The food was very very good and the folks here who own the place also work here and they are lovely people. I met two of the owners - we were passing through on our way to California. The salmon was cooked perfectly and so was the steak. If you come here get the steak if you are a steak person because it's top notch. I didn't get to try the cowboy sushi (chicken jalapeño bacon) but wish I had. The steak flight, burger, filet and salmon tacos were great. We went at about 8pm which is late. They close at 9. The place is super interesting, it was an old train station. Prices not bad. It's small inside but looks like they are expanding. I ordered Salmon with wild rice. My honey ordered an 8oz steak. Staff are working fast and hard. The steak tasted off, hard to describe. Mine was a bit overcooked to my liking. Anyway, he sent the steak back and ordered a pork chop, which was excellent. Give it a try, hopefully they will showcase the building and history of what the building used to be. read more

We were on a long county trip from CA to Tennessee l and we found this little place in an historic train station based on the reviews. There really aren't a lot of other options and we had a dog, fortunately we could park in the shade, there is NO outdoor sitting. (That might be helpful for travelers). We were the only ones there, but I have to say it was one of the best salads in our 4000 mile trip. I got the salad with steak on top, wow. First the steak was juicing, flavorful and just cooked. I think my husband had the burger which was also great. The owner was super friendly. Hands down my favorite restaurant i ate at in Elk City! I travel a lot for work, so i primarily eat out. Finding a good quality steak in a small town has proven to be a tough task. Great local place in an old Katy Railroad depot. We dined here during an overnight road trip stop and found the Food and service to be wonderful. We dined at the bar along side a colorful set of local residents who basically told us what to order... and they were spot on in their suggestions. My husband had the pork chops, I had the salmon, and we both raved about the food - wonderfully spiced and expertly prepared. Such a treat! Like everywhere, PrairieFire is struggling with a shortage of staff and supplies. Even so, service was very pleasant and not rushed. Just happened on to this place yesterday. Ordered the salmon for dinner. Came out HOT and cooked perfectly. Every thing was excellent, the service from everyone I interacted with was friendly. The food came out of the kitchen so fast. It was so good, I came back again the next day for lunch and again it was amazing, I got a burger with fries and it was done right. There are three rooms as of this writing, the main dining room with 8 tables, a second dining room and a bar. There's construction going on, no idea of the plan. We ordered the filet dinner to split: 8 oz filet, baked potato, fried green tomatoes and 2 salads. I don't care for their house made bacon vinaigrette but that's just my taste, nothing wrong with it. The said was good. Dinner: the filet is AWESOME!! The fried green tomatoes are even better than the steak and they do a nice baked potato. We had room (a little) for dessert so we shared the towering chocolate cake which is served warm. SO GOOD! RRR likes a cake that is heavier but I don't mind as this one delivers plenty of beautiful dark chocolate flavor. Had to take most of it home for later, with coffee. ahhhhhh.... read more

We were in Elk City for a conference and my colleague selected Prairiefire as our dinner spot. Located on the west side of town in an old train station it is a pretty unassuming building from the outside. Inside the atmosphere is trendy/casual, the staff are friendly and service is good. We ordered up some appetizers which were good, my favorite were the potato nachos. For the main course I selected the chopped steak, sans peppers and onions with mashed potatoes and gravy, greenbeans and a side salad with ranch. Salad came first, it was tasty but a little on the smallish side. The main plate followed and it was Uhmazing! Think of the best hamburger you can find, top it off with brown gravy and and potatoes and you've got the equivalent of a warm flavorful comfortable blanket on a cold winter's day. Secondly, everywhere I go Missouri has signs up stating that masks are mandatory. This place is no exception. Don't believe all the hype about this place. We were super disappointed. Now, to be fair, I had the shrimp & sea scallops, and it was delicious! But high praise circulated around the country fried steak and that drove our decision to go there because my hubs loves it, but it was lousy, so tough he couldn't chew it, covered in gravy that wasn't good, and with a side of mashed potatoes that was gluey. The side of green beans was good. We took the leftovers home to feed the pups. They'll enjoy it and have the teeth to chew it. Service was good! Driving by this restaurant, you'd never think it was a five-star experience. It's in an old train station, and the original front of the building faces the side road, so it's kinda unassuming to look at from the outside. Plus they seem to be doing some outside renovation. But ignore all that. Inside, they have a lot of original fixtures like benches, chandeliers, and a gorgeous decorative ceiling in the main dining area. The tables are a good size for talking across, and it's not as loud as a lot of restaurants are these days. The menu, (in a clean, tasteful cover) and the dinnerware are light-colored, making a striking contrast to the dark tables. Lots of attention to little details, but it still feels like a casual, hometown place. I'm fairly sure our server was one of the owners. She was helpful with the extensive menu, attentive without being intrusive, and unfazed by my husband's attempts at humor. And the food! We are near the end of a cross-country road trip. This meal was by far the best food we've had on the trip. It was hard to make a choice from the four-page menu. I finally picked the salmon tacos with cilantro lime rice. They arrived on a simple rectangular white plate, perched on a small metal taco rack on one side. The rice was in a flat layer filling the other side of the plate, with a lime wedge on either end of the rice. Nice presentation. The tortillas were soft, substantial and nicely grilled. Each individual ingredient was added separately instead of being mixed together so I could taste each one. The salmon was perfectly cooked. The tacos held together without dripping or tearing, to the last bite. The rice was fluffy and subtly flavored. My husband had the salmon salad. The piece of salmon was huge, the greens crisp and dry. Even though he prefers ranch dressing, he gamely gave the raspberry vinaigrette a try and thoroughly enjoyed it. I tried it too. It was thick and worked well with everything in the salad. I have to say that the pineapple was a bit tasteless and mushy, but otherwise it was a great salad. I wish we could come back and try other menu items. Next time we drive through Oklahoma we'll be sure to plan a stop in Elk City so we can visit again. read more

