Visited May 2025 We celebrated my birthday at Preston's with the family, and as always, it was flawless. The atmosphere, the food, the wine...it just felt special. We shared a bottle of Austin Hope Cab (one of my faves), kicked things off with their amazing French onion soup which was cheesy, rich, and always piping hot and then I had my usual... the Delmonico, cooked medium rare with a gorgeous char and chimichurri on the side. And yes, we finished strong with that heavenly butter cake and vanilla ice cream. And then... five days later, I found out they closed. Completely heartbroken. This was our go-to spot and has been for the last five years since we moved to this side of town. We knew the staff, we knew the menu, we knew the seats we loved best...1 and 2 at the bar thank you very much! And now? Well, we sure haven't found anything that even comes close. Second time visiting Prestons. This time with my lovely wife. We were having trouble finding a quiet enough spot and tried two other places beforehand. Preston's wasn't as loud and headed towards quiet as the seemingly sleepy town of Scottsdale was rolling up the sidewalks. Our server was great and the assistants were almost oppressively present. Constantly asking to clear plates and offering other things. They also liked to linger a little too close and chat amongst themselves. One dull spot in an otherwise bright evening. We had a filet and lamb which were better portions than some of the other huge offerings elsewhere. Also the Preston's salad which was really good. My wife liked the bread more than I. The meat was well prepared just needing a little more salt. And the lobster Mashed potatoes was good and didn't skimp on lobster. We had several drinks which were quite good too. The server gifted us with a dessert and I selected the Butter cake. It wasn't what I hoped for, just ok. The ice cream and fruit that came with was nice. All and all a very nice evening. I had never been to Preston's before. The ambiance was very pleasant. You didn't have to shout to hear other people at your table, no other table are super close to you, and you truly felt like you could enjoy the conversation with others in your party. The food was also excellent! The calamari had excellent flavor and I loved that the lemon had a mesh cover so no lemon seeds got into the dish as you squeezed it over the calamari.. The cheese tray was also good, but the goat and sheep's cheese are definitely for those that like that type of cheese. They are heavier on flavor. The candied pecans and dried fruit were a wonderful addition. The fig spread was also quite good. It wasn't so much a jam... More like mashed up figs. My husband got the prime rib and it was amazing! Probably some of the best prime rib I've ever had. Our friends got the Tuscan steak. They said it was really good but didn't have much of a crust on it. I had the Delmonico steak... I asked for it medium but it was more on the medium well side.. so I didn't enjoy it as much as I probably would have. The chimichurri sauce was excellent. The sear on the outside of the steak added a good flavor and crunch. The side of bread that comes with the meal is amazing. I could have eaten a whole loaf by myself. For the sides... The brussel sprouts were good but nothing amazing. Same with the sauteed mushrooms and onions. I did absolutely love the loaded baked potato. I did not try the other potato but heard it was good. The martini was delicious. Not too sweet and not too heavy on the alcohol. For dessert, the butter cake is okay but for it being a signature dish, I expected more. The cookie and the brownie were also good but nothing I would be craving again. The creme brulee had an excellent flavor and definitely stood out among the desserts we had.. My friends also got the Preston's salad..I was able to try a roasted beet..it had a wonderful flavor to it. The service was great! I only wish they weren't so quick to take away plates...I was finishing up a strawberry on one of the desserts and they took my plate so I had no place to stick my strawberry stem. So... Overall Service 9.5/10 Food 8.5/10 Ambiance 10/10 I would have upped the service to 10/10 if they hadn't removed plates so fast... I would have upped the food if my steak had been prepared medium instead of medium well and the desserts had more of a "wow" factor. read more

This was our 1st time dining here and we've had it in our Yelp collection for some time now and finally made the time to dine here and we were not disappointed. Making last minute reservations I was surprised we were able to get in at 645pm on a Friday and so thankful we did. Service was impeccable, surroundings were beautiful and the food was incredible. We started our evening off with drinks, dirty martini for me and Prosecco for her. Shared the wedge salad (we always share a salad wherever we go) She got the swordfish and I got the Delmonico steak. Our shareable sides we decided on the Au gratin potatoes and creamed spinach. I don't say this lightly, but everything we had was delicious and I can honestly say this was truly one of the best meals we've had in the valley and we've been to most of the top steakhouses in the valley. Steak was perfectly cooked to medium rare, potatoes were absolutely divine and creamed spinach was in my mind the best I can remember having. We finished off the night with their famous butter cake. All in all we're keeping this restaurant on our top 5 places to return to because I saw other items on the menu that I can't wait to try. read more

