. The new rate is take it or leave it offer and not negotiable. I was informed my autopay discount was canceled, only after noticing it was no longer on the invoice and calling them, because it was an agreement between me and the previous owners and no longer applicable with the new owners. It's a great facility and been there for years. But beware of the new owners. Their customer service alone is a reason to avoid this place at all costs. read more

When Prime took over they jacked the prices almost by double. They add fees - not worth it. If you need storage don't bother here.

I have had at least one storage unit if not more at this location for over 30 years. Yes I know crazy! But in the last year or so the rates have doubled and are now becoming usurious. I am going to start to look for someplace cheaper. read more

Before Prime purchased Shetland Park in Salem the facility was beautifully run, a joy to do business with. My storage bill was about $5000 a year but I was 100 percent happy. Then came Prime, with huge increases in costs, insufferable added fees and a rude and incompetent staff. I'm moving on to another facility now in spite of the considerable costs attendant on moving. I've never experienced any company I'd less rather give ten cents to rather than Prime. The prospect of further dealing with them makes my skin crawl. Every other tenant I speak with agrees as well. Extraordinary unanimity in our dislike for Prime Storage. read more

What an expensive waste of time this turned out to be. We were told to leave our move out notice on voicemail and that would be sufficient. Gave closer to 4 weeks notice rather than the required 3 and was charged a $35 termination fee for not giving ample notice. 3 days later I was then charged for the next months rental. When I called I was told that there was a misunderstanding and they never received our notice, yet they had no trouble charging me a termination fee. I was told I'd receive a call back by end of day. Never received a call, had unanswered calls and emails and finally found out we had been refunded the month by looking at online banking. No courtesy of the resolution, apology, NOTHING! And they kept the $35 fee which is fine at this point just to be done with them. I would not recommend this storage facility to anyone. Ive been told it's under recent new ownership, they should probably re-educate their staff in customer service skills! read more

I signed up online for the "best price" for a storage unit with Prime Storage Group. It began as $43 a month with the first month free. But then there's a $25 administration fee that you find out about while filling out the forms. Then the first month you call to make your payment, there's another $13 tacked onto it for insurance that you're told is mandatory. THEN you THINK you have set up your account and they will bill you each month and you get a text to call them to pay. When you do, you find out that your $43 a month storage unit is now $76 because you have a late fee!? This company is awful and the employees seem robotic like this is a regular thing they deal with and they're just over it. Pay more and go some place else because this company is going to con you into paying what you would be paying somewhere more reputable anyway. Really wish I would've checked Yelp after seeing the other reviews BEFORE signing up with this company because I would have ran the other way! Lesson learned. read more

Never use this storage!!! Run Away!!! I had been a tenant for 10 years and the staff was great and it was a fair price for that time. Then new owners took over and they immediately almost doubled the rent, but that wasn't the worst of it. Then they added on $22. a month for insurance, whether you wanted it or not. But that wasn't the worst. Corona pandemic hit and I was out of work and had no income. Every company that I dealt with was agreeable to deferring payment except Prime Storage. When I didn't pay the $22. insurance they put on overlock locks so I couln't access my units and when I called them to ask about deferments they were rude and completely unsympathetic! I was told repeatedly that it was "company policy" and if I didn't pay the $22. I would be evicted. I reminded them that I had been a tenant for 12 years and never missed a payment before they didn't care. When I reminded them that a huge part of the population lost all income without warning they could care less. When I reminded them that Comcast, the banks, landlords and public utilities are all offering deferments because of the pandemic they were rude and demeaning. I am in the process of moving out and have found new space at about half the price and will be happily rid of these folks. If I could give them less than one star I would. Run Away!!! read more

Shetland Park Storage used to be the best place to store stuff, but since being taken over by Prime Storage, it's been horrible. Yes, they went up 50% on their prices (from $120 to $180 for the unit we have), but their inability to handle the smallest of issues definitely trumps the price increase. It is IMPOSSIBLE to get an actual person at the facility when you call, so your call gets routed to God knows where and you're talking to voicemail. We left 2 messages, neither of which got a call back. On the third call, I finally got a person (not in Salem, but a human). I specifically told him that we had vacated ONE of our two units and needed "#1234" closed. He responded with, "So you want to close both units?" I said, "No, just "#1234". Today, my husband gets an email, not a call, to tell him that there are still locks on "#5678" (the one we're keeping). Of course, they are trying to close the wrong one. He responded to the email 3 times asking for a call so there would be no misunderstandings, but she never called, so now my husband is on his way down to the storage unit because we're afraid they're going to cut the locks off the one we need to keep. Honestly, we're hooked in, but if you don't need to use this place, don't. read more

This facility recently changed hands. The new owners are atrocious. When the facility changed hands, my autopay was deleted, resulting in the assessment of usurious late fees. Despite assurances that the autopay was in place, the same thing occurred the following month. Efforts to contact a representative are fruitless as nobody ever answers the phone. Regarding my complaint about the assessed late fees, I was instructed to email corporate, which I did and to which no response was received. The manager at the Salem facility, "Ms Jenkins" deserves special recognition for being particularly surly. Not only did she threaten me with additional fees, presumably in an effort to hold my storage contents hostage, she also made disparaging remarks, including calling me a loser for not paying my rent on time. Efforts to explain that the rent was withheld pending resolution of the late fee issue were futile. I will be vacating my unit at the end of the month. That is, if I am permitted to retrieve my property! Do yourself a favor and find someplace else to store your stuff. read more
