Late stop after along day on the road. The staff couldn't be more gracious or accommodating. The food was great and I was happy they could modify vegetarian dishes to vegan for me! My sister enjoyed the 4 street tacos! She cot to try carnitas, shrimp, chicken and carne asada! All got her seal of approval. And a dog friendly patio where my pup was welcomed with water and pets. We go here at minimum once a week but usually two or three times. The queso and chips are delicious. Chips are made right there in the restaurant. We love everything they make. Queso barria tacos have great flavor, burritos with queso on top, fajitas, and more. We haven't gotten a bad meal. The beans are delicious! Service is always fast, polite, friendly, and they are good at anticipating our needs. We bring little kids with us and we don't have to ask they just bring on the napkins. IFYKYK! read more

Can only judge off their takeout and their take on a salad. But this place was laughably bad in the steak salad department. Like, really gross. They were booming inside when I picked up the order, though, so maybe a better experience in-person, not with a salad. read more

I love going to local restaurants when I travel, and Mexican is one of my go to cuisines. Based on the reviews of this place, I had high hopes. But, I was disappointed. Let me start off by saying the service was fast and efficient and the amount of food for the price was impressive. But, when I go to a Mexican restaurant, I look for two things...the salsa that comes with the free chips and how they do tamales. The salsa was first. It was served warm (and I do mean warmer than room temperature) and tasted heavily of cilantro laced crushed tomatoes. Not a good first impression. Then came the tamales. I was pleased to see a tamale plate on the house specialties section of the menu, as they are usually relegated to one choice on a combination plate or even only available a la carte. But I was highly disappointed. First, the masa was thick and the consistency of wet cornbread. There was very little filling in the tamales proper with most of the meat piled on top of each tamale. The individual sauces were tasty, but the texture of the masa was hard to overcome. In looking around the restaurant, others seemed to be enjoying their food, and I would be willing to give the place another try, but I won't be having tamales from here again. read more

I'm not sure with the reviews some say really good. Maybe it was just bad timing but when I go eat somewhere I want flavor ! I want to taste all the seasonings! Fajitas were very bland and watery not cooked on a grill it couldn't be. The only thing I had that was made okay was the beans and rice. Server was really nice and all, and wine was good. Our meals were fantastic! Large portions, so well done, we had chili relleno and chili Colorado. The chili Colorado was the best beef dish I've ever eaten in a Mexican restaurant. Service was great and the atmosphere was busy but we still had our servers attention. Highly recommend!!! read more

Everything was awesome. For the last 3 years we're been driving from Phoenix to the east coast and back and we've eaten here each year. The food seems to get better and better each time. Look we live in Phoenix and we have plenty of awesome Mexican restaurants, but I have to tell you this place kicks ass. The food is amazing, and the service is impeccable. So, I've been hanging out here while in the county for work. I enjoy a drink after work and canelos is a great Margarita. I have enjoyed it but today I have been insulted twice and served the worst food I have ever eaten. I ordered "all you can eat taco Monday". Two ground beef tacos. What I got was two ground tripe tacos of the most disgusting flavor. Horrible. When I complained I received my bill for 55 bucks and an instruction that maybe I should stop drinking. They acted like they didn't speak English and displaced me. I paid the bill and left. What this allows me to do is give them a ZERO. I'm sorry to everyone that was good to me there, but your food sucks. read more