Five of us had a celebration dinner at Preston's and it was fabulous! This is a big and beautiful restaurant with a sophisticated menu and perfectly prepared food. The general manager (Christian) stopped by several times to check on us. Our server, Misty, was very attentive. I ordered blackened swordfish. I love swordfish and this was prepared perfectly. It was the best fish I've ever had. The blackened seasonings were spicy and flavorful. The sides were very delicious too. We had mashed potatoes, asparagus and creamed corn. All very good. We shared two bottles of Austin Hope Cabernet. Pricey, but super delicious. My friends all loved their entrees too. We did not have one complaint. I look forward to returning to Preston's. read more

The rich flavor and quality beef is the perfect choice for the meat eater in your life. - Tuscan Steak - I love the freshness of the garlic and lemon with arugula and fried egg on top. I got it medium rare and it was also cooked to perfection. - Butter Cake - The perfectly not too sweet dessert to end your meal. We came for my husband's birthday. He really wanted to try their Del Monico Steak. Apparently, this cut is hard to find! We ordered the Calamari, shared a Wedge Salad, he ordered the Del Monico and I ordered the 4 oz. Crab Cake Appetizer. My husband said his steak was perfectly cooked and he loved the flavor. I thoroughly enjoyed the Calamari. It had a lovely acidity to it and had soo much depth of flavor. I saved the sauce for my bread. The wedge was standard and delicious. I loved the whole piece of bacon, cooked just like I like it. My crab cake was the perfect amount of food for me. It was moist, not too breaded, and had tons of quality crab. We were seated near the fireplace which has a quality view of the sunset. The sky was so giving that night it was lovely to watch. Our server was accommodating, present and informative. I had high expectations for this steakhouse, so I was a bit disappointed when I walked in and saw people dressed casually in shorts, despite the restaurant's business casual dress code. My family and I were dressed elegantly for a birthday celebration, and the casual atmosphere was unexpected. Additionally, the initial cafeteria-like smell upon entering did not give the impression of an upscale steakhouse, especially after driving an hour to get there. That said, the dining room itself was elegant, and our service was absolutely phenomenal. Our server was attentive, kind, and made sure everything was perfect. He even brought out a lovely birthday cake for my son, though I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have a candle for him to blow out. However, the dessert--a chocolate chip cookie skillet with ice cream--was fantastic, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The cocktails were another highlight. I loved that they provided an iPad with photos of each cocktail, so I knew exactly what I was ordering without having to search online. Every restaurant should do this--it made the experience so much easier and enjoyable! The wine and steak were perfect, and everything we ordered was cooked beautifully. Sad to say goodbye to a gem... Just had one last meal at Preston's, and you'd never know the restaurant is closing its doors. The food was as incredible as ever, the atmosphere warm and welcoming, and the service flawless--exactly what made Preston's such a special place all along. Preston's Steakhouse has become our 'go to' for a place to go hang out; for a place to take our out of town guests; a place we know we can get a great fancy dinner, should we want or a NOT so fancy dinner but a great meal in the lounge area with the 'happy hour' menu that is only in the lounge but also the white linen but not pretentious area off the lounge. Seriously, Prestons just checks all the boxes. We love the bar area for the Lamb Chop Fondue or the Preston's Burger but I happen to love the Dungeoness Crab Cocktail and I pair it with a small filet. I also love the bartenders, who seem to stay and love their jobs.. so something must be great about the management team. I also love that when it's a night for dressing up and you want more of a formal feel to the night you can reserve in the dining room.. or for an event, a private dining room... we have done pretty much all that I have spoken of. We have sat at the bar and had the best conversations while watching football and noshing on Prime Filet or Rib Sandwiches and the fries are spectacular and large... totally to share! Desserts and wines or cocktails.. always the best! The patio upstairs is a great place in spring in fall and the only thing I think that could make it better is a little live music :-) Our recent house full of holiday guests LOVED this place! Food was outstanding yet pricing wasn't extreme. It's not Maple and Ash but that's exactly why we liked it - sometimes you want an outstanding steak and you don't want the pretentious atmosphere. It's resort casual but with your neighbors and not the resort. Service was great and all of our courses arrived appropriately spaced out. One thing to keep in mind that the steaks come out on cast iron plates or bowls if it comes with a broth. My wife felt her medium, Louisiana BBQ steak with shrimp was well done by the end of her meal. She'll order rare or med rare next time to account for the extra heat of the bowl and broth that continued to cook her steak. She didn't complain much as the flavor of everything so good. My med rare ribeye was perfectly cooked. I had no issue with additional cooking but I had a more open plate without any broth. It's a nice touch to have your steak hot for the entire meal. Preston's is mine and my husbands