Stumbled upon this place while visiting Chester, it's located behind the shops on the main strip. It surpassed my expectations. Everything in the restaurant was cute and trendy, down to the utensils. The staff were great, very personable and attentive. The menu was unique. All of the food we ordered (pulled pork hoagie, French onion soup, and spaghetti squash) was delicious. Fantastic new restaurant! I've been three times since their recent opening for breakfast, brunch, and lunch. Tasty fresh food served by positive friendly staff in a well decorated clean and zen-filled decor. Delicious options for vegans, gluten-free, and everything else. I have ordered take-out three times during the pandemic for two adults. The food has been tasty, but rather expensive, running $27/person for a takeout entree and a dessert. Twice we have had the pulled pork with delicious roasted butternut squash and macaroni and cheese. Most recently we had the falafel platter and the meatloaf entree. The pork is almost as good as that at Long Valley's Pulled Fork. The only downside to the pork entree is the accompanying wedge of the worst cornbread I have ever eaten. Both times I have ordered this entree it has been terribly dry and hard and frankly tasteless. I'm a baker and this is a very simple quick bread to make. I can't imagine why they continue to use this recipe or not learn how to improve it. Interestingly their baked desserts are wonderful, though rather costly. We like the dark chocolate brownie and the various cake-of-the-day ($7!). My last complaint concerns my last take-out order. I called at 5:00 PM on a Tuesday night, 75 minutes before I wanted to pick-up and order of two entrees and 4 desserts. I felt that was enough leeway for the order to be prepared for pick-up. I paid in advance and when the girl took my information she remarked "because you are ordering such a short time before pick-up, would you like to add a tip?" I was shocked she would be so rude and equate a 1hour 15 minute advance order for only two entrees and 4 sliced baked goods as being not enough time and thereby requiring additional remuneration as a penalty?!! Stupidly I agreed to my usual 20% tip bring the cost of takeout for two to $63!!!. This has colored my decision to return in the future. Since when is take-out expected to also bestow a tip? And since when is 75 minutes not enough time to prepare a small takeout order on a Tuesday evening at 5:00 PM. This was not a holiday, nor a weekend busy period. In fact I was the only one picking up at the time. So although their food is tasty, it is expensive and your gratuity will make it additionally so. read more

My husband and I came here with our three-year old son for lunch on Sunday. The service was quick and so friendly. Every server was kind to us and our son - you can tell when a place actually warmly invites children and when they don't - this place does. First time in today after reading all the positive reviews! We were not disappointed. I don't know all that's in the sweet potato gratin but it was indescribably delicious. My girlfriend had a gluten free muffin that she said did not taste gluten free at all. The sausage egg and cheese sandwich was perfect as well. We will be back....often! read more

As soon as you walk into Pren kitchen the environment automatically feels homey. The hosts and servers are very welcoming, as for the actually dinning area is was a very nice homey feeling. I just wish you could add more to the menu, I had the pulled pork sandwich and my colleagues had the fried chicken sandwich I have to say, it was amazing!! This is my second visit and second review. The last time i reviewed the mouth watering burger. This time i had the drool-worthy pulled pork sandwich. I cant say enough about this place. Everyone at my table was raving about their meal. And their fries are so so yummy. I never do this but i think i ate my entire dish of fries before starting my sandwich. My kids loved it because they have games to play both at the table and over at the game wall. I don't think other tables minded that they were up and about as it seems this place caters to families and making them feel like you are eating in their family room. Wait staff was very accommodating and likes to chat. Pren doesn't feel like a restaurant but rather more like visiting family for thanksgiving before cell phones were invented (as phones are not allowed according to house rules printed on the wall). read more

If you are in a rush I highly don't suggest Pren. My friend and arrived and were seated pretty quickly, even though the restaurant was pretty full. We placed our order an Arugula salad and Chicken with Orzo (cold) salad. Our order took over and hour to be placed on our table. I think the Hostess realized how long it took and offered us a complimentary dessert, which we did not take. She did apologize for the fact we had o wait so long (btw..we didn't complain, just sat and waited). The Arugula Salad had barely any chicken on it. However, I will say that the Chicken in my Orzo Salad was quite tasty. I would give the restaurant another try...just not a lunch or dinner time. read more

Ate dinner last night. Excellent experience on all levels. Beautiful interior. You order food at the front desk, prices are excellent, includes tax & service. Take your seat & food is brought to you. It is BYOB, we had a bottle of red. Food was very good, very fresh. Deserts were fabulous. After dinner, we sat with the chef. He wanted to hear what we liked & not. I adore this new treasure in Chester! Fresh , yummy food. Staff is amazing . I love their concept of no phones - play games and actually talk to each other. The lemon ricotta gluten free pancakes are a must have, as well as the breakfast wrap and the frittata. Great coffee! Excellent service. I went to Pren Kitchen with a couple of gals. We absolutely loved the food and atmosphere. Kraig, the owner, was pretty wonderful and spent a lot of time explaining the restaurant and the sources for his food. I particularly loved the butternut squash and the cake - both were superb! Finally, Chester has a restaurant that serves consistently great and healthy food for a very reasonable price. My husband and I have been going to the place almost every day since we discovered it. The brunch is out standing. I usually don't like American breakfast, but Pren Kitchen have changed my way of thinking about American food. Love the atmosphere of the place, I felt it was in Mahhatan. Morris County doesn't have many (if any)options for outrageously yummy, farm fresh food in a warm, well designed space. Chester just got really lucky. Tucked away next to the candy barn you must go try Pren. We stopped by days ago and I'm still swooning. Where to begin? You place your order as you enter (worth noting there were several options for all sorts of dietary preferences) just the right amount of choices, priced reasonably and prepared exceptionally. This system also means no waiting for a check at the end of the meal which was oddly liberating and handy if you have tickets for a play or someplace to get to. As it was "lupper" too late for lunch but not yet supper and neither of us had eaten since morning we got an assortment of things to try. The kale salad was chopped just right, dressed lightly but lusciously, studded with cranberries and pine nuts- my kale loathing husband gobbled his up. The bean dip was unexpectedly decadent- airy yet still substantial, chilled, drizzled with an outrageous garlic aioli and served with a plate of corn chips which they offered to refill but there was no need. The roasted squash might be my favorite thing we tried- it was somehow crisp and caramelized and dusted with pepita dust- if we go together we will 100% be getting this side. Jeff got the buttermilk fried chicken strips and fries- juicy, crispy comfort food. We also got a sample of their melt in your mouth pulled pork which is savory with just a bit of sweetness from the carrots. Folks at a table nearby had the burgers which looked sinful and must be judging by the grins on their faces and the silence that fell as they ate them. The decor is warm yet clean and modern, there's a no phones or electronics policy so conversation is lively- sometimes with folks at other tables. You realize how different the world has become with everyone looking at their devices instead of at each other. There's a large table down the middle and several cozy seating options along the sides, a rolling cart of condiments with options that will make you drool. There's a giant scrabble board on a wall above a case loaded with games- we played a mean round of battleship. Great service- our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable. Last but not least we couldn't resist taking a slice of cake to go because they don't just have a creative, culinary wizard of a chef but a pastry chef that bakes that sort of timeless, homemade state-fair-blue-ribbon kind of cake. The chocolate cake looked outrageous but so glad we went with the honey orange cake- holy moly- the perfect blend of tart, creamy, and not too sweet. If you're looking for someplace to brunch, lunch, sit with a friend over a sweet treat, or sup get there soon. They offer takeout if you are en route to applepicking, antiquing, or a hike and they are BYO!!! Anxious to return for brunch, soon to be your favorite new place, it's already mine. read more