So, in a virtual wasteland for good restaurants, this place shines like a bright beacon of chips and salsa. I went here with a friend, as we were starving and desperately needed sustenance. She had already been here a few times and knew it was good, so I was pretty excited to try it. The waiter was super nice and funny; he was extremely personable and great to interact with. They have a pretty sizable menu of all things Tex-Mex. Let's be honest here: authentic Mexican food is really not easy to come by, but Tex-Mex is always held in high regard. I ordered three cheese enchiladas with 2 of verde sauce and 1 of cream sauce. As we waited for our food, we snacked on chips, salsa, and queso. The chips and such wee extremely good. I was a huge fan of the queso and already planning a visit in the very near future. My food arrived and it looked extremely yummy...and I was right. The enchiladas were perfect with tons of flavor. The verde sauce was a bit more spicy than I had planned, but I was totally willing to sit and sweat through it haha. The flavor was totally worth it. The rice and beans were also really good. Usually I never eat the rice and beans. This place? I made a happy plate. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food, this may not be what you're looking for. Pretty good food great service off the beaten path and something delicious in the middle of nowhere. They could do a better job explaining what you get on your two item combo. For instance I ordered a street taco and a Chile relleno - the taco showed up with cheese and lettuce on a soft flour tortilla. And the meat was different than the chicken street taco plate (which was very good!) which my husband ordered. His came proper! Corn tortillas, cilantro and onions with a lime on the side. Being from CA we have a serious relationship with Mexican food and this place hit the spot for that need, but they just couldn't close the deal. On a positive- my three stars are for The top shelf margarita was bomb! It was cinco de Mayo and they were pushing it out! I love that the people working here are, in fact, Mexican but adding the chocolate to the sopapilla is an interesting choice as we prefer a more authentic version of fresh fried dough piping hot served with a side of honey! They can earn those last stars if they jump back in line and stop deviating from delicious into mediocrity!!! We had lunch here and they were not busy at all. They do not offer complimentary salsa or queso and waitresses had to keep correcting order. My husband got the chimichanga and so small. For four people it cost $65 for lunch. Was not the best but not many places to eat. I will not be going back. I would keep driving to Elk City or Weather for a decent meal. read more

We were directed here by the front desk hotel staff after a long day of driving. The restaurant is small and very loud. Ok no big deal we were tired so I was ready for some fantastic Mexican food. I ordered queso and it came out cold so I sent it back and the waiter who didn't understand me bought back another cold one. Our food was cold and the portion size for the rice and beans was ridiculously small. I know everyone says this is a hidden gem but I was unimpressed and really irritated by the amount of flies that were bothering us while we ate. I ordered carna asada that had a lot of fat on it and no flavor at all. Would not recommend this restaurant at all. read more

We were in Clinton to visit the water park (also great) and stopped in Canelo's for dinner. We are so glad we did! The staff was super friendly and got us to a booth right away. The menu was extensive, which made it difficult to choose--so many options sounded great. Everything was reasonably priced, even the drinks. I had the GIO Special, which was steak, chicken and shrimp on a bed of rice covered in a fantastic white queso. I loved it! My young sons liked their food, too, which doesn't always happen. Overall we're very glad we found this place and hope to try it again someday. read more

Fabulous food with great prices. We split their three for type meal with rice beans. The flavors are right on. There was no attempt to cover poor work with blazing hot spice. The taste of individual ingredients blended to a very tasty meal. The margarita was large and well done. This is just off I40 at Neptune. Turn toward clinton. First off, we're from CA and can be picky eaters. Especially when it comes to Mexican food. Many claim authentic and sell you "fake" rice and beans. Anyhow, we were on the I-40 and were starving! We happened to exit nearby and checked out Yelp. The town doesn't seem to use the app much, but we crossed our fingers and walked in, simply because of the carnitas tacos posted on here. (They looked legit!) The menu had so many yummy items to choose from! I struggled a bit on making that very important decision....and opted for the chiles rellenos. They're under the vegetarian section. You get two real poblano peppers filled with cheese, topped with sauce and they come with beans and rice. (Not that fakeness of Anaheim chiles with some whacked out thick batter) Anyhow, the sauce was something different for me, but it was good. Especially when you cut up the chile in pieces, grab a chip and get a mix of the cheesy chile relleno, the sauce and some of those beans. Whoa! Perfect bite! The rice is awesome! Very authentic Mexican rice! Not that fake bagged crap. It has pieces of carrots, some peas...and random pieces of bell peppers. The peas and carrots took me back to my childhood....even though I'm not a fan of peas. The hubbs changed his mind twice and finally ended up with the carnitas tacos (but not without enjoying a good amount of my food as well). The order comes with three doubled tortilla tacos, a side of beans and rice...as well as some onions and cilantro. The food was piping HOT!!! Just like it should be! We ordered to go, since we traveled with our pup. Too bad we live so far; otherwise I'd be going back for sure! Oh! They hooked it up with two salsas and a bag of chips too.
