    So I run a catering business in DC and our garbage disposal stopped working. As a somewhat…read moreexperienced kitchen person, I found the reset button on the side and pressed it, held it for 15 seconds (as the online manual instructs), and released it. It still would not start. I cleared out the disposal, manually turned the grind plate, and tried again. It still would not start. I called EMR to repair it and they said a tech would be out the next day. He never arrived. I called the third day to inquire about it and was told he would be there in a hour. 3 hours later he arrived. He came in, pushed the button really hard, it clicked into place, he hit the start button and it whirred right up. He laughed, I sheepishly laughed, and he said "I see this all the time, I'm not ever going to right up a ticket, don't worry about it". I thought, great customer service, they know I will need tech help in the future and are being forward thinking. Well three days later I receive an invoice for $140 for the 'service'. The kicker is that the invoice included the work sheet and it listed that 'the owner refused to sign or pay'. The tech never offered me a piece of paper to sign, much less want to take payment. I called in and the owner (I can only assume) proceeded to tell me that I am a liar, that the tech would never lie about payment or a customer refusing to sign, etc etc etc. Then she threatened that if I did not pay she would send the police. I pointed out that the police don't do that and was told that "as a liar, she wasn't going to listen to me'. If your equipment is literally falling apart and you need service, call anyone but these people. Criminals.

Maybe having the big cheese there was the reason or maybe my unhappy voice messages made their rounds and everyone knew, anyhow - the result was a good one. I had a video and pictures showing my stuff in the unit and the staff realized what happened right away. The reason my locks were cut and replaced is because the employee who checked me in, keyed in the incorrect unit number. The double locks were cut off and I was able to get my stuff just fine. All and all, at least the problem was handled and I was treated with smiles and professionalism. ORIGINAL REVIEW 2/23/2023 Absolutely horrified! Started the service on December 2022, paid $99 for January (there was a set up fee of some sort which I got hit with there), paid $55 monthly fee for February and I go to my unit to retrieve somethings and my lock has been changed! Without even a word. DO NOT USE THIS PLACE! All the google reviews have to fakes because it took the employee 2 hours to check me in on December 2022. 2 hours...while she was trying to remember her password, then entering my info. Now my lock has changed, they have slapped 2 locks on my unit and I do not even know if my stuff is still inside. Save yourself the trouble, look elsewhere. Now I have to drive there in the morning and hope that my items are there! I did buy insurance, but knowing these folks, that is a fake out too.

I've recently,…read moremoved out in December 2024 and in the 11.5 years that I've been there, they have continually raised the rates and not made any renovations or improvements to the facility. Mice have been running amok for years. Why didn't I leave? It was mostly my girlfriend's things there and she lived within walking distance, so it was easy for her to get them. A few years ago, I think they were repairing the roof, but a bunch of white paint chips and/or spackle fell into my unit and it covered everything in our unit. They did offer to vacuum the chips from the unit. But I needed to be there to open it which was difficult to leave my job at the time. I asked for money off of the rent for one month and was told they couldn't do it. I think this was a Customer Service failure. In the end, I spent 2 hours cleaning it myself. When my rate went up to almost $300 per month, I moved to a smaller unit so the rate would go below $170 per. About a year later, the rate was up to $200 per. Last year when the rent was above $300, I went on the internet to get a lower rate, but was told by the location's staff that the internet rate was only for new customers, but it didn't state that on the internet offer. I just felt they didn't care at all for me, a loyal customer. My guess is that the Wash DC market has a high storage demand, thus higher rental rates. So, last September I found these rates are simply unaffordable. After telling my girlfriend, she moved her things into another family member's unit and now I'm completely done with the unit. I'll never go back to this facility.
