I was in need of a birthday gift for a friend of mines. This place always seems to have some cool stuff and can't go wrong with anything! Upon walking inside it was only me and my friend inside, first impressions were that they have many local stuff and I love supporting my community! It can be a little on the on the high price but for the most part it's affordable. The only reason for the 3 stars: the girls in the front desk were kinda sour - very short ended responses. Cute shop with many local goods and gifts. The items ranged from clothes to whole bean coffee for sale. Seemed like they had many oils and sprays and even deodorant for body care, but not much for lotion, which I am used to seeing in shops like this. There is a sale rack in the back with mostly clothing. I received a warm welcome and had my questions answered without feeling like anyone was hovering over me. My teen daughter is obsessed with this store. She first discovered it during our Thanksgiving trip home last month. While I was across the street being shocked and dismayed by the prices at Sunbeam Vintage, she explored the area and found Prelude & Dawn. As a fan of one-of-a-kind vintage clothing and unique gifts (the nut does not fall far from the tree), she immediately caught the store's vibe. Prelude & Dawn is not a heavily-stocked shop. Rather, it feels like everything there is chosen and displayed with great care. They are about quality over quantity. The clothing is impressively immaculate. Whatever you buy can be worn out the door if you are so inclined. It will be clean, pressed, and nice-smelling. On each visit, my kid scored perfect 80s-90s jeans, and today she nabbed a cool 70s dress. The average price seems to be $44 per article. Definitely not thrift store pricing but sometimes it's nice to treat yourself to a pleasant shopping experience rather than have to paw through hundreds of crappy garments to find a hidden gem. Lovely little shop to get some last minute holiday shopping done this season. They're limiting capacity inside to four people at a time, enforcing masks and social distancing, and asking everyone to use hand sanitizer on the way in. I was in the area and there were only a couple people in the store when I walked by, so I popped in and was able to pick up a couple stocking stuffers I was needing. Prices are on the higher end, but for a locally owned small business with lots of high quality items, I think they're fair. They stock a lot of really trendy stuff like tapered candles in fun shapes, cool ceramics, bath/self care stuff, and more. The back section has cards, books, vintage clothes, and a good selection of Girlfriend Collective leggings and tops (which I actually think is kind of hard to find out in the world and not on the internet). Parking was easy at a meter nearby and there are a handful of really good coffee shops and restaurants on this stretch of Fig should you be needing food or caffeine. So glad I stopped in! read more

They are sourced from small businesses so it's cool to see the unique stuff they have. I know handmade and locally sourced goods have a higher price tag but I was sad I couldn't afford anything in this store. Would be cool if there were more affordable items for us broke fellas. I grabbed the cutest gingham lilac face mask and some hand sanitizer that smells like a dream on that visit. Honestly, I feel like I can always find so many unique, cool gifts and way too many things I want every time I pop in. Love the selection here from casual to date night/cool girl pieces. It's got the style of new clothes at better prices and you can feel good about purchasing vintage! All the garments are good quality, meaning they're clean and well taken care of, feeling almost new. The owner has a great eye and there's always a excellent mix of denim, tees, sweaters and dresses, not to mention gifts and stationary for just about anyone. The feel is very chill and neighborhood-y, and the pieces are priced really well. Denim is typically for non-Levi under $40 and same goes for dresses. They have a wonderfully curated selection of vintage, handmade linen pieces, books, pottery, bath and beauty products, apothecary, and more. I feel good spending my money here because the products are high quality, ethical, and made by independent, local artists. The owner is really great as well. Love this store in Highland Park! I go there every time I need a gift for a friend or for myself, lol. The prices are pretty good considering the quality of the items, the vintage/used clothes is in excellent condition, smells good, and really inexpensive. They also carry retail clothing- these are a little more on the pricey side, but its all organic linen and cotton, so you know you're buying sustainable, breathable, well made garments. When ever friends are visiting town, I always take them here. I wish I could stock my closet, vanity and house in general with all the stuff they carry. This store is amazing! read more

What a beautiful store! I went yesterday for the second time after getting a tip from one of my favorite potting duos. This place not only carries beautiful pottery from a few potters, but has many vintage clothing beautifully organized and curated. They also have amazing jewelry, natural soaps and fragrances and unique cards all reasonably priced. This is an amazing place to shop for last minute gifts, although you'll want everything for yourself! An added plus for me was the amazing customer service.
