    Wedge salad
    Lloyd M.

A very disappointing experience. I'll start with the good. The wedge salad was great. Large portion with some innovations. Balsamic worked well with the bleu cheese while I appreciated the avocado. The waitress was also excellent, pleasant tried quite hard. Unfortunately, went downhill after that. My entree, the ribeye was okay, but definitely nothing special. Slightly overcooked with not too much flavor. The real disappointment was the cocktail my wife ordered, a strawberry lime mojito. First, it literally took over 30 minutes. Maybe understandable if the restaurant and bar were packed but there were scarcely anyone at either (which is probably the morale of this story, given it was move in week at VT). When it arrived, it was as my wife described as the worst cocktail ever. Mint, the underbelly of a mojito, was just ground mint flavor, not the fresh mint leaves you expect (or were on the menu). The strawberry and lemon garnishes were rotten and the drink tasted as bad as it looked, it was undrinkable. When my wife told the manager, he took it back without even an apology. It ruined what would have been an average meal, no reason to go with so many better options.

Truffle mushroom pasta...such a delicious, flavor-packed, dreamy dish

OMG!!!! The food is amazing. When I say amazing, I mean party-in-your-mouth amazing. The flavors really pop. The quality of the ingredients is spectacular. The ambiance/decor was very classy. It's the water-in-your-wine-glass type of restaurant. Yet it didn't feel pretentious. The waitress was an absolute sweetheart. I don't give many 5s, but this place could even get a 6 from me based on the food alone. I had a bite from the plates of every member of my party (4 entrees all together), and everything was scrumptious! The prices were on the higher side, mostly $20+ entrees, but I say money well spent! The portions are not over-sized like many restaurants, but the quality of the food really trumps that. The bittersweet aspect is that they change their menu very often so I don't know if I'll ever get to go back for that Truffle mushroom pasta dish I ordered (about which I dream quite often). However, they seem to be unable to go wrong on the food.

snowed in during "Pax", the delish trout was a pleasant surprise

Wow! This place knows how to make some pasta. I have ordered from here several times and have been…read moremore than satisfied each time. Not Your Mama's Pasta started out at the Blacksburg Farmers Market and ended up opening a brick and mortar store due to their popularity. They offer Roman styled pizzas and handmade pastas. The eatery is located in downtown Blacksburg and parking could be tricky. The size of the restaurant is also not super large, so keep that in mind. I do appreciate the ambiance of the interior though. The service is always quick and very friendly as well! Their Roman styled pizzas are decent, but the pasta is definitely the star of the show here! Roman pizza uses fermented dough, making the texture more like a focaccia. However, it isn't the same as a Sicilian styled pizza. The pizza isn't the best Roman pizza I've had, but it ins't bad at all. Now the pasta is the real star of the show here! All of their pasta is handmade with local ingredients and ingredients imported from Italy. The quality of the ingredients really enhances the flavors of their dishes. The pasta is quite rich, the noodles are cooked al dante, and the sauces burst with flavors. I have ordered several pasta dishes including the Cacio e Pepe, Pistachio Cacio e Pepe, and the Carbonara. All three were absolutely amazing! The Cacio e Pepe includes pecorino and black pepper, with a luscious, creamy sauce. The Pistachio Cacio e Pepe includes pecorino, black pepper, and pistachios that are blended into the sauce. This too is a very good dish, full of great flavor. The Carbonara was my favorite with bacon, egg yolk, pecorino, and black pepper. This dish was rich and heavier, but in the best way. There were ample amounts of bacon, balanced out with the egg yolk and tangy cheese. I would recommend any of their pasta dishes any day of the week! Overall, Not Your Mama's Pasta is a wonderful establishment here in Blacksburg. They offer a nice variety of authentic Italian dishes ranging from pastas to Roman pizzas. I have not been disappointed with anything I have ordered from here. Everything is made with high quality ingredients too. I really enjoy ordering from here and look forward to returning!

Not overly busy on a Sunday evening, so service was attentive. Prices were reasonable. Reservations are available but were not needed on the night of our visit. Recommended. The restaurant is in a strip mall area near VT campus, with an outdoor/parking lot patio and two wings of seating on either side of the entrance. The graduation menu was a limited, but good selection of fixed price entrees, apps, salads and desserts. They also had cocktails and a nice selection of wine. The restaurant also doubles as a wine shop. A couple of us had beef cannelloni and one had a sausage and pasta dish, along with a calamari starter and Caesar salads. Calamari was hot fresh and very tender, with a good dipping sauce. Salads were crisp and tangy, with the addition of delicious bread. The baked Cannelloni was superb with a ton of flavor and served piping hot. Tasted like some real love went into it; same with the pasta/sausage dish. Large portions and prices were reasonable were quite reasonable. Finished with some light and airy chocolate mousse. Overall, outstanding service and food, especially when considering the limited options for finer dining in Blacksburg. Only drawback IMO is the quality of the food and service is miles above the ambiance and decor. Could still be rustic, but with some interior color and server dress coordination, would make for a classier dining experience.

First of all, this restaurant has one of the most beautiful and elegant interior designs that I have ever seen in a restaurant. Using a combination of quality wood and stone materials, an excellent floor plan, simple but elegant furniture, impressive paintings on the walls, and an outstanding lighting treatment; as soon as I opened the door and went in, I totally fell in love with the beautiful decor and lovely ambiance of the place. I still hadn't experienced the restaurant fully, yet I already wanted to return. As I regained my consciousness of where I was, the hostess arrived and gave my friend and I a warm welcome and brought us to a two person table wonderfully located next to a window facing the front of the restaurant. Then she handed us the menu and confirmed that our server would be shortly with us. The menu was another indicator of an extraordinary restaurant. It contained a vast number of wonderful entrées of which I was interested in trying most of them. Our server Nora arrived with a big smile and a welcoming attitude, and after giving us a warm greeting, took our order very efficiently, knowing that this was our first time eating at this restaurant. We both ordered the Filet Stroganoff and a side house salad that came with it. I ordered a balsamic vinaigrette salad dressing. One of my favorites, although blue cheese dressing is not far behind. The food arrived and starting with the salad it all was amazingly delicious. I loved the cheese and black olives included in the salad, and those that can only be found in very exclusive restaurants. The main entrées were also culinary masterpieces and a nice amount. For dessert we both ordered the Gluten Free Peanut Butter Pie. It was exquisitely amazing. Our server Nora provided us with outstanding customer service. She came by our table at the appropriate times to check on us and provided us with excellent service and an amazing dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant to all of you reading my review and viewing the photographs accompanying it. The ambiance, the food, the service, and even the selection and quality of music played in the background and sounding like live, all working together to provide an outstanding dining experience that was one of a kind.

We actually tried eating here a few months prior but the wait was nearly 2 hours long. This go around we had no wait. We were immediately sat and our drink orders were taken. Both my daughter and I chose apple juice. We also ordered a small appetizer b/c she was starving. The appetizer was yummy, can't remember what it was called but it was basically like doughnuts without the caramel it comes with. Our server was a young man and he did a fantastic job. He was very attentive to our table and our needs. The food was amazing, now I see why there was a 2 hour wait last time. I rarely eat other people's grits but these were pretty tasty and cooked just right. When I got my check I was in total shock though. Two apple juices (with no refills mind you) were approx. $5 a piece. WTF, why so expensive? I could have purchased a large jug of apple juice from Kroger. Yeah, I know I sound cheap. Nope, that the case just shocked at the price of a small glass of apple juice was with again no refills. We will definitely return next time I visit but we won't get apple juice again, we will stick to water.
