Strolling Annapolis on a hot day we stopped at Preserve for a quick drink. The overall vibe appeared to be a hotspot on the downtown walk. We enjoyed seating outside, we were serve properly by an energetic informative waitress. Stayed for only one drink but definitely looking forward to stopping back again on our next trip. I understand this review is several months past due, but I came here with my mom on a whim after deciding we didn't want to wait close to an hour for a table at Iron Rooster. I had heard good things about the cheeseburger from a friend and it didn't disappoint: two smash style patties, American, cheese, on a toasty bun with standard accoutrements. Easily one of the best burgers I have ever had. The owner of the restaurant came to our table to check in on us as well which was a really nice touch; I've lived in or near Annapolis my whole life and not once has the owner approached my table to see how our experience was. From what I remember, I also believe the menu is locally sourced which explains why some menu items rotate. Highly recommend this spot if you want an elevated meal that doesn't feel like the typical generic fare you see at other tourist spots in downtown Annapolis. read more

Yummy syrup maybe with little bourbon maybe that feels like fall. Don't want to miss. Salmon Norwegian: Classic take done perfectly with well portioned and cut salmon. Side salad is large and with yummy vinaigrette. The simplicity let's the fresh ingredients speak for themselves. Wish I could leave 3 1/2 stars as that would really be our preference. Had a nice meal at Preserve though I will say, I did expect a bit better given all the rave reviews. Service was very warm and attentive - although the outdoor seating is limited, there was plenty of swift ventilation indoors, which made us feel safer when we couldn't snag an outdoor table with our yet to be old enough to get the vaccine children. The kale salad, while a touch too sweet, was truly delicious. Unique and a great start to the meal. The pork belly was honestly not great. They neglected to remove the skin, leaving that chewy bite of rind on the edges. The watermelon had very little flavor so it was essentially just some cooked pork belly in some flavorless, difficult to eat sauce (a spoon would have helped). The rockfish appetizer was not good. It was fishy (I love rockfish so it wasn't us I swear) and stayed too long in whatever acid it was in before it came to the table, so it was already fully "cooked" and not a crudo at all. Pretty flavorless and again, no spoon so impossible to actually enjoy the sauce when sharing. Our son's mushroom cheesesteak was the best dish of the night. Perfection. The fish and chips - fish was good but the orders are inconsistent: the person next to us got a HUGE portion of fish and we received one very small piece with a ton of undercooked thick chips. Not crispy - just kind of flacid chunky potatoes. Our daughter liked her pork sandwich but it wasn't anything particularly special. Even the cocktail (cucumber gin) was missing some pizazz. A bright shot of lime would have made a huge difference. I'm sad to give this sweet place a humdrum review. It just wasn't the dining out worthy experience we were hoping for. Perhaps we didn't choose well but we tried a LOT of dishes and when kale that's a little too sweet and a mushroom sandwich are the best that they have, I'm afraid it's not one to recommend or write home about. read more

What a cute spot! my sister had been the weekend before my husband & I visited and gave us the low down on where to go and Preserve was at the top of her list. They don't take reservations so we planned to put our name in (around 12:45 on a Saturday) and shop around but we only ended up waiting maybe 15-20 min. It is a small spot but they have some tables outside as well as bar seats. We were seated at a booth closer to the back that was cozy. We specifically ate a light breakfast so we would have room for lunch but even so I was full after apps! We tried the icebox pickles which my sister had recommended and they were good but I think she hyped them up a bit. We also tried the pupusas & the shrimp dip. The winner here was definitely the shrimp dip which was SO good. The pupusas were also good but just not as interesting as the dip. Now, the star of the show, was my sandwich, the BLT. Sounds unassuming, right? Well, you and I are both wrong. This BLT is on a whole other level with corned beef tongue, pickled green tomatoes & aioli. This was, no joke, one of the best sandwiches I've ever had in my life and I plan to make a trip to Annapolis just to have it again. read more

