The service is usually quite good, although we have had a couple of misses. The old house is beautiful and creates a great atmosphere, but it could use a refresh in some areas - for example, the carpet and restrooms are worn and dated. This last visit was with friends, and we arrived on the late side without reservations but were greeted with smiles and never rushed. We had sautéed crab claws to start, which are served in a sauce similar to New Orleans style barbeque shrimp. They were large and tender, and the sauce was great for bread dipping. We ordered seafood pasta (sorry, no photo), chicken Parmesan, veal osso bucco, and paneed veal. All were delicious and perfectly cooked, served hot and fresh. Portions are generous - I had lunch for another day. We were too full for dessert, but there will be a next time!

This is a top-notch local seafood restaurant, and long time favorite. When I say "long-term", I'm almost 82 & have been a customer for over 65 years, since coming with my parents in the 1950's. I know of no other restaurant anywhere with that record of excellence & consistent performance. The specialty is Louisiana Atlantic blue crab, and in that genre, Riverside has no real peers. Yes, they offer a wider array including local crawfish, shrimp, & oysters; plus cold water lobsters & steaks. But our crab is delicate & must be handled with expertise. Riverside does that better than I could at home on the Teche. Secluded off street lot parking, swamp-ish theme landscaped grounds, locals bar, professional waitstaff. If unfamiliar w/ area, use your phone for directions. One can't go wrong here. 5+ Stars from me, every time. Don't stop until you get here ! Caveat, may be closed Sundays & Mondays, call first. Rick

As I am someone who was in the restaurant when it happened…read more I just think it's funny how you aren't mentioning y'all came in as 6 people and then wanted accommodations for 30 people during one of the busiest times of the night. Or that they argued with the amazing manager for nearly an hour total after being told they couldn't accommodate that size party. They're also leaving out the part where people from their group marched in and seated themselves, stood over occupied tables waiting for guests to leave, insisting the hosts clean the tables, and made the entire restaurant uncomfortable. This had nothing to do with race and everything to do with behavior. Any group acting like that would've gotten the exact same response. In short, do better. Y'all came in and ruined everyone's dinner because y'all don't know how to plan ahead. Stop blaming people for your mistakes and take accountability.

This restaurant is known for their crawfish unfortunately I visited for a weekday lunch and they…read morewere posting a sign on the doors after I had walked in stating they don't serve crawfish until 4pm weekdays, 3pm on weekends. This may have been part of the reason its wasn't all that busy on a Tuesday lunch. Similar to some other restaurants in Louisiana I've visited, they have a side with a bar, to-go area and high tops, and a more family oriented side of the restaurant with a bunch of low top tables. Fried pork rinds are served with every table. They have daily plate lunches and the one day I came it was chicken fried steak. However, it's not usually a good idea to order CFS outside of Texas in my experience. Therefore, I ended up ordering the catfish and shrimp platter, served grilled instead and added a $5 strawberry margarita. The entree comes with a side salad but they only have seelct dressings and none which I would typically order, so i just settled on honey mustard. Margarita- for only $5 it's not bad and comes with either sugar or salt rim Catfish and shrimp platter - seasoned with a blackened seasoning but it wasn't spicy. The catfish filet was small and tasted like it was previously frozen. The shrimp were also small and didn't taste much better. Not sure I'd return if ever in Lafayette, as I was really looking for a more festive environment and more grilled options.

He recommended several local brews and food options, and somehow we ended up having one of those conversations that makes you feel like you've known someone longer than five minutes. We talked about traveling, different beers, Louisiana, Ohio, Atlanta, and everything in between. My favorite part of the conversation had to be hearing about the brewery owned by three Japanese women who live in Brazil. That's a story I definitely wasn't expecting when I sat down for a drink! As for the food, it was incredible. I had the seafood gumbo, which came loaded with a crab cluster and crawfish tails, and I also tried the blackened alligator. Both were amazing and full of flavor. The atmosphere was great, the beer selection was excellent, and the service made the whole experience even better. I genuinely can't wait to go back to The Chime! If you're in the area, definitely give this place a try. 6/5 from me!
