First and last time at Pretty Nails Salon in Branford, I went with 7 of my family members to have a quick "Girls Day". I asked for the woman to file my nails not cut and she immediately cut. She must have cut the skin on my big toe because it has been a week, and the toe is still sore. My Gel manicure looks horrible and almost every nail has chipped. My niece only had a manicure, and she was done in 7 minutes!! another family member asked for blue on the tip of her white nail polish, and they said no they couldn't do that. ?? I normally do not post reviews and had been going to the salon off and on the last couple years because it was local and decently priced. I went in yesterday for a manicure and acrylic dip manicure. During the manicure my technician filed my right thumb so hard it started to bleed. After mentioning twice that I was bleeding, the technician continued to ignore me and proceed with the service. After a third mention, he merely handed me a paper towel. He continued to finish my nails, not one sanitizing his equipment and continued to use shared chemicals to finish my manicure at the end of the service when I was asked why I was not tipping. I showed one of the other technicians my still bleeding thumb and merely met with a simple apology and being handed an alcohol wipe at the end of the service I do not recommend and question how sanitary their practices are, there are better salons in the area who I'm sure have more in tune customer service practices. read more

This salon was large and empty on a Saturday afternoon--for a reason. My friend and I got manicures and pedicures two days ago. I got the gel paint option. My cuticles are still burning from the nail job, and the nail beds on four fingers feel sore. I repeatedly told the man doing my nails NOT to cut my cuticles because they were already sensitive, but the minute I would look away, he would be snipping away again. The UV light curer was off. It was either a broken machine or cranked up too far. My nails and areas around nails started burning with pain every time I was told to put the hand in for curing. It was more hot than any other UV machine I have used in the past for drying/ curing. This has never happened at other salons. The shaping and painting was fine, and though my nails look good so far, it has been 2 days and I am still icing my fingers and toes...rough and unsafe by my standards. read more

hello. I hate to leave a bad review but at times like these I must. my number one interest is to support local, small businesses:) but, sadly I will no longer be supporting Pretty Nail and Spa. It will be eight weeks on Thursday and my gel nail polish is not coming off. My nails are now destroyed. that's not something you can fix. I also would like to note, that when my friend and I arrived with a reservation they did not have us down, thankfully they took us. I just got back from this salon. I wanted a pink and white but I guess I'm behind the times lol- the lady (who turned out to be the owner "Diana") suggested this uv gel permanent French and told me up front the cost ($65) which I appreciated. I didn't have to wait- she got right to work. She wasn't that talkative which may have enhanced my experience but another patron wished her to "feel better" so I'm assuming that was why.-no problem. The place is very clean and well staffed. The prices seemed reasonable. I liked the way my nails came out and I wasn't in there for a long time. Um- I feel like this is a pretty boring review but I'm not super enthused. In comparison- I tried what I like to call a "novelty" nail salon who gave grear customer service, conversation, and wine but I was VERY unhappy with the final product. I guess my point is- I'd sacrifice the bells and whistles for a solid job on my nails done at a decent price and not take up my whole day. I'm going to add another star if the tips last longer than 2 weeks and I'll go get a pedi and check out that service. *****update**** 3 weeks later and my nails are still on- go figure. I went in to get a set of acrylic and the lady who did it (I think her name is Shelly?) was unpleasant. When picking a color she asked why I wouldn't get the gel. Personally I can't afford gel and I wanted normal polish because I can change the color later on if I get bored with it. Repeatedly she said how "well if you got the gel...." to explain why she couldn't paint my nails very well. Also, whenever the color smudged or went onto my skin she would blame me and say that I was touching her hands and messing it up. The acrylic nail itself is fine, but when it came to painting my nails I was irritated with how everything wrong was my fault and I should've bought gel in her favor. Overall, just really displeased with my visit here. My nails would've looked a lot prettier if the painting was not rushed, even with just regular nail polish. read more

