My friend and I stopped by around 4:30p on a Friday. My friend is a frequent shopper so she recommended we take a look. I had a wonderful time looking at all of the cute clothes and vintage treasures. My friend and I had a 45-minute conversation with a store employee named Natasha, who was busy steaming a customer's prom dress in the back of the store. We shared some cool stories and talked about fashion. It was a pleasant surprise! I also liked hanging out with the cat and dog named Lucy. It felt very homey and welcoming into the store. I loved the French music playing in the background. The atmosphere transported me to somewhere far away! When I have some more money, I hope to buy a summer dress there. read more

Love the owner (hi Anna Banana!), love the decor, love the clothing and accessories you forgot even existed, but are fashion must-haves: cameo brooches, garter belts, flapper-style head accessories, 1960s bloomers, My Little Pony hair clips, ornate hosiery. The store is meticulously and beautifully curated--the clothing is in top-notch condition with every piece being a rare gem in a city that has a lot of vintage finds to offer. Go to Pretty Parlor if you want a really special article of clothing either for everyday outfitting or an off-the-beaten path wedding dress. (I was there when a beautiful bride-to-be was trying on dresses for her wedding). OMG. How have I lived in Seattle for ten years and not discovered this place? Best. Store. Ever. I went looking for a 1920s dress as a Valentine's Day gift for my wife, and didn't really think anywhere in Seattle would have anything that really worked. Wow, wrong. They had some stunning dresses, and I walked out with the best. Anna and Inga made shopping great fun and were super-helpful, and overall the selection of clothing there was wonderful. this place is literally fatphobic. i always admired the styles from the window but when i went in and tried some dresses on i was shocked at how exclusionary this store decided to be. i am 5'8" 150lbs. i'm usually a medium in juniors sizing. i couldn't fit my boobs into a size L dress and i couldn't get a size L jump suit over my shoulder once the pants were on it was so short. to make matters worse, a store employee made me feel kinda shitty about my size with her comments. they had a tiny curvy section, but that means little when someone who is usually a medium is struggling to find options in their plus line. I wouldnt recommend this to anyone, even if Pretty Parlor has decided your body is worthy of their overpriced clothing. women should not support businesses that discriminate against plus size people. fuck this place read more

Funny that Del Rae M. said she found Anna Banana's stuff old (pit stained, pilly and worn). I think that's a gross exaggeration. AnnaBanana runs a professional shop. I also wouldn't call the stock "hodgpodge." I admit there's generally a good number of things that are either too trendy or too over the top for my taste, but I've got friends who've paired some of those items in a way I'm envious of. I also love the challenge of finding something I can make my own. Last summer it was this black cotton lace dress from the 60s or 70s that looked like a A-line doily. I ended up wearing it to two weddings, an art opening and a dinner party and each time I did random women came up to me to comment on it. I don't always find big things. Last time I left with a handmade felt flower mounted on a clip and damn if that thing didn't find itself clipped to a lapel, purse strap or hat at least once a week all winter long! I've found enough one-of-a-kind treasures along the lines of what Annie J. described that I each time I walk through the door of the Pretty Parlor I'm excited with anticipation over what new gem I'll discover this time. All that aside - I'm all for supporting indie boutiques. Let's keep Old Navy off Capitol Hill (and look unique in the process) by supporting shops like Pretty Parlor. read more

This shop is a dream-come-true for vintage clothing lovers. It has a unique mix of vintage pieces and original items by local artists and designers, and I think the prices are great. They have everyday "casual" wear, plus a party section and a new bridal shop. And I can always find something for my man in "Man Land", be it a new jacket, sports coat, shirt or rhinestone embellished tie. I love the accessories there, from the rings to the glittery necklaces and bracelets. Once, I bought a pantsuit there and it didn't fit right, so the altered it for me and made the waistband with a little elastic so it fits me any time of the month (wink!). The owner always makes me feel welcome and I run into the coolest people there! Every time I stop by, there's some colorful character or local weirdo (in the nicest way) hanging out, shopping or shooting the breeze. I love going there and will continue to shop there when ever I have the need for one more fabulous outfit. read more

If you want pretty, original, and fun clothing you should visit this store. The first thing I noticed was the beautiful cat sunning herself on a chair by the door. It reminded me of those girly bedrooms you see in home decorating magazines. There was also a sweet, shy dog that walked around the store but kept out of shopper's way. I stopped by to try and find a unique wedding dress. I had to pull myself away from the racks of great clothing and the case of funky jewelry more than once. I found a couple of dresses that I thought looked nice and could pass as wedding dresses, including one that looked like it was made in the 1940s. Then...my friend walked into their bridal salon. It's normally closed on Sundays but my friend pleaded to let us look--my wedding was less than a month away. Anna and Natasha were kind enough to let us browse and try on dresses. I chose the first dress I saw. It was a perfect cream colored, tea-length dress with off-the-shoulder straps and gorgeous beadwork on the waist and the top/ends of the straps. Anna suggested adding crinoline under the skirt and pow! I had a stellar wedding dress. They didn't have the right color of crinoline in stock so they ordered it for me to pick up later in the week. Pretty Parlor has a small but nice selection of shoes so I was able to try the dress on with a pair of classic satin pumps and see what it would look like on my wedding day. I'll be back sometime post-wedding to spend more time checking out their dresses and jewelry. This shop is definitely on my 'recommend to friends' list. read more

