After being scammed by Chicago Flat Roof, I called Peterson to see if they could come assess and fix the leak the other company failed to handle for over two years. They came out and immediately found potential leak spots that Chicago Flat Roof missed in the multiple times they came out. While it did take them two trips out to find the leak, they found it and sealed it. We're now leak free!!!! I am a long time customer of Peterson Roof, in Mt Prospect. Have had the roof replaced twice, along with leak repairs, and other work over the past 32 years. The history why I have a trust with the company. My latest project was new soffits, gutters and guards. I am very happy that I do not expect to climb the ladders and the soffits are now venting the attic properly. My home now has a much better curb appeal. However, the experience was not like I had in the past. I am very disappointed. Surprise: the next day after 8:00 a sub-contractors van shows up. They are wearing shirts with another firm's name on the back. The worker has a printout with instructions and tells me there in nothing about replacing the freeze boards. The quote was based upon a sales meeting and his instructions. Based upon my past with Peterson I expected the quote was complete. Apparently, they stopped doing clear all inclusive pricing. Sloppy work and left my yard filthy with dozens of nails, aluminum piece, scrap wood insulation all over the yard and deck. I'll be looking for, and picking up the mess over the next few weeks. The use of tarps would have reduced the mess. I had a the roof replaced by Phoenix Exteriors a few weeks earlier and only found three nails near the downspouts. When I pointed out a couple of sloppy points, my home was blamed: "older house is not straight". Flashing with bubbles, and gaps where the strips tuck. The issues show up on the new "freeze boards." Not confident if the boards were put on straight. Taking advantage of elderly customers is not successful business practice. Scheduling: I had to call the office to get on the schedule. I was told Sept, 30, no one showed up. Two days later I called back and transferred to a manager. He seemed surprised and told me he would get back that afternoon. 20 days later I get a call: they are coming out the next day - 7:30 am. Lack of and poor communication is fixable. Peterson had an opportunity keep a returning customer. These issues point to a change in work ethic and can be fixed with a little effort. It's disappointing to see another local business get sloppy. read more

Our contact was Cathy, and she was great about answering all our questions and was really patient while we made our decision. They weren't the least expensive option, but between the longevity and reputation of the company, Cathy's helpfulness, and all the detailed information on the printed quote about what shingles, vents, and other supplies they would use, and what extra steps the crew would take to do the job right, we had the most confidence in them. In spite of other good reviews I had a bad experience with Peterson. Step 1. I called the office to arrange for getting an estimate. The woman intended to send a man out at their convenience. I said that I needed to be on hand to talk to the man. This put her off; their SOP is to do the inspection and proposal without even meeting the customer. I explained that this was unacceptable to me. She seemed put out, but made an appointment for the man to see me 2 weeks later. OK. Step 2. The estimator arrived. He was rude, insulting, impatient, and sarcastic. It was unbelievable. I nearly pulled the plug on the whole thing. Step 3. I received the proposal from the estimator by email. Overall it was alright but there were some "extras" I wanted to discuss and maybe eliminate. I called the office woman. I explained I didn't want this or that, or there were things I just didn't understand. She tried to discuss it, but quickly became very impatient with me. Her final words were: "Peterson has been doing roofing for 40yrs, if you think you know better then do it yourself. Or hire some other company". She hung up. Basically, it was take it or leave it. We had a smallish job - our sunroom needed a new roof. It was very difficult to get anyone to come out, give us a quote and get back to us with a date. Until we called Peterson Roofing. Based on some recommendations we saw online, we put a call into Peterson. What happened next was surprising! They returned our call, set up an appointment to give us an estimate... and kept every commitment they made. They came exactly when they said they would, did the job exactly as they described it to us, and charged us exactly what they told us they would. They were competitive in their pricing and it was a fair price. And they cleaned up after themselves and did an excellent job. There is a saying out there about really knowing if a company is good when issues arise. We hired Peterson to complete a roof replacement on a shopping center in Mt Prospect a few years ago. We got three quotes and they were the most expensive. You get what you pay for. We had a few minor issues post roof replacement. Peterson sent someone out to remedy the situation within the hour on all occasions. We are currently completing a roof replacement on another shopping center with another company. It's places like this that make me glad that Yelp exists. I called their services based on reviews from Yelp and boy I was not disappointed. They were super easy to work with, did a quality job, and their pricing was really affordable. UPDATED - this was originally a 5/5 star rating. This was before I discovered 12-13 nails on my driveway left behind from them. I got a hole in my tire from the nails left all over my driveway. The actual work was quality by these guys. I am stunned with the service I received today. Scheduled an estimate for a roof repair job, very minor from the storm in August. I was greeted by a service guy wearing a mask, on time even early I think, he went about his business took care of the problem right then and there! I was so happy. As I'm told it is 4-6 weeks after an estimate to get repairs done as so much damage has occurred in the area. I randomly chose them, as the place I usually deal with had been difficult to work with. Very happy with my choice I hope to not have to do business with them soon, but if I have to they will be my first choice! read more

