I rented one of their smallest units, a stackable closet. The wifi gate is quirky, sometimes it works, sometimes not. Because of this, I go there during weekday hours. They don't have an auto controlled door, and keeping the door open to move things in and out can be a hassle. It's a heavy door you can't prop open. "Watch out!" they raised my rent twice in one year - with little warning, a post card in the mail, no email. That fee that looked reasonable will double. They count on not losing you because you are there. But they have lost me - I will be moving out next month. Poor customer communication. read more

Customer Service - I've been a customer for this location for going on 6 years and have been a customer off and on for 20 years. I had to pack some business materials up to return to my company and needed to purchase some packing tape and boxes. I asked if I can use the packing tape to wrap up my materials in my unit to figure out how many boxes I needed and then return to pay for the tape and whatever boxes I needed to ship. At which point the male manager stated no you have to buy the tape now and come back and purchase your boxes separately. I told him I wanted to put it all on one invoice in order to make it just easier for my reporting. Nope would not have it. I was not leaving the building, told him my unit and asked if he was serious? He was. He tried to compare extra space storage to Home Depot. Just a small thing to help a loyal customer out and he wouldn't do it. I'm pretty sure Home Depot has better customer service than this. read more

It all starts out well until they raise your fee by 50% in a few months. Not kidding, it's 150% higher now after just a few months. Pay close attention to the in store rate, that is what you will pay when the promotional web only deal wears off in a few months. Thing is, there is nothing to say when that is so it may be a few months - the web site says nothing about it being a promo rate so it's truly a bait and switch. read more

Not sure why people are so salty on here. I had an amazing experience at this extra storage. I was put in kind of a bind when I signed a lease at a new apartment in the middle of the month and needed somewhere to store my belongings for two weeks. I've never used storage before, yet always see this right off the highway and was initially interested in just the location alone. I called extra storage to inquire about any specials or deals they may have had available seeing as I really only needed the unit for two weeks. Everyone I spoke with was professional and straight forward. I lucked out and received some sort of deal where I got my month for free and only had to pay for insurance and taxes of the unit. UMMM ayyy yay. Yes, at first I thought there was a catch where I would have to be locked in to some sort of contract but no. Before they give you the unit they go through the terms and conditions with you right there before you even sign anything. So from the negative reviews, I am a little confused since everything is written out literally in black and white. They also give you a portal where you can log in and see this information / move out etc. I would highly recommend! Easy location, CLEAN, well lit, and open till 10pm to come in and out! Please avoid this business entirely. Once my initial contract ran out they jacked up the price considerably. Since all your stuff is there, you don't want to have to move it all again. So they've got you. And for some reason, throughout Covid, they claim that their restroom must remain closed for safety considerations. When going there to get or leave stuff, it's often a long drive. And having no restroom is a major inconvenience. I once drove at least a half hour with my daughter to find a restroom at a supermarket. So why does Covid force a business to close its restroom? Never made any sense. I'm sure that with the inflated price I pay for a small storage unit they can afford some cleaning agents. read more

Every year they give themselves a 3-5% increase in rent. Its not justifiable. Inflation is inly about 1.5%. Once your stuff is in there, what a hassle to move it out - and they know it. It's nice and clean and feels safe, but they are deceptive Update following managers response: Thank you for reinforcing my point! You suggest that you raise the price simply because you can (following survey of competitors offerings) not because there is a justifiable reason behind it (e.g. new costs). Again, once my belongings are there - it's a hassle to move them. It's a high probability gamble on your part and you usually win. read more

This is the second time I have chosen Extra Space Danvers for my storage needs. The facility is clean and well-lit, and the customer service is great. Debra was especially helpful in assisting me with the return of a second padlock I didn't need, even though I was unable to come to the office during business hours. Highly recommended. read more