This place is so cool and hip and cute! Our server was excellent, very informative and I love the emphasis they place on using local ingredients. I had the whiskey cocktail with pumpkin gochujang and chili oil and it was so fun, fall, unique. The kale appetizer is an absolute must try from someone who doesn't eat kale. It was incredible. Pork belly app, pork loin and curry scallops were all great dishes as well but the crispy kale with cumin yogurt really steals the show. Quaint establishment serving American cuisine on the main drag in downtown Annapolis. After our tour of the near by naval academy, the Preserve was the lunchtime choice for our group. When we arrived, the restaurant was sill serving brunch. I chose the sausage , grits and gravy as my entree. It was very good. Just the right amount of food. I also enjoyed my wife's preserve burger entree as a left over the next day. The burger was was very good as well. I had the local pilzner draft that was exceptional. I've got two words for you: CRISPY. KALE ! My husband and I were originally slated to go on our honeymoon the week before Christmas. However with the pandemic - as with many others - our plans were changed. To improvise we had a "mini-moon getaway" to Annapolis and we stopped by Preserve after reading their many glowing reviews. Originally thinking we should try out Annapolis's famous crab cakes, we decided to go with some other orders after learning they had ran out. Even though I am pretty certain their crab cakes would've been delicious, I'm glad this happened to us anyway because we go to try out their crispy kale! Yep you heard me right, *this* is actually the pot of gold on the menu! I raised half an eyebrow when this was recommended to us, but it all makes sense now!! This is no ordinary fried kale ya'll. It is finger licking, addicting, bite-after-bite crunchy goodness. My husband, who isn't really a "fried kale" kind of guy, glowed after this dish! If this was the only thing we got to eat on the menu and left, I would still leave this place 5 stars happy belly points! The kale is literally perfectly crunchy crisped, accompanied by several dollops of perfectly spiced yogurt, combined with some diced onion that gives it a slight punch, with the cherry on-top in home made red pepper jelly (this main ingredient is the bow tie that gathers it all together). A mix of sweet, savory, crunchy, *makes you feel healthy*, mix of flavors calling your taste buds to get up and do a tango in your mouth. Yum. Yum. Yum. I'd come back just for this alone. Of course, no meal is a meal without french fries! Their house made hand cut fries are also delectably made with the perfect crunch with the perfect house made savory side sauce. We also had the Smokey fish dip, they even made their own in house large crackers to go with it! Stellar. We were absolutely fortunate to have landed in this place before they planned to temporarily close down until after the holidays. Came here for a quick bite and some wine. Had some lovely grilled oyster and pumpernickel toast with smoked salmon, salmon roe, and dill. The service was great and the atmosphere was warm and cozy. On a rainy autumn night this was a great spot to pull up a chair and rest a while. The husband-wife duo that own the place are very gracious and make you feel like guests in their own home. Hubby and I decided to take a quick getaway to Annapolis to relax and recharge. After walking around, we stopped to grab a drink at a place with outdoor seating. As we sat outside and tried to figure out where we were going for dinner, I looked up and spotted Preserve right across the street. Just our luck, as I was checking out their menu online, I noticed a family was preparing to get up from one of their outside tables, situated between 2 heat lamps. Perfect! Hubby rushed over to secure a table for the 2 of us. Once they left, the staff cleaned and sanitized the table and we were seated about 5 minutes later. A quick note about their social distancing, they only have 5 tables outside and they were well spaced with heat lamps between the tables closest to the street. The table where we sat, was covered by an open tent with a half side wall on one side to block passing cars from looking in. All of the staff had on their PPE and were wearing it properly. Anyway, back to the menu. It featured a collection of dishes with preserved ingredients, just as the name suggests. I was sold at Steak frites. We ordered that to share along with a prosciutto dish and pierogis for our appetizers. I especially loved the prosciutto, it was sliced perfectly and the scallions and honey sauce were a nice complement. We ordered bread to go with it and I'm so glad we did so we could sop up every last bit of that sauce. The pierogis were light and creamy, hubby loved them, they were good but not what I'd typically order. The steak frites arrived and it was nice that they portioned it into two dishes so we wouldn't have to share. Our medium steak was cooked to perfection on a grill and the seasoning was just right. It was served with a tasty steak sauce on the side. I will say the frites were interesting. We were told they were brined for a few days before frying. You could definitely tell they weren't your average French fries. The crispness was perfect but the taste was a miss for me. Overall, I loved the vibe of the restaurant. Our waiter was super friendly. The drinks were amazing and the food was delicious. They took social distancing seriously and I didn't feel anxious while trying to enjoy one of our rare eating out experiences these days. My daughter treated me to dinner here this past weekend . It was a really interesting meal . The restaurant itself is extremely small. The night we went we were seated next to a window and it was so cold, it was a bit tough to get comfortable A very unique menu, enjoyable to experience something different. We started with cocktails- I had a Vodka drink with vanilla and blood orange. It was delicious :served In a cute bear glass . My daughter had a bourbon drink that they smoked table side- she said it was very good. We started with Apps - we got the Crispy Kale which was really good- very unusual. We also got the pierogies - they came with mushrooms that were good. The perogies were good but could have used more filling. For entrees I ordered Bucatini with scallops In cauliflower cream. OMG - it was to die for. The presentation was beautiful. I could eat that anytime ! We also got the lamb neck entree. It was quite good- I felt the sauce was a bit heavy and the celery root batons could have been left off ! All in all it was a good meal- I definitely would go again. read more