I had issues with roof leaks in two different areas. I called Peterson inquiring about repairs, and someone came out to look at it. He pointed out several issues, some of them due to improper work by the builders and previous roofers. When I asked about replacing the whole roof, he said that someone else does those estimates. Meanwhile, I had other companies out to give estimates. They ranged from $8500 for simple tear-off and new shingles, to $43,000 for roof, gutters, and ventilation system (not including necessary sheet-metal work). The Peterson estimator identified and addressed all ventilation issues, gutters, and sheet-metal work, and came in at under $20,000. A bigger chunk of money than I had planned, but the company seemed to have integrity, knowledge, and all the resources and teamwork necessary for the job. They were prompt, professional, neat, and did (as far as I can tell) great work. I am very pleased, and have recommended them to my friends. read more

Ok. Where to start? My wife and I had been talking about a new roof since 2018, it has been 20 + years since we had it replaced after we had moved in. In the fall a big national company came walking around offering free quotes as they were doing work in the neighborhood. We got the quote and told him we were not planning to have the roof done till the following fall and the price was a bit outrageous (30K worth for everything) roof, gutters, facial, insulation, telling us our insulation was not up to the current code if we were to sell the house (which was true). He did come down to $20K and said the price would be good for 12 months. My house is 1000sq, foot ranch and I thought that was still to high price. Fast forward to spring of 2019 we had cold temps rain and wind for most of April into May. I came home from work and shingles had been blown up in the back of my house, luckily I was able to tack them down. A local handy man doing work 2 doors away herd I needed a roof and walked over and shot from the hip a price of $11k without even getting a ladder, he said he knows how much this type of house will cost. At this point we had already decided to call Peterson Roofing for a quote along with a few other big companies. The next day we saw our neighbor across the street having their roof done by Peterson. The crew worked hard all day and didn't get done cleaning up till way after dark. They had a few quotes too and like Peterson the best and was happy. We had the salesman out a few days later, he grabbed his ladder walked and measured the roof, went in the attic looked around, and took temperature readings. He came down asked us our thoughts and what we wanted done, then he went over his recommendations, told us we need more ventilation as it was to warm up there and definitely need more insulation as well. Our house has no eves and I had seen other types of low roof venting, I said I was concerned about snow covering those up and they wouldn't work. He told me I was absolutely correct and they don't use those types of vents and they have a product made special for them that vents behind the gutter keeping the entire roof cool. He then went to his truck and typed out a quote listing everything out individually. I'm thinking another 30k. WOW! was I surprised, the quote was less than half that. We headed to the office the next day to sign the contract. The gal in the office asked us if we got other quotes and we explained what we had and were planning to do and felt confident with them. She just smiled and said no worries those places like to high ball then come down the more you complain making you think your getting a deal and we don't operate that way. We took the weekend to pick our colors which they also gave us recommendations on and a list of homes and the colors that were on each house so we could go drive around and see the colors we were interested in. We had everything picked out and a week or 2 later the crew was out tearing off the roof. Now there is 3 crews to do the work, roofers, soffit and fascia guy and the gutter guy. The roof came out nice, all but one spot. The flashing the roofers put on over our bay window looked like crap and the fascia guy said he couldn't do anything to make it better as this was the work of the roofers. One call to the office, the owner came out, took one look and called the roofing foreman come out to work with the fascia guy and both worked together and made it look great. 3 days later the gutter guy was out and did his job and we couldn't be happier. I was going to wait till spring to write this review but after the 2 inches of snow that fell on Halloween I figured it would be a good time. 2 days later (the day I am writing this) I went outside to look at the houses up and down my block. I do have a lower pitch house then most, even so, I have the most snow still on all 4 sides of my roof as others are almost completely clear. Snow remaining on the roof is a good thing as it means little heat lose through the attic. I normally had ice dams on the east and south side of the house, so I would install heater cables to keep the roof and downspouts clear during the winter. I am not going to put them on this year to see if I have any more problems with ice build up. I hope I don't but we shall see. One last thing is the warrant, long 40 year and is transferable to the next owner should we sell. As a local family owned business I feel they do take pride in the work they do. read more

