I'm not sure how I missed this charming gift shop all these years. Located right on Silver Lake Blvd, this shop has a very beautifully curated collection. Some things of particular note: many books about interesting and obscure topics. This included a book about some of the esoteric societies involved in building the Los Angeles we know today. There is an excellent selection of really beautiful Japanese pottery, including some delightfully adorable tiny vases. Along with this there were an assortment of Japanese dolls, dainty jewelry and a lovely selection of cards. Pauline who was working behind the counter was very helpful and friendly as we chatted about the books on display. Prices might be a bit high, but I didn't feel like they were exorbitantly expensive. I used to love this store, but unfortunately, it's really deteriorated over the last few years. Their selection is nice, but overpriced. I'm okay with that occasionally, especially if I need something quick. But this means that I often visit OK when I want a nice gift for a friend. When my husband gifted me a ring from OK for my birthday, I was, of course, VERY excited. He knows how picky I am, though, so before I even opened the present, he assured me that he had double-checked with the salesperson and they had promised him that he would be able to return it if it didn't work out. Inside was a ring by Monica Castiglioni (the A-Pinot-05). To give a sense of the OK mark-up: on Castiglioni's website it is listed for €260 - equivalent to $283 - and it is sold by OK for $475. For that much money, I would expect the ring not to turn my finger green. But, unfortunately, after wearing it for less than 2 hours, it did. This is also something that my husband was concerned about and had asked the salesperson at OK about. She promised him that it would not turn my finger green, even though on Monica Castiglioni's website, it does state that her rings can turn your finger green. Salespeople should be more knowledgeable about their products (or look up the answer if they don't know!). We tried to return it the next day and were told that it could only be for store credit (this was not made clear to my husband when he bought the item). But why would I want to buy anything else from this store? Everything is extremely marked up, they don't know their products very well (and feel confident giving erroneous information about them), and they give misleading information about their return policy. Save your money and energy dealing with misinformed and unhelpful staff. Buy directly from the designers. read more

I accidentally stumbled upon this hidden gem getting my car checked up. A friend recommended me to the honest auto guys next door and I mindlessly paid for some services only to discover my dealership still had me covered. Despite the avoidable expenses, it was definitely worth running into this INCREDIBLE gift shop! My appointment was early and none of the shops in the area were opened yet so I strolled around the neighborhood, got some coffee and pastries and finally they opened their doors just in time for me to pick up my car. Alright, where do I begin? I just thought I'd be killing time window shopping at these cute boutiques but I walked out with a stack of cards, new coasters that I didn't need, a Looper toy for a kid and two bracelets for myself. Talk about selfish and impulsive. No, not really! They just had such an irresistible selection of cool things that I had never seen anywhere. I'm like the type of person that takes a year to decide on a single purchase and need a lot of reassurance before bringing anything into my home but I felt certain I needed every thing I purchased! I came back right before my trip and picked up a few things for my sister who was about to give birth and legitimately did not have to go anywhere else outside of Saks for some baby clothes she bought that didn't fit. If you're looking for a super duper unique, one-of-a-kind, gift shop with well thought out selection, this is your joint. It's OK to take care of yourself sometimes as long as you share the love with others! Can't forget to mention : AMAZING selection of cards and Kaylin is always so helpful with her recommendations - she really knows their inventory, is super sweet and always has the raddest sneakers. A extremely cute store with delightful inventory, yes. Most of your Silver Lake gift boutique expectations will be met, though the shop minder was rude and dismissive when my boyfriend asked whether it was possible for her to retype the words on a stationery card that was being used as a gift card. The electric typewriter isn't calibrated to type straight lines, you see, and the next six cards would end up the same exact way, you see, and that was the very last card in stock anyway, you see. She threw in a 'sorry' but didn't seem to care or understand why someone purchasing a $60 gift card would at least hope that the words could be printed straight. Kindness and cuteness can go hand-in-hand, guys. They're not mutually exclusive. read more

I have been in OK Silverlake twice in the last three weeks due to the extensive Comme des Garcons leather goods collection. Both times Brendan, the manager, has greeted me with much knowledge and enthusiasm regarding the product line and other store goods. Due to his warm energy and ability to engage his clientele, this has become my go to for gifts and personal splurges. Somehow this space manages to maintain a homey appeal while curating some of the most original jewelry and home goods on the market. I just witnessed a rude and unfortunate exchange between the store owner and some customers. I stopped in here to purchase a gift for my friend's bridal shower. The selection of home goods is quite lovely. I wish I could have all of them in my house. While I was making my final decision, a couple walked in with smiles on their faces. I guess they left their child outside because the store owner immediately said something to the effect of, please don't let your kids play in the water fountains. As the couple turned to leave, the owner shouted "this isn't a waterpark" and then walked out after them whiched started s big argument on the sidewalk. Lots of shouting and "lady, you got a bad attitude"she And as I'm trying to pay for my friends gift, the person behind the register excused themself and joined the argument on the street. It was at that moment, I realized I really didn't want to support this business. The whole thing left a horrible taste in my mouth and I wish to never go back. So congratulations you just lost three customers over a little water on your front entrance. There's just no room in my budget for self entitled, pretentious business owners that treat potential customers like crap. read more
