We never thought we could even fit a pool in our yard but his rendering showed us how well we could utilize our awkward sloped yard. My contractor, Steve Hecker, was amazing. He handled everything from start to finish perfectly. I had a big job (50x12 pool, spa, waterfalls, lights, automatic walk on safety pool cover, baja shelf for toddler, retaining walls, and backyard turf). It was a lot of work, but everything was beautifully completed less than 3 months from the start. When you have a large project, issues inevitably come up, of course, but Steve handled everything promptly, graciously, and always with good humor. He was constantly here, overseeing everything and making sure it was all done correctly. The subcontractors he used were very competent, professional, and hardworking. Great pains were taken to assure safe construction, given that I'm close to the hillside. The county inspector pronounced everything perfect! Prices for all the different components were very reasonable, too. You can't do better than Steve! As if his work wasn't enough, he's a delightful person as well. We were overall very happy with their service. They were able to build this masterpiece in 2.5 months as promised. Any delays had to do with the shortage of supplies which is universal during the pandemic. He could work on better communication about the fine details (forgot to inform the cement workers to install the umbrella anchors, not letting us know that the tile trimming was extra). We just had our pool built! The Supervisor told me right away "you need to give us a few quick signatures to get the process started".... that's when I should've read the fine print! I signed to get the process going. The signature was saying that I understand there will be cracking in the concrete and have no problem with that. Cuz within a week of concrete being poured we started to get cracks spider webbed through out, I complained then they showed me what I signed! DOH!!! The new cheap tile they put in our pool is cracking, the skimmer concrete layers don't line up, the front of the skimmer looks like a 2yr old finished it off! The upper drain is cock-eyed. I told them about my issues and they told me I don't know anything about building a pool!... they're right but I know quality work and this isn't it. The supervisor knows nothing about pools, he's a fence builder!!! The owner knows how to sell pools but that's it. Customer service is nonexistent. He says ridiculous things, then is unaccountable and non responsive or blames something else Premier Pools is a franchise, not a pool builder. They sell franchises and designate a territory for that franchisee, telling the franchisee all they need to do is manage subcontractors. . If you live in that territory that's who you get, regardless of their ability or expertise . Apparently there is some training but professionalism and personal responsibility are not, apparently, guaranteed. Premier Pools will not be liable or accountable for the behaviour of the franchisee and his failure to supervise the work or understand the product. Building a pool is a scary proposition because it is an expensive undertaking, there is large machinery roaming on your property and it involves many subcontractors that you do not know, but hope will do their job. The task of interviewing pool contractors can be daunting; not knowing who to trust when constructing your pool. Like most people, we had 3 or 4 pool contractors come out. Rick was the least expensive and put the most effort into our estimate. A lot of the contractors just gave some half hearted estimate that made me think the estimate would change during the course of construction. With Rick, he created a computer generated 3D image of our pool and home, along with a very precise estimate. Now, a lot of people are of the belief that you don't go with the cheapest estimate or the most expensive, but in between. However, we had such a good feeling about the effort Rick put into the estimate that we felt we could trust him to do a good job on our pool, so we went with him and, boy, are we happy we did. We had a dedicated project manager, who kept the contractors on schedule, making the pool come together in a rather short period of time. When finished, the pool looked just like the 3D drawing and the estimate is what we paid. We are very happy that we went with Rick and we would highly recommend him to anybody. read more

