Stopped in with a friend to catch up and grab some small brunch. We were impressed at the different drink options and my friend enjoyed a raspberry hot chocolate!! We also split some pastries which were delicious as well. Our barista was friendly and speedy! The obviously have a great thing going! Lots of genuine italian pasta and biscotti (of which I may have to go back for!). Cold quick to go options in the fridge as well. We ordered one iced latte with milk and one more with a flavor and milk. I went to pay and the cashier asked if there were flavorings on both and the women behind the counter whom I placed the order with chimed in and said yes for both. I corrected the cashier and said, no only with one of the lattes did so I would not be charged extra for two flavorings. I tasted mine and was bland and watery and I did not ask for skim which it most likely had. Unfortunately, the same with the other latte. The quiche we split was very good . We both did not drink the lattes, what a waste! We wanted coffee so went around the corner to another cafe and ordered lattes and they were prepared with care. There is no restroom in this place which I found unusual for a food establishment. With a few other cafe options in this cute town we will not be returning, even if there weren't other options. read more

Best scones I've ever had. The coconut lemon are my favorite. But the blueberry comes in a close second. Service is always nice and quick.

The espresso shots were burnt, you could tell the bakery items seemed to lack freshness, and the barista's pace and demeanor were average. Although I typically don't focus on these details, they contributed to an overall subpar experience. The ambiance was the most decent aspect, but still only average--okayish. Really enjoyed the coffee and the small little "garden" outside. We all ordered the pistachio lattes, and they were very good! Had a strong pistachio flavor and even pieces of pistachio in it. Visitor in town. Pulled over just because the outside was so beautiful and inviting - 5 stars! At first glance, you think: mom n' pop coffee shop, yummy treats, sweet customer service, delish coffee. Little, quaint coffee shop, indeed. Some tea crackers, some baked goods, and then, some confusing items such as: pasta, olives, stuffed chili peppers, olive oil, etc. Is it a coffee shop or a convenience store? I think Maria was undecided. Service was fine. ***Any order under $15 they prefer in cash, or they will charge extra. Ordered a double espresso and an almond milk latte. Husband said espresso was good. My latte was so extremely hot I burnt my tongue taking a tiny first sip. I had to ask for another cup holder (still hot). I couldn't touch the latte for 1/2 hr walking up and down Main St and in and out of stores. Then had a few sips, and in the trash it went. The almond milk must have been boiled to a crisp and so, the coffee was a dud. Walking out of the store I noticed a bizarro-world sign on the door: No strollers in the shop. Stopped in here while visiting some friends. Cute shop, but the lady working here was very rude and nasty to some of the guests and was very gruff in general. The girl with the blonde hair and glasses was lovely, not her, but the lady with the dark hair. I saw her yell at a man for bringing in a stroller...what was he to do, put his young daughter in the street while he ordered a coffee? Seeing that and the coffee not being remarkable, I will make no effort to return here. I only gave an extra star feeling bad for the nice people that work here that have to deal with that rude woman who should be nowhere near customers. read more

Definitely a disappointment had a vanilla hot latte and a cappuccino. Cappuccino had no taste whatsoever. Very disappointing. The latte was just so so. Place is pretty but service levels are not that great and not that friendly either. Signs on the table saying no laptops etc. Wouldn't you want customers to hang out and enjoy? Visited Maria's hoping to find a temporary replacement for my usual office-away-from-home which is closed on Mondays. A veritable hole in the wall with a pleasant enough outdoor area, Maria's seemed promising. Unfortunately once tasting my cappuccino rewarded me only with a bitter/burnt taste. The brownie I purchased was serviceable but no better than what you'd find at a middle school cafeteria. The lack of interior seating also wasn't ideal for getting work done, as the outside patio is tiny and exposes you to more distractions. For a coffee shop located in such a wealthy, high foot traffic area, I expected better. You're better off with a Starbucks (located a few minutes from there). read more

Ordered their Americano. Saw some delicious cakes and other baked goodies but was too full. Oh that whisky biscotti looked perfect for dunking into my coffee. Service was very pleasant and the atmosphere was very warm and cozy. While they only had two tables for two, one table for four, there was a big looking high table with tall stools that comfortable fits 8. We can share or perfect fit a larger group. No, I'm not a cop. Lol. Just observed. They grind their beans fresh and the coffee reflects it. For me, and please remember that coffee is subjective but I personally prefer a stronger cup of Americano. I felt they only put in one shot of espresso but I've gotten use to getting two shots. Next time I'll ask them to do that and get it stronger. Where forth art thou?? When most people get lost they are annoyed but not me. When I get lost I always stumble across a great find and this time was no exception. Small, almost hidden and unassuming, I found this yummy little coffee shop with homemade baked goods. Upon entering, the space is small with about 4 or 5 high and low tables, with a hutch on the side that holds all the condiments et al and on the opposite wall a refrigerator with the cold drinks. Adjacent to the front counter is a showcase of pastries and baked goods. On the back wall list the days specials as well as a list of hot and cold coffees and teas. You could tell the patrons inside were locals and clearly are repeat customers as they joked with Maria (I presume, the place's namesake) and drank hot beverages on this crisp fall morning. I ordered a vanilla chai tea latte and a zucchini and sundried tomato quiche. Could have kicked myself because I forgot to order my tea with soy but oh well it was just a tasty. Hot mildly sweet and delicious. Honestly, I enjoyed the taste and appreciated the reduced taste of sweetness (sugar) that many of the popular coffee shops have in their flavored syrups/sweetners. And oh my, the flaky crust and the zucchini and the sundried tomato quiche was lite yet filling without feel stuffed. Nice homemade goodness. You could tell it was homemade not commercial brand. This is a gem in downtown Chester. I've been going here for years even before it was Maria's. It's such a cozy spot to grab delicious pastries and also amazing sandwiches. There's a great patio space to sit and relax -- when there's not a global pandemic. We've been going here to take out coffee and snacks during isolation even more now and Maria and staff have been so sweet and accommodating. I was walking in for coffee behind a really nice woman with a stroller. I went to go open the door for her and the woman working behind the counter was EXTREMELY rude telling her she had to leave since she had a stroller. It was so uncomfortable and almost seemed as though she didn't want people coming into her shop so I decided not to go in at all. I get that there was a no stroller sign (which I didn't even notice myself) but wow. I've never seen someone turned away from an empty business because they had a stroller with their child in it. I've had an ok coffee from here before but ordered a 'pumpkin pie' latte today (yes yes I know but I have to get one per season) and it was un-drinkable. On top of that I had to pay a $1 surcharge bc I didn't have cash. I heard about this place through word of mouth. I have been going to Starbucks right across the way, but now I am definitely switching to coming here instead. The cafe is right in be middle of Chester Main Street where all of shops are. It is very small--there are 4 small tables and one long table that seats 6. All together the cafe seats 16. The decor is really cute. And comfortable. A lot of light. It seems like there are a lot of regulars, and Maria has gotten to know them personally, which is cool. Maria makes ALL of her baked goods, and they are really reasonably priced-- about the same price of sbux but MUCH better. I had her French vanilla coffee this morning and it was wonderful, strong coffee. Also had a huge chocolate chip muffin...YUM! She also makes blended lemonade that she can blend with mint and other herbs (pictured, half consumed lol). SO GOOD especially in the summer. The one thing that is keeping me from 5 stars is that the cafe does no have a public restroom, at all. People using the cafe have to go across the street to the municipal parking lot and use the port-a-johns in the lot. I thought that was kinda odd and could be really unpleasant and annoying when it's cold outside. It is a beautiful day today so I just walked over like it was no big deal, but if it was cold I could see it being irritating.
