I finally received an email of a quote that was way over what I could have possibly imagined. no one ever came out for an inspection which is standard practice. We recently had our cedar shake roof replaced with Tamko architectural vintage asphalt shingles by Prate. I had gotten 5 quotes and they were the lowest, but also the most thorough. Michael Prate came out himself and walked me through the job. We had used them before to replace a hail-damaged shake roof about 20 years ago and they did a fine job. When we decided to remove the shake because of age and insurance issues. (No insurance company is happy with shakes), The crew arrived on time (early) every day. They were very professional and courteous. Carlos was the lead and he was super. He even went above and beyond by taking down our old satellite dish and even was willing to wash our two skylights. Art was the clean-up man and he literally filled a huge dumpster and another smaller one with our roof debris, by himself. What a guy. Every night they cleaned up like they were finished and not coming back. The job took three days but it looks great. They sent an inspector out to check the job the following day. This review is based solely on customer service. My wife and I both contacted Prate several times to get someone to come out and inspect our roof, which was leaking after a storm. They told us repeatedly that someone would contact us...and no one ever has, two weeks later. We literally live across the street from them. We don't expect someone to stop by instantly, of course, as the business is busy. However, we would expect someone to call and perhaps set up a time in the future. This is basic service, which we did not receive. Our roof will need replacing, and we will not be asking Prate for an estimate. My concern is, if they can't even get someone out to look at it, how would they get someone out to fix it if there are any issues with the installation? Reliability and prompt service are pretty important. read more

Prate Roofing and Installations was extremely easy to work with. I took a number quotes from other companies and my "gut" told me this company was the one to chose. They were not the least expensive but the contract was detailed that covered everything i needed including the cost of the permit. I requested a couple of additions to the contract and they were added without contest. The job quality was terrific- no problems and cleanup was impecable. I have used Prate for many years, and every time they provided high-rate service with good quality at an affordable price. A few years ago they replaced my old rubber vent boots with lead boots at good price with good quality. They also inspected and repaired my roof and installed an attic fan several years ago at very affordable price. Now they replaced my damaged ridge vent and repaired some flashing, and it was done very well and at low price. Their owner, Michael Prate, took very good care of my roof, and John and Pat installed the ridge and showed and explained everything very well. Prate replaced my roof in 2015 due to defective shingles. They were quick, responsive, and very helpful as we had to submit samples to the manufacturer. They were so efficient, I requested a quote for some gutter work, which I received. I signed off on the quote and sent it back, and waited for them to schedule the work. And waited. And called them. And waited. Here we are, 3 years later, and Michael Prate has never bothered to return my call. They do great work when they want, but I won't ever give them the opportunity again. read more

Prate Roofing to the rescue! I recently moved into a new home. My homeowners insurance company stopped by my home, took pictures of my cedar shake roof and determined that if I didn't get some repairs done immediately, they would completely drop my coverage within 60 days. Cedar shake roofs can only be worked on if there is no ice or moisture on them at all and it was already mid November when the insurance company gave me the ultimatum. I called 7 roofing companies for help. Some didn't return my call, others said they wouldn't be able to do the work until the spring, others said they would come over and give me estimates and then didn't. Then I called Prate, who was recommended by a neighbor. The first person that I spoke with on the phone, Tara, understood my situation and wanted to help me. She did her best to get me an estimate quickly which was not easy because the weather was bad. Michael Prate came out himself to do the estimate. It was a small job and he gave me a very reasonable quote to do the work. He could have overcharged me because I was desperate but he didn't. He could have blown me off because it was a small job but he didn't. They sent out two roofers to do the job on the first and only sunny dry day that came up. I felt that they really cared about helping me and did an excellent job for an excellent price. In a few years when I need to entirely replace my roof, I will definitely call Prate to do the job! read more