This company should be called "Premier Fools". A complete disaster from practically day 1 for our pool build. LIST OF PROBLEMS WE SUFFERED THROUGH WITH "PREMIER FOOLS" - They went 2 months past contract finish date - Destroyed our lawn using it to clean out tools & driving a Bobcat over it (no offer to reseed lawn) - Broke our fence panel by dumping a mound of dirt on it - They Fired the project manager during our pool build - They once PISSED in the pool as it was being built (when we were at work) since the company is too cheap to get an Andy Gump on site for their workers. No joke, when the pool was just a giant dirt hole in the ground, rain came and filled the hole 1/5 of the way. So naturally the laborers just urinated on the rain water thinking it was going to just absorb into the ground. Unfortunately, my wife and I could smell it when we came home. UNREAL! - Poured concrete patio incorrectly, had to pay extra to get it fixed - Dumped trash and building materials in yard daily, didn't cleanup - Stole tools that I left in my yard - Ran over/sliced my hose - Splattered concrete all over house, windows and fence during concrete patio pour. - Shoddy job cutting spa circle and firepit circle (left several sawcut visible lines) - Had to make the actual pool smaller because of a design calculation error working around the AC unit. I wasn't offered a price reduction for this. - Left rebar exposed without safety caps during pool build. No safety border around pool opening to keep my kids/dogs from falling in and impaling themselves. - Left a HUGE pile of dirt in my driveway for well over a month that pissed off my HOA. - Didn't cleanup the MASSIVE amount of dirt spilled in my lawn during bobcat excavation. - After pool was plastered & filled with water there was a rust spot from rebar that was sticking through the pool bottom. Required draining the pool to fix. Which cost extra to refill the pool and was not offered money to help pay the extra charge. - AND MORE ... but I think you get the point. Couldn't be happier with our free form lagoon style pool!!!! Shopped around with a couple other contractors and although some estimates were less , I figured out they had many hidden fees.(ex. Have only approximations for running electrical and gas and extra cost per ft cost.) Premier pools proposal was very detailed and itemized. Steve's vision and 3D plans sealed the deal. Steve also gave me lots of valuable information and suggestions that were non bias (ex. Pros and cons of building a spa) and I'm glad I listened. After months of planning, we were really excited to get started on the construction of our pool. Several days before breaking ground, Rick Starsmere (owner of Premier Pools and Spas) introduced us to his newly hired construction supervisor who would be overseeing our project. We assumed since this would be his first job working for Premier Pools that Rick would have an active role in the progression of our pool. Unfortunately we were sadly mistaken. Rick was on our job site to deliver our plans and initial permits on day one and has never returned and that construction supervisor no longer works for Rick. Our job was problem riddled since day one. A few of the larger issues were: 1) the original coping needed to be torn out and replaced due to cracking 2) the baja deck was built 7 inches short of the 6' shown in the plans and had to be extended 3) the contract showed three lights and only two were installed 4) concrete coping was being saw cut inches from the edge of the pool immediately after the original acid wash when there was only a small amount of water in the pool. The concrete dust settled and adhered to the fresh plaster creating a halo around one of the drains and a cloudy appearance in the pebble finish. This issue resulted in acid being placed in the pool on four different occasions which hasn't completely resolved our halo but has now caused several white spots to appear in the pebble 5) the sheer descents didn't have the appropriate safety controls installed to avoid activation when the cover was closed 6) there are 3 drain covers in our pool and our plans showed 2. When we questioned Rick about this, he explained that the additional one was a hydrostatic valve the city required. Speaking to numerous pool contractors, we have been informed that the hydrostatic valve is typically placed in one of the other drains 7) the weather has finally warmed up and we had an opportunity to use our pool this past weekend. We had ordered a table to place in the umbrella sleeve on the baja deck and noticed that it seemed off center. Upon measuring, it is 66" from the center of the table to one side of the pool and 76" from the center of the table to the other side of the pool. The center of the pool is the joint in the coping as seen on the attached picture. All of these obvious deficiencies would have gone unnoticed by Premier Pools & Spas and would not have been addressed had we not insisted on them being corrected. We are still trying to get in touch with Rick to see how he will address the umbrella sleeve not being in the center of the pool. We had hoped to work all of these issues out with Rick rather than proceed with our pending complaint filed with the Contractors State License Board, however he is not responding to our communication so we are now moving forward with the CSLB. My wife and I finally decided to build a pool. Rather than risk an owner build, we decided to go with professionals. We are certainly glad we did! Mike is a top notch foreman and manager. He understands all the in's and out's of the build and has excellent communication skills. When taking on big projects like building a pool, you have to expect hiccups. Mike solved any and every problem expeditiously. The craftsmanship from the workers was excellent. If there was any conflict between the worker and homeowner, Mike would calmly solve it. Michael is such the professional that will go above and beyond. I would also like to give a shout out to Felix (one of the masons). His work with the Laramie stone coping was outstanding. My pool guy told me to contact this company and said they were good people. I needed an estimate to replaster our pool/spa. I have called the Valencia office 4 times and left messages with an answering service, since they don't even take their own phone calls. The 4th time I called I even told them "please let them know that this is the 4th time I've called and no one is returning my calls". She said she would give them the message immediately. They still have not contacted me. I guess they don't need new business. I will be advising my pool guy and hope that he stops referring this company to his customers. read more