After my coffee break at Starbucks (which is right across the street from Pretty Parlor), I visited the pink store and immediately was amazed at what they have over there. They have all kinds of vintage clothings from different styles. They also have some local designers clothings there too, all vintage!... One of my favorite shops in Seattle! This is a girly-girl's dream. The whole place feels so posh and frilly and sparkly. They have actual vintage, and great vintage reproduction. If you come out of the fitting room in a dress you are trying on, they will outfit you in fun accessories and let you twirl around to your heart's content. There is also an adorable shop dog. A terrific store! Wonderful selection of high quality vintage clothing, jewelry, shoes, with some newer items tossed into the mix. Very organized and clean, which is not always a given in a vintage store. We had excellent customer service; helpful, but not obtrusive or pushy. Prices are definitely on the higher end of the scale, but this is one case of "you get what you pay for." If you are looking for something special, this is the place. While I was not in the market for bridal, or burlesque-type items, I noticed that they had that type of inventory as well. Shop here, friends! And for an added bonus, you can walk across the street to the fanciest Goodwill I've ever been in, and pick up some more great stuff. read more

As a business owner myself, I've never met ruder staff in my life. It's a consignment store. We went in there to look at vintage clothing. The older woman with an obnoxious hat was a condescending bitch from hell. Tried to clean that up, but it just wasn't possible. The most redeeming thing there was the cat. What I can only assume was the owner talked down to us and made us feel less than. She was beyond mean. Don't try to respond with your "woe is me" note about how this is an isolated incident. I normally wouldn't step into a place called Pretty Parlor, not being much of a frou-frou type of gal, but it was so goshdarned cute I did anyway and was happy I had that momentary weakness. There's enough vintage and shabby chic among the frills to keep it from being overdone, as well as men's clothing. Plenty of independent designers and a couple of sleek Asian style dresses I fell in love with as well as jewelry, hats and other accessories. Then there's the cat. I love any shop with a cat and this cat loves shoppers. I also like that there's no high pressure sales going on. That may be because all sales are final, but they will hold something for you for a day while you make up your mind. Another nice touch. I love the name, I love the decor, I love the Pretty. But I could not muster up any love for this store. I've done a lot of thrift store shopping in my day and the "vintage" stuff in here is no different than what I've found at the thrift stores (Protip- Shop in older towns, Everett and White Center are good!) Anyhow back to Pretty Parlor. Basically they have picked through the thrift stores for you, jacked the prices up about 90% and displayed them in a cute store. If you are lazy, lack time, or have no imagination or creativity to do your own searching then this store is for you. I've only been in here once when I was on the hunt for a vintage dress to go to my work's 10 year anniversary party (which was vintage hollywood themed). I hadn't had any luck searching the 2nd hand stores or Red Light but I came in here and not only found 1 but 2 perfect dresses that not only were in great condition but also fit! The sales woman was very helpful in bringin things to and from the dressing room, looking for the styles I had in mind and helping me zip up and decided if what I had on was a good fit for me. I thought the prices were fairly reasonable for the quality and selection that they had. A bit pricey but worth it to me. read more

High-quality pieces from the 1920s to 1980s. However, the prices meet and exceed what I think they should be worth at this time in 2009 (2010 soon...). It's really fun and girly to wander around, but I'd never buy a piece here; most of the clothing seem to be on the small to extra-extra small range. (Really, were there no sizes above 6s in the 50s and 60s?) Wasn't that body type all the rage, with Marilyn and Racquel? Anyway, it's certainly cute, just not my style (or size). This is an adorable little shop. Yay for local designers and vintage. There was a nice little selection of jewelry and some cute little belts. When I browsed the vintage clothing rack I found lots of cute things, but I was very surprised by the prices and that nobody has mentioned them in the reviews before. I saw quite a few things that were comparable to things I could find at the local Goodwill but at around 4x the cost. I'm sure I could find some great unique pieces in this store but none that I'm willing to pay so much for... I guess I'm just cheap. Love Pretty Parlor! I bought my Kimmi wedding dress from them. It was the first dress I tried on and I waited about a month until I bought it so I could try other options. The staff was beyond sweet, caring, and excited when I revealed the beautiful gown. The owner (miss banana) is not a "pushy" salesperson, but can so accurately read a persons style that she suggests things you never would have tried on out of your own volition. An example: I have been VIOLENTLY anti-sequins for YEARS! not on others, but on myself. i came in looking for something silver for new years. I BOUGHT 2 SEQUIN ITEMS! i wore neither of them on new years, but one top is absolutely me, and i would have never grabbed it if she hadn't recommended it. MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL OF THIS REVIEW!!!!!!!! I'm a performer, the other piece (and 1 more purchased at a later date), has become staples in my wardrobe for a number i do, SHE HELPED ME AS AN ARTIST, and that performance would not have been as awesome if it wasn't for her help. The pieces are always sooooo well maintained, and the atmosphere is like cheers with no booze! Pretty Parlor will always hold a special place in my heart..........