I love this nail salon! I tend to be very picky because hitting a good nail salon these days can be like finding a needle in a hay stack. Everything is clean and the workers are very nice. Went here for an impromptu pedi while getting a haircut in the area. I paid $47 for a pomegranate pedi. The man was very strong & rough while working on my feet & legs. He cut my cuticle on one toe and quickly stuck it back in the water. Did not use an antiseptic to clean it! Then I told him I did not want the callous remover treatment but he did not understand English. He cut the back of my heel, and again just stuck it back into the water using no antiseptic to clean the wound! While the massage was nice & not rushed, it was much too hard and I had to keep telling him to do it easier because it was physically hurting. I don't know why they have men do Mani and Pedis, the truth is they're just too strong for me & always they either cut me or the experience is too painful to be enjoyable. The color job was ok, I noticed some imperfections. I don't think he was trained properly because he didn't know how to attend first aid to the cuts he made properly. He also never changed his gloves once I started bleeding. He was dipping his gloved hand into product jars, putting it onto my legs and feet and then putting his same gloved hands back into the same product jars. Although the nail files were in sealed bags and appeared to be brand new, his nail cutting instruments did not seem to come out of an autoclave or a sterilized bag. I'm praying I don't get an infection. I cannot return to the salon because of their unhygienic practices. The place is very large and looks clean at first sight but then I noticed most of their chairs has the leather peeling off and things don't appear as clean close up once you get inside. Went to get my nails done with dip powder and, I showed them a picture from Pinterest of how I wanted them to look, it was a beige to white ombré, with glitter and she gave me hot pink to white. The nails were very very lumpy and not smooth what so ever. They were not what I wanted at all. They should've told me that they couldn't do that color that I wanted. The lady that did my nails did not smooth the surface of the nail, so it was very bumpy and they looked awful. I was arguing back and fourth with them saying that they looked terrible and not what I wanted at all and I wanted them off. One lady was trying to get me to keep them on but I said no finally. She wasn't listening to me. After 10 minutes of saying I wanted them removed and that I wasn't paying for these awful nails, I showed her the picture again saying they look nothing like it. Finally she got me a bowl with the remover in it, and I was sitting there for 45 minutes and no one even came to check on them. Finally the lady came and wiped of my nails for 10 seconds. She did not treat my hands or nails with any care. There was also residue left on my hand that she didn't get off. I said "are you going to drill off the rest of it off of my nails??" And she stood there and didn't say a word. My nail that she cut is hurting now. DONT COME HERE THEY ARE TERRIBLE AT NAILS AND THE SERVICE IS BAD. NEVER COMING TO THIS PLACE AGAIN. Although it's annoying when they start moving everything to clean while customers are still having services. Out of all the places I've ever gone to get my nails done, I've never heard a pricing strategy quite like this place: Gel fill=$45 Gel fill w/ regular polish=$45 Gel fill w/gel polish=$45 Gel French manicure fill=$45 ......... it's usually cheapest with regular polish, about $10 more for gel polish and THEN about extra $5 for French- am I right?? I dunno, seems like they were hell bent on getting that $45 no matter what lol BUT, the nail tech I had did do a decent job- but it was just way over priced..... and if you want gems, you can only choose between silver and pink..... and also outta a small pile of gaudy looking flowers..... TONS of choices j/k In my opinion, if you are willing to pay a bit more than other places in the area, and you want something basic, this is a good place. But if you want good prices with more elaborate choices for designs- go somewhere else. **and even though they have a sign up that says for you to "enjoy your free back massage with nail service"- they say they don't. They have a large staff and offer a lot of different services, in addition to manicures and pedicures. Awful customer service. Decided to treat myself and get my nails done. Full set gel. Spent $65 plus tax. Gave a $10 tip on top of it. 2 days later 3 nails had broke in half. I went back wanting them removed and just get a regular gel instead since obviously the gel tips weren't working. Mind you the most stress I had put on my nails in those 2 days was fold clothes. Something clearly was wrong with that... the owner refused to take off and just do a plain gel manicure. Kept repeating we fix only. Didn't make any sense. And i certainly wasnt going to pay again... Y not make the customer happy after spending her time and money. Had she agreed to take nails off and do regular gel I would have actually recommended the place. Probably the worst pedicure experience I have had thus far. The man who did my pedicure rushed, did not shape my nails (they are uneven and jagged post pedicure), put just one very light coat of color that looked terrible (I had to ask for a second coat), and hurt me very much during both the filing and clipping of my nails. It was painful, not relaxing at all like a pedicure should be. He did the bare minimum he could have done for a pedicure, it was just awful. And he was extremely rough, some of my nails are still sore. And not only do my toes look jagged, also it's only the next day after my pedicure and the toe polish is already chipping. Ive been relaxing all day, not rough on my feet at all to cause the chipping. Went for a gel manicure, the woman spoke no English and yelled to her co workers the entire time in her language. She used cuticles scissors that made my cuticles bleed then sprayed stuff on them where I winced in pain. I felt she rushed