A simple cremation, and we would handle any gathering for friends at our home after the pandemic was over (my father died from a fall, not COVID). When my mother passed at Baylor Scott & White in Lakeway, the doctor at the hospital gave us a list of local funeral homes, and we chose to deal directly with a crematorium, which was quite affordable (around $650) because it didn't include any other services. My father's assisted living or emergency services must have called WCF, but we weren't given the opportunity to make that choice ourselves...it cost quite a bit more than we were expecting, but I understand the price difference is because they offer more personalized services and a nicer facility if you were going to have a gathering or a viewing. I was very new to all of this, and had only experienced going directly to a crematorium; my father understood that when the time came, we would just do what we did with my grandmothers, my brother, and my mother. We're not very formal people, so a traditional funeral would have been out of place. The staff at WCF was very nice, and since we were in the middle of COVID, we couldn't meet with them in person, so everything was done over Webex or Zoom. I wish we'd had the opportunity to do that in person.

My wife and I have finally reached that age where we feel it's time to look for that forever home…read more The remembrance gardens is a place where you can have your ashes interred for a lot less money than "for profit" businesses, and it qualifies as a tax deduction since it is tied to the church. Just to clarify, there are no bodily burials here, strictly cremated ones (you can even add your cremated pet). The memorial gardens are beautifully sculpted into the sloping hillside and includes a gravely trail behind it that runs by a creek. I noticed that along the creek trail there appeared to be additional interments along the path. This short path eventually dead ends into a hillside where you have to turn around and go back. Most people opt for the white limestone marker, but you can also get granite as well. One thing that became apparent is that there does not seem to be many open spaces left (the good news is that they are adding more). You'll find an above ground mausoleum on site as well. There is an office at the main entrance for more detailed information, but it's best to make an appointment since it is not always manned, especially during the lunch hour. You can check out their website where you can find more information. The 10 photos and videos included don't fully capture the scope of this place.

Cook Walden Chapel of the Hills was extraordinary, so extra loving and understanding and exactly what our family needed when my father passed. I cannot say enough kind words about this wonderful place when you are hurting so much. I'd like to thank Ashley, our main contact. Her love and compassion will never be forgotten. She has such a special gift. The world needs more Ashley's! I'd like to also thank Brianna, Lauren and Kaitlan, without all of your help, love, patience and compassion, I'm not sure we could have gotten through this without all of you by our sides. Cook-Waldon will forever have a special place in the Staniszewski families heart! Thank you! April

The chapel isn't setup with your typical church pews. It was arranged more like a wedding reception. After the eulogy was done we were offered a refreshments bar with sandwiches, snack trays and drinks. Unfortunately, times of loss can bring out the worst in some people and they don't always choose to be respectful of others and decided to make the day about their drama and take away from others' abilities to show their respects to the deceased. Well let me tell you, this place has got you covered. They have protocols in place just for that type of situation. We knew going into a recent service that one of the guests was likely to have unpleasant outbursts. There were uniformed police officers in the corners of the rooms without being a distraction. Because the funeral directors were aware of this risk, I'm happy to say that the service was conducted peacefully and we were able to make the day about what it should have been, a time to mourn our loved one and be there to support the family, not be on edge waiting for unnecessary drama to unfold. Everyone working here truly conducted themselves with class.