favorite steakhouse. We drive 40 minutes just to go here when we want our fix of a good steakhouse. Any restaurant that serves prime rib every day is at the top of our list. And Preston's prime rib has a Smokey flavor and amazing creamy horseradish sauce to pair with it. I either get the filet (cooked rare, of course) or the Chilean sea bass, cooked blackened with the umami sauce (only way to order the fish is with umami sauce ). No matter what, you can't go wrong. Always get the calamari as an appetizer and the butter cake is always satisfying for dessert. We always request for Lori to be our server ! She's amazing and always happy and has great recommendations, for food and drinks. This steakhouse is top notch , in a beautiful part of town and we have never had bad food or bad service. I thoroughly enjoy coming here for dinner. I usually dine here about twice a year specifically for birthdays and it's always a treat here at Preston's. The service is always phenomenal, the food is always delicious and the ambiance is always inviting. I dined here over the weekend to celebrate a birthday. I ordered the lamb chop fondue for an appetizer, red sangria for the cocktail, and the 10oz Delmonico steak cooked medium rare, prime rib cooked medium, with the lobster mac and cheese and the buttercake for dessert. Everything came out hot (even the buttercake! which I want to say is a first since I've dining here) and cooked exactly as requested. I rate this dining experience 10/10. The food was wonderful and everything was cooked to order and prepared very well. The ambience was beautiful as always. Beautiful lighting. Regarding the service, Katy (the hostess) and Amy our server and Armando her assistant for the night, were awesome to us. We were there celebrating a birthday and they all, at every touchpoint, mentioned it to the birthday boy and made him feel very special. We also received our requested seat without an issue at all and I really appreciate how Preston is turning it around because the last time I was there 2.5 years ago it was going downhill and I'm really impressed. UPDATE: It pains me to downgrade my rating, but our dining experience last night was below par. Usually, we enjoy sitting at the bar, but we had no reservations and took what the hostess gave us. We actually got a beautiful table next to the windows. Our server was friendly but new and wouldn't serve pig wings in the dining room. Our shrimp cocktail was superb. We were really disappointed with our entres. I ordered the 22 oz bone in ribeye mid rare. It came out perfectly cooked but had almost no rib cap and tasted really lean and tough for a rib eye. For over $72 for an alla carte steak, I expect a much better cut of beef. I complained, and they brought me a second one that was absolutely no better. I accepted it because I just wanted to go home as my wife had been done eating for ten minutes. Don't get me wrong, we love Preston's and the great people who work there. Two poor quality steaks won't keep me away forever, but I might consider other protiens for dinner. read more

I rarely leave reviews and actually sat a few days before leaving this. We went in 745pm on a Saturday with reservations. My mom, sister and I. My mom has always raved about Preston's and we have been more times than we can count to Arrowhead Grill (a sister restaurant of Preston's). We ordered oysters, the artichoke, salad, soup, specialty drinks from the bar, sea bass, and two ribeyes with scallops. To preface- we ordered a significant amount to sample. The food was mediocre- at best. The sea bass was overcooked and steak not presented and was re-platted. More so was the service. Upon sitting the air conditioning must have been turned on and it was freezing. We had requested our server to either turn down or we could move. He said he would address. Then we reminded again and he was dismissive. So we remained, I wore my jacket the entire meal and switched sides of the table with my sister. He was neglectful even with the basic task to check our water. I have no problem to refill the sparkling water, but it was inconveniently placed in a bucket next to the table. Regardless, I served us not one full liter but the two. Overall- very disappointed. I'm sure that is not typical from both lackluster service but sub-par food. Giving two stars as the support staff was helpful, including upon the conclusion of our meal to clear the table, it was commented how cold it was. It's been at least two years since I ate at Preston's Steakhouse, I wish I had come back sooner. We went for an early Saturday evening/Father's Day sit at the bar dinner and ate from of the bar menu. My wife had the surf & turf, and I had the prime rib along with a cup of French Onion soup. And, we shared the sautéed broccoli. All of the food was cooked to perfection. Denna and other surfers were very attentive and very friendly. I was on a business trip and didn't know what time I would even have a chance to eat. I yelped and found this place and took a chance. I walked in luckily got a table. The place is clean and we'll lit meaning I didn't have to put my cell flashlight on to read the menu. The server was great and the food came in a timely manner. My first experience was very good in the downstairs dining room but the second time we came for happy hour and wanted to sit in the bar at 4:30 on a Friday, the hostess guided us to the upstairs bar even though there were tables in the bar downstairs with no "reserved" signs on them. The upstairs was a total disappointment. Much like a cafeteria, the tablecloths were bland beige and the decor dismal. This area appears to be an afterthought for overflow but they should spruce it up for the prices you pay. Service was good but the somber atmosphere made me wonder if we should stay to pay $35 for their Lobster Mac & Cheese. (There is a small balcony but the umbrellas didn't provide enough coverage for the afternoon sun.) Management take note: Your upstairs should match the rest of the restaurant if you are going to charge the same prices for food. I have never seen another upscale steak and/or seafood restaurant that has an inconsistency such as this. read more