Pool build started out strong with a committed project manager,  subs who showed up, followed through and then unfortunately we experienced many delays, damaged property and service started going downhill.  Kevin, the project manager indicated numerous times his workload was just too busy and he was trying his best to get things moving. Our project began experiencing delays due to other new builds being contracted. The masonry sub failed to show up numerous times.  He's alao indicated he won't show if he feels contractor and owner won't pay him. Owner Rick Starsmere has never been back here since he came to provide a pool build estimate.  We've had many issues and the pool is still not done. Pool filled November 26, 2020 and as of April 2021 its still not finished. Empty promises and poor customer service to resolve outstanding issues remain. During the dig, the team ruined our driveway with scratches and large gouges in the drive due to bulldozer. Our brand new vinyl fencing is scratched the entire perimeter, including a sizeable hole from rebar due to the  carelessness of the crew. Trash and debris was left in front of house for weeks. There is still concrete and rebar pieces laying behind pool where the team just left it for 7 MONTHS. We've placed over 50 requests via phone, text and email for completion and still nothing. The owner Rick finally replied to an email last week indicating he's sorry for our frustration and the masonry would be by Saturday. Yet again, he didn't show and we've requested someone else be sent to finish. We had to have someone else raise rains and properly must covers in line with coping. We've invested over $70k in our backyard remodel and this is so incredibly unfortunate.  We attempted one last time and no reply. There has been more than enough time for Premier to make this right. I really wish I could be leaving a different experience. Our pool was paid for in cash, filled Nov 2020 and spillway still not right.  Water flows over just not correctly and they don't care.  PM committed to having Mason fix only issue is he never shows up. For last 5 months it's been we are busy, too much work, I have to get approval blahblah blah. Owner has never been back here since the day he came last August 2020 to look at backyard to give estimate. Unfortunately, the BBB has many complaints. I had my pool built by Premier Pools about 10 years ago. I've had many issues over the years but don't like to give negative reviews. But today that changed. I just found out that my pool heater is broken and needs replaced. My home warranty company won't cover it because the gas meter is the wrong size to support it and the gas line was improperly installed and full of condensation. Rick at PP never contacted the Gas Co to have them come out and put the proper size gas meter to support the pool heater along with the rest of my appliances (news to me). Since the Gas Co does this service for free, the only excuse for him not taking care of this is either laziness or incompetence. I've also had major drainage issues under his concrete work for years as well. I spent a couple of thousand dollars a few years ago to partially fix some of these issues. Now I'm looking at having to spend a couple of thousand dollars more to fix another drainage issue. And the layout of the pool equipment makes no sense as well. When I need to physically access the pool heater to adjust the temp, I have to climb over equipment that should have been put in the back. I'm sure there are other problems I don't even know about. I'm just hoping that whatever I discover doesn't cost me several thousand dollars to repair like it has already for a new heater and the drainage issues I have. read more

I have mixed feelings about this company. The two guys who designed and oversaw the build were great but I felt their hands were tied. Most of the build was a fight trying to get the contractors to the job to do what I was told they were doing. Either way the job ended up being completed on time for my daughters birthday but there were so many issues. I've spend a good portion of my life in construction with a focus on concrete. When my concrete countertop, fire pit and deck were poured I had almost immediate cracks start to happen and was told that's normal, which it is not. I also had a chunk in the plaster in the deep end of my pool come up and when addressed I received no response. Also cracks start to form in ALL OF THE CONCRETE which I know is not normal because a friend of ours just had their pool redone. I reached out over and over with no response. And during the build when I was having issues with all the concrete the owner wanted no part and decided to not charge me for and additional 100 sq ft of concrete as a nice gesture. I told them that there's no rebar and barely and mesh screen on the deck, I also told them the dirt was never compacted and was told I was wrong. I have several pictures of no rebar or mesh on the deck but was told that's not a problem because the deck was compacted. Well fast forward to 14 months later and most of my coping and deck are cracked. This may seem small but the more water introduced the worse it's going to get and I cannot get a response. I spend close to $100k on my backyard and nothing. I have also recently found out that some of the people who did work on my job were unlicensed which may explain a lot. This company is not one I'd recommend nor should you put your trust in. read more

We have used many contractors since moving to the SCV to do various work on our house. When we decided to put in a pool we thought we had done our due diligence in finding the right contractor for the job. I am sad to say that we were wrong. The communication from Rick is poor at best. Most of his subcontractors do a great job with the work they do and that is really the only thing that made the job bearable. There are far too many details to go into in this review over what happened throughout the course of our job. I'm the neighbor of the where they're doing the project. The upsetting part is all the debris and garbage this company leaves behind. I've asked multiple times for them to clean everything up and move it more toward the house they're doing construction at, but it's been a few weeks of no success. Their trucks are always all over the place and the main road already doesn't have much space, so they block our driveway and the main road making hard to exit and come home. Randomly we have to clean our yard of coffee cups, water bottles, and other things cause they have no respect of the neighbors outside of their project area. There was a day where they had this cement truck kicking up all this dust and I asked one of the guys to clean it up a bit cause it caked all over my car and front yard, instead my car gets keyed and only half the driveway got some half-assed cleaning. I've taken so many photos of all this nonsense, just getting ready to get them reported to the BBB. There's nothing professional about how they've operated or behaved. read more