Crew arrived between 8-830 and got to work immediately stripping the garage roof. They were extremely careful about setting up plywood to protect our vegetable and flower gardens and I'm happy to report nothing was damaged. They even took the time to carry most of the debris away from the side our gardens are on before it came down off the roof. Crew worked efficiently and cleaned up everything. They were gone early enough that we could have the yard back for the majority of a beautiful day. I will recommend them to anyone and will definitely use them when the house roof is ready to be replaced. read more

While their bid was not as low as some others, we decided to give them a try and are glad we did. When there were some pricing issues, the owner of the business got personally involved and solved matters to our complete satisfaction. (Most importantly, we know they will be around, if needed, while others may be out of business as we experienced with a previous contractor). I moved on and called two other companies that didn't charge for a quote and we're very professional. I tend to write true and real reviews to help the next guy so be warned on length.. As far as contractors go, these guys aren't too bad... I will say that the quality of work appears to be second to none. I was very impressed with how the roof, soffit, facia, and new gutters were installed! While that's all good here's my minor discomforts... Mind you, none are really deal breakers. I set up to get a quote and they came out. I felt confident that the person who came to appraise my job actually knew what he was talking about and I felt I could trust him, which is important. This was all taken care of in November 2015 so it didn't really matter that it took a week or so to get the final appraisal back. We decided the price seemed fair and went in for a meeting with the owner's son to understand some of the lingo on the contract and sign it. The owner's son mentioned that they would start looking to have us call in and start planning a date to begin work in April 2016 sometime. That was perfect. Beginning to middle of March 2016 rolls around and I get a call from their scheduling guy pressing the issue that we need to begin the roof asap. I was slightly taken back because I had expected April and wasn't truly ready but, what the heck, lets roll.... So we were all set for March 24th and I was ready. March 24th rolls around and no one. I wondered what happened but I figured I'd get a call. Nope. So Peterson comes out March 25th at about 7:30am and starts banging the living hell out of the roof which scared the literal crap out of me because I came home only a few hours before from work as I work extremely late and into the morning hours. I'm definitely perturbed because I had no idea but I guess it has to be done. Caught a little hiccup with the color of the new "chimney thingy" (luckily I checked) but it was a 45 minute fix. We're all good still. Everyone there seems to know what they're doing so great! They finish in one day and left everything nice and clean. I call up the scheduling guy and plan for the facia and soffit people to come out. I go in and pick the colors and we talk about how everything will go and that they'll be out to install the soffit and facia within the week. No problems. The next week rolls around with no calls, no nothing so I check in. He tells me that the best gutter guy in the business is on vacation till April 4th and we gotta wait for him because.... he's the best! Ok. Weeks go by and nothing. No calls, no messages, no letters, no Harry Potter owls... nothing. Randomly one morning, April 18th to be precise and again after coming home at like 4am from work, I get a guy banging on my front door. I freak the hell out and can barely tell where I'm at in my own house because I was so deep in sleep from just going to bed that I can barely make it down the stairs. By the time I get downstairs, the person is now banging on the glass sliding doors I have on the back of my house. I had no warning, nor any idea that this would be happening this morning so I was angry. Honestly I was really pissed off... but I was nice to the soffit and facia guy who simply needed power for his tools because I didn't have a line on the outside of my house and I didn't want to fight with him because killing people is still illegal, or so I've read. It takes this man 3 straight days to get my facia and soffit done by himself, which seems crazy, but after all the crazy waiting and scheduling I didn't really mind. Plus he was nice and was probably THE most meticulous guy I've ever seen work. The facia and soffit are nearly perfect and he brought the right colors on the first try! Next will be the gutters.... The facia and soffit guy tells me probably the next day, Thursday, April 21. Nope, no one there. I get a call from the scheduling guy and he tells me that he's sorry, the supplier was out of stock and not to worry the gutter guys will be at my house on Friday morning to install, the very next day. Ok perfect. Friday morning comes... no one there. So whatever right. I figure, who cares at this point. Scheduling is not their strong suit. So I'm figuring Monday morning cause what contractor works weekends right? Go to sleep at about 2 or 3am after coming home late from work again on Saturday morning. Boom, doorbell like crazy on Saturday morning early with the birds. What the hell. Again, no call, no text, no hey how are ya... Why is this difficult.? I'm so tired my face hurts.... Gutter guy is randomly outside and needs power... Go figure! So I get dressed and get him the power but it's not enough for his tools with the extension cord distance and he ends up needing to go and get a generator anyways. Why not just bring the damn generator thing in the first place? Whatever. Overall, the work did get done and everything looks and works great, I just think they need to work on their scheduling and communication a bit more. If you have a month to get your work completed then don't think twice and call them! read more