Ok first off is the location. The building is an old train depot used up till the 70s. Very cool building. They had the main room and a smaller side room. Looked like they were or had added in but it wasn't finished as it was full of tools and materials. Should have papered over the see through glass door. Kinda took away from The charm of the other part. Amy who I love unique places and this was very unique! Parking was kinda funky and limited but adequate for the occupancy it could accommodate. Service was very good. Several young girls that were very attentive at all times. Now for the awesome food. I ordered the reg ribeye 14oz. It was so smoky and grilled perfectly! Very tender and just the right amount of tasty fat as that's where ur flavor comes from. Came w two sides and side salad. The salad did not have enough items in it in my opinion. It had lettuce of course, a couple crushed up croutons I think, one piece of cucumber and a single baby carrot! No tomatoes of any kind or even cheese which would have greatly added to the already great salad except for that! There was a little bucket of club and saltine crackers and I love club crackers w salad! Just me! Let's Improve that! I asked for ranch dressing and it was one of the best homemade ranch I've ever tasted. My sides I asked for were hand cut smaller fries not big thick ones I don't like. More comparably to show string but not that small. Very good none the less. My other side was the fried green tomatoes w a raspberry jalapeño marmalade. It had a spicy side to it from the peppers and it also was extremely good! My steak was cooked medium rare as I asked. Awesome tasting steak. None better and I grew up eating g our own beef! I know beef! My wife ordered meatballs in a Dr Pepper glaze on top smashed potatoes. There were 4 meatballs of very good size so there was plenty. She also had a side salad w blue cheese she absolutely loved and thought it was definitely one of the best she's ever had. Too full for desert so I have to skip reviewing desert! In the town I'm from this place would be packed as well as a line waiting. It's that good. So when ur passing through hunt this place down its in the original old part of town by the railroad tracks. I went for dinner with several friends after working out. I was worried we looked too rough, but I don't think anyone noticed. We waited for about 15-20 minutes for a table, which wasn't bad considering there was 6 of us. I didn't get to see the entire restaurant, but it seemed rather small. There wasn't a ton of room to really move around, from what I saw. We were seated essentially in the middle of the room, and it wasn't a big room. The menu is mostly focused on meat. Even the salads came with some sort of meat, whether it was beef, chicken, or fish. The lack of options made it incredibly difficult for us vegetarians. I decided to get a salad without the meat. I think it was supposed to come with either steak or salmon, but I'm not 100% sure. The salad was just ok. It was iceberg lettuce and supposed to come with a garlic vinaigrette, but it was just balsamic vinaigrette. Balsamic is fine, but I would've chosen a different dressing if I had known it wouldn't be the house made garlic vinaigrette as it stated on the menu. The best part of the salad was the candied nuts. We also received a plate of rolls, 1 for each person, with a sweet butter. The roll was very good, and I would've liked another for sure. That was probably my fault because I didn't ask the server for another plate of rolls for the table. Maybe next time I try this restaurant I'll remember to ask! The server was fine. We didn't receive amazing service, but our needs were mostly taken care of. The visit wasn't bad, it was just not what I was expecting. Maybe I chose the wrong salad, I'm not sure. However, I definitely wasn't expecting to pay $12 for a plate of iceberg lettuce. Most restaurants I've visited would discount the price if you omit the most expensive part of the item, in this case salmon or steak (whichever it was). The salad was full price. I wasn't expecting that whatsoever. I would try this restaurant again with friends. Maybe I would have a different experience. I'm sure my experience would be much better with more on the menu for vegetarians, even just the addition of a veggie burger would be nice. I know my friends around the table were pleased with their meals. Most of my friends ordered salads as well, and they were satisfied. Really cute place! We stopped in for dinner while on our cross country roadtrip. We both ordered the country fried steak. It was my first time having it and I wasn't disappointed. Portions were HUGE. I ate only half; felt bad not being able to take it with me. (the hubs and I could have split it). Came with a house salad, I ordered with their bacon vinegarette and its my new favorite dressing! I had mac n cheese as a side and it was creamy and absolutely delicious. I also had a sweet potato, which was caramelized to perfection and tasted realllly good but unfortunately was cold. No bother though. Everything about this place was welcoming, from the hearty home cooking to the friendly staff and chairs on wheels. I loved that it was a converted train station. This was our food salvation! We're on a business trip in Woodward and Clinton and did not have a good experience with the former, food-wise. A colleague recommended Prairiefire and he was not wrong--it's absolutely amazing. The building is really cool looking, and well decorated with a neat backstory. We had the Dip Duo to start. Homemade tortilla chips and the two dips were delicious. I got the Prairie melt and added the pork belly, with a side of fried green tomatoes. Again, everything was amazing. I also tried the blackberry margarita. It wasn't too sweet and it tasted like they made their out sour mix--it was perfect. This place is well worth the drive, and you can easily close your eyes and point to anything on the menu and I'm sure it will be delicious. Thanks for saving our dinner for this work trip!