Lovely Main St spot. Food is spot on, especially the kale with the yogurt and sweet jam. Don't laugh-it's epic! Service has always been fast, and with a smile, a genuine smile; not a turn around and roll their eyes smile-even though there are probably people that warrant the roll. Here's the initial tab charged thru by barkeep to my debit card! $235.28 vs NORMAL fee $3.86 for the tea! Imagine my consternation at such a huge error ! Here's the problem... barkeep seemingly disingenuous and unapologetic, didn't trust her. OK, yes it happens and yes it was reversed no final charge, however it wasn't so BZ. Seemingly not serving anyone else, passed my order along to other bartender to prepare the tea served me the tea and bam ! I can understand it's hard to find ppl however owner Jeremy also seemed to shrug ‍ gross overcharge off as well "it happens". Did barkeep entertain thought would go unnoticed who knows! Quality was better than expected on every dish that was served! We had perhaps the best mushrooms ever on the scallops, and the scallops themselves were perfectly cooked! Quite a feat. My boyfriend and I dined at Preserve on a whim and I'm so glad we did! It was a busy Friday night, but we were able to be seated at the bar. We received great service and got to have conversations with the staff I don't think we'd have been able to have at a table. The food is amazing, to say the very least. Flavor and execution is spot on!! Portion sizes are perfect, the plates are presented beautifully, and the menu is creative. We also tried three different cocktails which were all delicious. We especially liked that while the restaurant is beautifully decorated with a higher than average price point, it is not pretentious or stuffy. A special shout out to Austin working the bar. We went to preserve for a nice casual lunch. They were still serving brunch so I went with the brunch burger. Preserve is supposed to be known for their fermentation, but I didn't notice anything in my dish that was fermented or stood out to me. Another person in my party got the chicken salad sandwich, which was fermented, but did not stand out and was very soggy. Overall the food was just average, but more on the expensive end. The service, however, was very slow. We ordered an appetizer of pickles, which took nearly 20 minutes to come out. Had to wait nearly an hour for the rest of the food to come. The food is excellent, some of the best in Annapolis, I have referred a ton of tourists to the restaurant, because I live a few blocks away from the restaurant. Their menu is creative and innovative, the chef is a true artist. They are so accommodating to food allergies and it is clear each meal & each drink is individually crafted for each customer, so I want the kitchen staff to know, we see your ability and we love what you do for the clients of Preserve, keep doing what you are doing. The service though is not friendly, every time I go, I feel like I annoy the wait staff and everyone that I know that goes to Preserve feels the same way. I am a local, and the snobbiness from the wait staff makes me feel less inclined to visit. I know Preserve will do just fine without my satisfaction, but I wonder if the owners want the reputation of unkind servers? Because that is what they have right now. So far Garten's staff is very friendly so I hope that friendliness is the intent of the owners of Preserve for their servers. Very quaint and unassuming restaurant, right off the harbor in downtown Annapolis. Tucked in between a popular stretch of shops, Preserve was a real treat. We ordered a variety of dishes including the fried pickles, shakshukha and quinoa salad. Their quinoa salad, in particular, was a bowl "stacked with delicious shrubbery" as our waiter told us - leaving us quite full by the end of it. Their cocktails are particularly well crafted and bursting with creative flavors. For example, they have one with tequila and smoked hot sauce in a mason jar full of ice and garnished with pickled red onion and pepper making for an eye-popping margarita! The restaurant has a very cute décor and allows for you to walk around following your meal to stop by cute gift shops. You can't go wrong with any of the dishes here and I strongly suggest you order plenty to share all-around. A+! read more

Had an amazing meal here this evening. A lot of fun and flavorful new twists on some classic dishes and some things I've never had before! Started with the, tempura fried kale (must try) & the creamy potato filled pierogies. Both were delicious and so many complex flavors. For our entrees we split the butter poached Hake & the rice flour battered blue catfish. One of the best fish and chips I've ever had, the breading was crisp and crunchy and the catfish was soft and flaky, a real treat. The hake was perfectly prepared and the apple butter and bernaise sauce gave each bite a burst of flavor that all paired so well together. To top it all off, the interior was extremely cozy and had great music playing and our bartender was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Note: this was for a fixed NYE menu ($150). Absolutely worth every penny. The only dish that we weren't in love with was the pasta, but even it was still a 7/10.