I really hate to write this review, but I have had enough. I love my pool, and the process having it built went well. Our issues began after our pool was built. First, we had a problem with the equipment leaking. Our pool was under warranty, and Premier Pools did fix it. Secondly, our pool plaster is currently very rough and has gotten every rougher. The kids have scraped their feet and hands. In fact, I had to buy them all swim shoes to keep their feet from getting scraped up. My spa is uncomfortable for me to sit in too, due to it being so rough. Third, my coping faded a lot, so I had to have it painted to look nice once again. Fourth, I have a pool light in my pool and spa. The pool light stopped working. We called, because our pool is still under warranty. A representative from Premier Pools came out to fix the light, but was unable to complete the installation. He said a plaster person would have to remove the light. He was unable to do it. Now, our troubles begin. Mike, the person who tried to help out with replacing the pool light said he would not be able to do it either. He said a plaster person had to complete the light installation. We never had any plaster person call us to set up an installation. We called Mike back, and left a message, but he never responded. So, we called Steve the person who sold us our Premier Pool from the beginning. Steve was with us through the total installation process of our pool. We explained to him everything we had gone through, and I told him Mike will no longer return our calls. He told us he would check into it. We have not heard from him in over a week, so we called again to check on the status. We had to leave a message for Steve, but he never returned our call. We are starting to believe there is something wrong with the plaster, which is why no one wants to remove the light for replacement. We have decided to have the pool inspected, since no one from Premier Pools will no longer respond to us. During our many calls, we were told that the pool plaster may have calcified, which should not happen this soon. The pool was built in 2016. The last message I left for Steve was that I would write a review on yelp, because of the awful customer service we have received. I am giving a "2" star review because the beginning process was fine, but I feel that if someone pays for a pool and spa installation, the follow-up and warranty process should also be smooth. It's a partnership that you are going to enter into with the contractor. This quote is all about keeping your cool when unavoidable challenges pop up and you have to come up with a solution. It's super easy to get angry and start placing blame. But that will not get your pool done any faster or make working with you incredibly joyful for the remainder of the project. The construction of our pool was, by far, the most problem riddled job I have ever known. Way too many issues to list on a review. Had I seen all of the negative comments on here prior to breaking ground I would have absolutely gone with a different business. We have tried unsuccessfully for the past several months to get in touch with Rick to settle our outstanding issues but he has ignored every message and phone call, so we were left with no other option than to report Premier Pools and Spas to the California State License Board. read more

This is a truly first class company. From the initial design to the construction phase, Rick knows his stuff and is nothing but professional, knowledgeable and patient. We have been delayed by weather many times over the past few months, but Rick has had his crews here working inbetween the storms to make sure our new pool stays on track. Hired Premier to install our pool in April 2017. Overall, we are satisfied with pool but unsatisfied with the customer service and effort it took on our end to get the project completed. The initial planning phase was fine and the computer imaging design program used in the planning is very helpful in visualizing what the end product will look like. Price was on a par level with competitors. The project was quoted to be completed in 2 months; it took 4 and some unpleasant discussions to get it done in that amount of time. Demolition, dig, and gunite phases were all knocked out very quickly. But the project came to a halt once stone work, concrete, and plaster phases began. There were a number of minor things that were damaged that Premier could have repaired fairly quickly for us at minimal costs, but chose to rely on contract exclusions instead (damage to concrete from BobCat traffic, damaged patio cover boots). We too had to work closely with sub contractors to keep things moving. The crew did a poor job of cleaning job site at end of day; we had a stack of concrete on our front lawn for weeks before I finally moved. I ultimately rented a dumpster and cleaned myself. Having said all that, 3 months post-completion, the pool is very nice and operating fine. From speaking with other pool owners, it sounds like this experience is common throughout the industry (Valencia Pools got the best feedback). If I had to do this over again, I would have insisted on a performance based contract, tying the contractor's pay to its adherence to the schedule. Also would remove language holding contractor harmless for minor damages during work. read more

Terrible customer service. I scheduled an appointment with Steve to come out to give us a quote for a built in spa. Our first appointment he had to cancel, which was fine. He asked to reschedule on 4/12 at 5. I told him I wouldn't be home until 5:30. He agreed to 5:30. At 5:10 I get a phone call from my daughter saying a man won't stop knocking on our door and it's making her feel very uncomfortable. It was Steve even though I told him I wouldn't be home until 5:30. I got home I showed him the back explained what we were wanting and everything out of his mouth was negative. He kept asking me if I knew how expensive it would be? Yes, I know how expensive they are. Obviously pools/spas aren't cheap. He was just rude all around. Anyways, as he was leaving he said he would have something drawn up for me in a couple days. It's now the 2 weeks later and I have not received an email or a phone call. Really terrible customer service. Would not ever recommend this company or Steve. read more

I decided to use Premier Pools and Spas after being referred to them by a friend. Rick and his team were wonderful to work with from beginning to end. Putting in a pool is a huge undertaking and Premier did a great job in walking us through the process step by step. We really felt taken care of by Rick. The project was done on time and any concerns we had were addressed quickly. There was always great communication and our pool and backyard turned out amazing!.