Great work. The price was fair - not the highest quote I received, and not the lowest. The work was done satisfactorily and in a timely fashion, and the yard and surrounding area was spotless. I feel that I received good communication about scheduling, and about the additional work that had to be done when the workmen were here. I also appreciate that I received a discount for being an Angie's list member, even though I didn't ask for it until after I had signed the contract. I hope I never have to do business with a roofer again, but if I do, it'll be Peterson. read more

They may not start actual work until after 8am, but today is the seventh day in a row I have been woken up by them stomping around over my bedroom around 7am (one day was even before 7am), so much that my door is rattling and nails are popping out of my ceiling and drywall is falling over my head. Did a sofit / fascia and gutters for my father's home in October, 2015. Pricing and reviews were good so we went with Peterson. My father being 96 years old is a bit skeptical of contractors working on his home, but this was a memorable experience. The workmen were all polite and workmanship was excellent. being a retired tradesmen myself I'm totally pleased with the workmanship, pricing and we couldn't be more pleased. One star is too many for this business. We had a terrible experience with this company and the owner. They made many mistakes on our roof, i.e., shooting about 300 nails through our roof (had to be completely replaced), nails came out on the ceiling by the sky lights, ruined 2 of our new Trex deck boards, and walked with dirty shoes onto our white carpet. Unfortunately, Jim the owner did not take responsibility for any of the mistakes, trying to place the blame elsewhere. He actually had the nerve to send us a revised bill charging us for labor for his crew to fix the mistakes. He is not a responsible businessman to say the least. He threatened to take us to court over his carelessness. Our neighbors had their roofs done at the same time, and instead of putting a port o potty on sight, the roofers were seen urinating on the sides of our houses! Please look for a reputable roofer who knows how to run a business and is not only about the bottom line. read more

Just got my roof redone with reason cedar. This company is great-much more thorough and more reasonably priced than the other 'big' Evanston roofer. We have a tudor with many small slant sections and the crew made it look spectacular and as if it will last forever. Got 4 estimates for my new roof. Peterson was not the most expensive nor were they the least, but they were the best! A very professional proposal and most of all, a very professional work crew.