through the manicure and the entire thing start to finish was done in 20 minutes. My polish on examination at home was uneven an has tiny holes in it. She had the entire place staring at her. We had multiple staff members come up to us and say it OK, you're all set, but this horrible manager wouldn't except that. She put up such a fight. We said multiple times that her staff said "all set" but she didn't care. I've been going here for about two years. I don't get my nails done often but when I do, I'm always satisfied. Two weeks ago I did get my nails done by one of the men there (Leo) he didn't paint all the way to my cuticles and put about 6 coats of gel on. I also bite the skin around my fingernails (anxiety) and he didn't clean up the skin. First time I was ever disappointed.. everyone has a bad day I guess. But I'll stick to the women there from now on. Yesterday I got my nails done by Lily. She was THE BEST! She did take a little long but that's because she was perfection: cleaned up my fingers before doing my nails and my gel polish was PERFECT. I love how they give massages there too! So relaxing . Yes the place was clean, i've been here before for a quick manicure once in a while and the manicures are just "ok". However, I just had the worst pedicure ever. I took my daughters for their first pedicures and they spend 10 minutes on each of our pedicures. There was no foot soaking, barely any scrubbing an no leg / foot massaging. And the place was empty so they weren't busy that they couldn't spend more time on us. They were also very rude. I was expecting to be charged children's price but that was not the case and it was $20 for each of us for basically a quick rinse, lotion and polish. The polish was sloppy. Then to top it off, the man who came over to massage my shoulders smelled strongly of cigarette smoke and was coughing on me! I will never go there again! I've been to this salon three times. The first time I had a full gel set done, I was happy. The young man was very careful about detail and I appreciate that. I am a nail tech. For many years had a salon and trained many people in the trade. I ended going back for a fill and had the same man. He did a fantastic job but it was clear he wasn't happy there at all. I went back to find out this gentleman had left but they were not going to tell me where he went( of course not) so I settled for a women on the recommendation of the salon manager that supposedly was his trainer. First this tech and her manger needs to go to customer service training school, needs to learn to listen to her clients. I asked her to take my nails down a very little and she proceeded to use the Dremel drill, shewent to far! She had to repair her mistakes,and in the end it cost me $50 bucks, nails uneven and too short and lumpy not to mention her attitude was unprofessional in the least. PLEASE READ BEFORE CONSIDERING GOING TO THIS SALON. I never usually write reviews for places like this but recently I got my nails done here and I was very disappointed. I was not even able to call and schedule an appointment due to their phone not working. So I walked in to make an appointment and I must admit the place is very nice looking inside, it looked overall like a great salon but dont let that fool you. The front desk lady was very rude. Another customer had come in aswell after I did to tell them their phone was not working and I said the same thing. Well anyways this lady had the nerve to tell us that "our phones must be not working because theirs was fine." So rude. So later in the day I went back for my scheduled appointment and the place wasnt packed at all, it was actually dead inside. Anyways here's why I'll never be coming back to this salon again: 1.) My nails were filed down completely untill they were see through and paper thin. Im not sure why she had to file them so much, I've been to many other salons to get acrylics and never have I had this happen before... my nails are litteraly to this day still ruined and paper thin so they break so easily now and are even soar to the touch! 2.) The lady doing my nails was clearly rushing. She didn't even bother to say a word to me except to ask me to pay halfway through the process. 3.) This lady cut my cuticles and fingers four times in four different places! My fingers were bleeding because she kept cutting my cuticles with an electric nail filer. She didn't even bother to say sorry and completely ignored it even though there were clearly cuts bleeding right in front her that she caused. 4.) The nail polishes I picked out were so old that they didn't even work and because of that, all I kept getting told was to spend an extra 20$ on their gel polish, ( would've been almost 80 dollars) and not only from the lady doing my nails but 3 other workers kept telling me to buy it aswell which is not only annoying but ridiculous. When a customer says they don't want something you shouldn't just go on and on trying to get them to still buy something! 5.) The hand massage and towel were very fast and rushed, she didnt even bother to do anything with my cuticles and none of my hangnails were cut off. It looked very unprofessional and messy. Honestly I could've done a better job myself. 6.) The actual acrylic nails were so uneven, crooked, thick, bulky, and unatural looking. Without a doubt not worth my 60 dollars for a 30 minute if even appointment. 7.)My nails looked terrible and lasted about a week before popping off! I do not recommend this place at all.
