It is surrounded on all sides by new apartments and businesses and a car dealership. Fortunately a landscaping company has been overseeing the conditions and there are many old growth live oaks providing much shade. There is a short driveway on which to park on, but no road running through it and it is surrounded by a 4 foot perimeter fence. The cemetery is about an acre, perhaps larger in size. The majority of the graves found here date from the late 1800s and the newest ones I could find was a WW1 sevice member buried here in 1975. There was also another WWII service member buried here in 1993 whose picture is included in this review. Some of these gravemarkers actually tell some interesting stories as are pictured below in the review. There are freed slaves and American native Indians buried here. And like a lot of cemeteries from this time period, there are several infants and young children found interred here. Boatright is a recognizable historicle name found here and more Boatrights can be found at the Oak Grove cemetery 5 miles away on Spicewood Springs Rd. There is a small rocky memorial wall which is dedicated to all the lost and unidentifiable graves. Judging by the lack of any burials past the 1990s, I think it's safe to assume this is no longer an active cemetery. If you enjoy walking through old cemeteries, this landmark should be added to your list.

Though it is next to the road it still sits on private property. If you try to go past the gate on the property you will set off an alarm. There does not appear to be any new graves nor a lot of room for new residents either.

This cemetery was obviously established back in the late 1800s because today it sits on some very…read morevaluable real estate. In other words, when this graveyard was established, I 35 was probably a two lane dirt road with horse and buggies going back and forth. Today it literally sits on the northbound feeder road of I 35 and the corner of Dean Keeton with thousands of cars rushing by. It has two points of entry along the feeder road with a gravel road running through the middle of the cemetery linking both of them. It is at least 3 to 5 acres in size and there are hundreds of headstones. Much of the cemetery is organized into family plots with their surrounding borders. The cemetery could use some work, as the grass was unmowed, the trees looked really scraggly, the entrance gate was broken off and there were a number of toppled headstones. There are quite a number of graves from the late 1800s, but the majority are from the early 20th century. I spotted quite a number of woodmen of the world headstones, which are quite common in this area. There may be some notable names interred here, but I did not spot any. There are a handful of graves that have been visited in the last few months, but it's quite clear that many have long since been forgotten. I did spot a few graves from the early 2000s up to 2019, but nothing from the last year or two. Plenty of photos included to peak your interest.

The cemetery is quite large as it sits on 99 acres. It does have a small parking lot for about a dozen cars and porta potties. If you qualify for a Travis county burial, you are entitled to a 20 minute service for a group of up to 20 people. They do offer a 9:30 am and an 11:30 am service time. Travis county has two such cemeteries, this being the largest one. At this point in time, there's only a few hundred burials here, and there is a section set aside for infants and children. The graves are laid out with concrete borders with name plates on the border itself, but you can erect your own small head stone should you choose. First time visit to Evergreen Cemetery…read more Travis Audubon and Austin Parks & Recreation scheduled a group event here, birding and exploring one of Austin's historic cemeteries. Established in 1926 as a public cemetery to serve the African American communities of Travis County, this place is also home to mature live oaks, pecans and cedar elms, and is flanked by woodlands that support a nice variety of birds. It's always nice to learn a bit more about the city one lives in, and of the people who helped make Austin what is is today.

It is located at Airport Boulevard and 12th St. Many of the people buried here were born in the 1800s. This site would've been just on the outskirts of Austin back in the day, but of course it is surrounded on all sides by urbanization today. This is a nicely manicured and well cared for graveyard with a couple of port-a-pottys on site. You could easily spend an entire day here reading names. You can find graves that date from the 1800s all the way to the present day including many military service members. There is probably about a mile worth of roadway winding through cemetery. I drove through the entire graveyard but I never found a place where you could find a comprehensive listing of all those interred here. One other thing I was surprised not to find was a Texas historical sign that would've had some good historical information concerning the cemetery. I'm quite certain there are some very influential people from Austin's history buried within the confines. There are some posted scan codes throughout the cemetery that do give some historical insights . This is definitely one of the nicest graveyards within the Austin area. Check out the photos below.

I spotted the cemetery on Google maps and decided to review it in hopes that it would also be included in the Google maps description, which Yelp helps to facilitate. There are many recent graves here and there are some who are reinterred here due to the building of Mansfield Dam nearby. There are graves that go back to the early 20th century and as recently as 2023. This looks to be an active cemetery with additional space for more. Towards the rear of the property, you'll find family plots with the names of Tounguegate and Hudson and others. There are several service members buried here and many graves are covered in pea gravel. The grounds are pretty much overgrown with weeds, and the grave sites are for the most part aligned, but there is some randomness. There are no amenities here nor is there a Texas historical sign denoting anyone of note. Some graves show signs of visitation, but not all of them.

I've driven down Lamar Boulevard thousands of times and I never knew this graveyard sat just a few…read morehundred feet from the road. It sits directly behind the walnut creek Baptist church on top of a hill. There are graves that date as far back to the 1880s, but most are from the 20th century and newer. It is a well-maintained and manicured cemetery with a road that allows you to drive into it. The most notable names I saw in numbers here were Gault and Neans. To a lesser extent there was also Morrow and Sweet. I did not find a Texas historical marker nor did I see anywhere that had a full listing of those interred here. It's possible the church next to the graveyard may well have that information. The cemetery appears to have almost reached near capacity, but there's still a little space left for future residents. The road that leads to the cemetery entrance is run down with some homeless encampments along it. There are about six parking spaces and you can actually drive into the cemetery itself. The one thing that I noticed that was conspicuously absent was a Texas historical sign which you would normally see at older graveyards like this. The cemetery would've been located on the outskirts of Austin in the 1800s, but is of course now surrounded by urban growth. There are quite a number of graves from the 1800s but there are recent burials as well. It is relatively well-maintained and there was even an information booth explaining who is buried where. This cemetery appears to be about 5 acres in size and has hundreds of graves. Many of the graves are from the turn of the 20th century or before, but there are a handful of newer ones. I did find a couple of graves from 2020. Despite looking pretty full, it appears there is still room for those who would like to be interred here. Plenty of pictures below with more information.