My experience with this facility was so bad I had move my stuff out in the middle of the month. I can't even think of anything positive about this place. The first problem right off the bat is their one month promotion is very deceiving. Sure, the first month might be free, and that's IF you are looking for a unit that qualifies, but you still have to pay hefty administrative fees up front. Also, the price I was quoted on the phone was NOT the price I ended up paying at the facility. The phone reps don't tell you that they make you pay more money for their insurance unless you bring in proof you have your own. There is no getting out of this. The process of renting a unit here takes a good hour or more so make sure you set aside enough time. They make you take a tour of the facility and give you a lot of useless information. I've rented apartments that took less time and paperwork to deal with. Oops, in paperwork I should say imputing all your info on a computer. Worst, you'll enter all your info into the computer and then it crashes and boots you back out and you have to start all over. It's time-consuming as it is. Totally frustrating. When I finally got done with all the administrative crap I had to leave and pick up my belongings I was going to store. By the time I got back the facility was closed. I inputed my code at the gate and everything was fine but my code would not work at the actual building so I couldn't get in. I tried several times to no avail. I ended up calling the main Extra Space Storage number and after several attempts and getting the run around I found someone that gave me a temporary code to get in. The next day a person from Extra Space called me and pretty much blamed me for the code not working. He claimed it was working fine. Several weeks later I attempted to access my unit again after hours and was denied. I used the temporary code again to get in. Today I went back to the facility and my code didn't work and they had put a lock on my unit. There was some miscommunication about my billing date but I was surprised they locked me out so quickly. When I went to the office to pay my bill they said they also wanted several late fees. The late fees were outrageous and again I was stunned because even my landlord doesn't charge me a late fee for being a few days late. I asked the office if they could waive one of the fees given all the problems I've had and he refused. At that point I decided to terminate my business relationship with them. I still had to pay for a full month even though I was a few days into the new month but I just wanted to be done. As I'm trying to move my boxes out to my car the entire entrance was not only blocked by a maintenance truck but the walkway was covered in snow and ice even though the storm had ended 2 days prior. I had a lot of trouble getting to and from my car. It wasn't safe at all. I tried calling extra space to complain but again I just got the run around and nobody has called me back or even acted like they took me seriously. I have used self-storage for years and never had such a bad overall experience. The only positive thing I can say is the unit itself was clean. Other than that I cannot recommend this facility or any extra space storage facility for that matter. If you do rent a space from here make sure to bring a copy of your insurance, your own lock, and a lot of your personal time. Their locks are very expensive but look very cheap as with all the other items they try to sell you. The staff here screamed at me when I tried to resolve the issues. Very unprofessional. read more

Easy to sign up, very clean and well-lit space, friendly management. Parking is limited but has not been a problem for me yet. Having to use a code to get in and out of the gates as well as in the door after hours is a little cumbersome but on the other hand it seems secure. read more

I had units at the Danvers facility for about 7 years. I needed to contract a larger unit this weekend. As always, Debra was super helpful in finding a new unit and terminating the contract on my smaller unit. Debra is always helpful and pleasant to deal with. She is an asset to the company. read more

THIS PLACE IS A SCAM!! Read your lease very carefully. There is a line in there that essentially gives them the right to raise your rent whenever they feel like it. When I called to complain about I was told that is was standard for everyone that the rent goes up after 3 months and then again after 9 months. I went from paying $60 a month to $100 in a little over a year. While the facility is nice and clean the money is not worth it. I am so happy to be finally taking my things out of there. Unfortunately I referred many people there before knowing this and feel horribly for them, as they have also complained about the unexpected rent increase. Use UHaul down the street. I had used them before and they never raised the rent in the time I was there. The only reason I used Extra Space was because UHaul had no availability for the size i was looking for. It was just so easy and CLEAN. I was very impressed with the storage facility and the professionalism of the staff, specifically, Brian at the Danvers location. Extra Space Storage is seemingly the luxury, 'high-end', of all the storages I have seen. I'm not sure that I would deviate from Extra Space Storage to another in the future. read more

I looked all over from Boston to NH and Extra Storage had the best rates, and the top reviews. They weren't lying! This place is clean, the manager on site is super helpful, and it is very secure. There's good and bad with everything. #1 I wish I had a piece of property & the money to build one of these places because they must be cash cows. It seems in recent years the price to rent storage units has gone ski high. Extra Space storage is a perfect example of that. I pay over $90.00 per month for a unit that's just 5 feet wide & 10 feet deep. (its not as big as it sounds) The fee also goes up at least once a year & its for several dollars at a time. The result, I am now selling everything I have in there on Craig's lists. The good with Extra Place Storage is this place is spotless. Very well kept. Climate controlled & very modern. Very friendly service, plenty of loading doors & larger loading docks. Very secure & decent parking. Right off of Rt. 1. You will never have trouble finding a cart, but they don't have 2 wheelers. Careful though, they close for lunch at strange times. If they do & you don't know your gate code to get out your locked in until they come back from lunch or someone else comes around, (don't ask). I guess for the money their a safe bet. Be careful though, any of these places can get expensive. You might find out you spend more to keep your stuff than your stuff was worth. read more