Another great experience at Preston's! Originally went there because i got some BOGO coupon in the mail. Had zero expectations and was so impressed that i got on their VIP program and now have been numerous times and have introduced a bunch of friends to this amazing steakhouse! they have wonderful HH and you MUST try their fondue lamp chops!! I dream about them they are that good! Delmonico steak is delicious and we usually get Chimichurri sauce on the side to dip it in. My birthday was a couple months ago & I forgot to post my review. I came in with my birthday coupon of BOGO delmonico steak. I mean, you can't be mad at that!! Made a reservation without any issues via OpenTable. I arrived a few mins late & since it was Friday I was worried they'd given it to someone else. Luckily, they hadn't..:yet. I was seated shortly after I arrived. Just me. Party of one. I reserved a seat upstairs & it was really very lovely. Service was attentive, efficient, & very pleasant. I was originally going to take home the second delmonico because they will allow you to do that & they can vacuum seal/flash freeze too! I was hungrier than I thought so I asked them to fire the second one & they graciously did so. Both steaks were cooked to perfection & perfectly seasoned. A delicious meal and steak in North Scottsdale! It's very large and well laid out on the inside. It reminds me of a more traditional East Coast style steakhouse. Service was great and very prompt and they have a lot of great options on the menu. I was served a glass of water with a big red lipstick stain on it so the meal started off a bit rocky, but once all the food came out it more than made up for that. Parking is also really easy as they have parking in the front, the side, and the rear of the restaurant. Tonight I started with the seasonal appetizer: the Grilled Artichoke and I loved it. I have been ordering and eating them since I was very young, so it's nice to see the option on the menu. We also ordered the French Onion Soup for the table and it was absolutely delicious. A large amount of cheese and bread on top and a deep, rich flavor beneath. For my entrée I chose the 12 ounce Filet Mignon, and it was cooked perfectly. I chose the Umami Beurre Blanc on the side, which was complementary, and delicious. I would highly recommend ordering both. For my side I chose the Loaded Baked Potato, and it was a great addition. Overall a really nice meal in a very pleasant setting with great service. I would definitely recommend and plan to be back in the future. read more

A fantastic meal! Tonight my fiancé and I decided to take a break from wedding planning and enjoy an evening alone. We decided early on we wanted a steakhouse, but didn't want to break our budget. Preston's was certainly the right decision. Although the meal wasn't the cheapest meal (above budget by $40), it met the standards of a high end steakhouse and was well worth the price. We went on a Wednesday to participate in the wine Wednesday 1/2 off bottle deal and enjoyed a delicious Chablis, chilled. We had a plan to order a porter house steak and a chicken salad family style, but quickly got suckered into the 40oz porter house meal for 2 (an evening special). Salads and sides included. It was the best decision of my life. The porter house was delivered in a cast iron dish steaming and sizzling and precut. Our sides came hot, the brussel sprouts had bacon and Parmesan and the mashed potatoes warm and whipped. We quickly agreed that we were extremely spoiled, and my fiance even went so far as to claim it was the best meal she has ever had. We will be coming back to Preston's, as it was an amazing experience, a beautiful outside atmosphere, and delicious food. I also ordered a whisky, the Arizona Copper, and I will say that it was quite unnecessary. I love Preston's and we're lucky to have them in North Scottsdale. There are 6 seating areas - downstairs bar with high tops, lounge with a huge fireplace, beautiful dining room with lots of hand blown glass sculptures, courtyard patio, plus the rooftop patio with great views. They also have a private dining room, in which my wife threw a birthday celebration dinner for my 45th. There's a great happy hour from 3-6pm with solid discounts on both food items and drinks in the bar and lounge. Of course the menu is full of amazing items. On my last visit I had the Preston's salmon with cajun shrimp and it was absolutely delicious. I've had three cuts of steak at this point including their Delmonico which is an absolutely awesome piece of beef. Finally, the Preston's Burger...I had it with blue cheese instead of swiss and let me tell you it is the best burger I have ever had, anywhere, and that includes the pricier burger at Michelin starred Grammercy Tavern in NYC, Gordon Ramsay Burger's Truffle Burger, among other elevated burger experiences. Their smoked old fashioned is a delicious cocktail that is truly an "experience" in and of itself, and their wine menu is excellent, as expected at a fine steakhouse in North Scottsdale.
