Live Oak Brewing Company is one of Austin's oldest breweries, best known for traditional German and…read moreCzech style lagers, especially its hefeweizen, pilsner, and seasonal lagers using old world brewing techniques. Founded in 1997 by Chip McElroy, Live Oak was built with a simple idea "make beer for people who actually like the taste of beer." In 2015, Live Oak moved to their current location on a beautiful property along the Colorado River, opening a taproom and biergarten. One its unique features...it's off the beaten path of other breweries. Live Oak Brewing is north of the airport and backs to the Fast Park remote airport parking lot. At first glance it looks like it's a convergence of a fire station and deserted manufacturing plant. The grounds are impeccable...tall statuesque trees, lush green vegetation and an extensive outside biergarten. It feels like you are in a nature bubble. Interestingly, Live Oak Brewing has its own on site 18 hole disc golf course (different from traditional golf) located directly on the brewery's property. Live Oak Brewing's interior has the feel of a German Hofbräu...homey, spacious, and welcoming, with long communal tables that encourage conversation and human interaction. You can see directly into the brewing space, with large tanks and equipment. Also, board games are available if you choose to play. Live Oak is family friendly and dog friendly. In fact, Groot, the owner's dog, freely roams through the brewery drinking area. While I only had sips of beer (not a big beer drinker), my friends enjoyed their beers. Live Oak Brewery Company is a super fun place to hang out.

The atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed, and you can tell they take pride in both their beer and customer experience. Everything we sampled was fantastic, with plenty of great options for different tastes. Such a great vibe overall, and we can't wait to come back again!

I won a burger on National Burger Day so the next day I went to check it in the app to see if it…read morehas shown up and it did, but listed zero terms and limitations so I clicked on it and just like a bomb, a 60 minute timer started. YIKES! Suddenly the burger I was going to save for the following week during happy hour to also get fries and a drink needed to be redeemed immediately. I rushed to the bar and sat down and had planned to get a beer and eat there but was then asked by Yoselin if I wanted it to go. Sure! I'm broke at the moment so I'd rather eat at home...I was told I could get any burger, which I assumed just meant the top "Burger" section and not the premium section. So I got the Double Bacon Jam burger and waited with a glass of water. Great burger as usual and thanks for making it free. Especially since I couldn't get to the event on 5th Street for a free burger on the plaza....

You ever sit there craving a burger and not a smash burger. A thick juicy burger. I do to. There…read moreare just some problems. I'll start with the good! The queso is like my favorite in Austin. Seriously good. But the fries are either wayyyy too salty or not salted at all. There is no in between. The burger - it has all the potential. When I get it with the lettuce wrap or on a salad, it's great! However, in a bun? No thank you. I'm not sure how, but no matter what, the bun will be soggy. I've even ordered it with no sauce to see if that helps, it does not. That's just one soggy bun! I wish it was just that, but the patty itself is also always over salted. Every time I've ever ordered. You may ask why do I continue to try? Well I forget in between orders and do it anyway because I am craving that queso and a burger seems cool too! Then I remember. Also so little places nowadays sell anything other than a smash burger... so, wishful thinking?
