Spent the night in Clinton and while driving around saw numerous Mexican food restaurants. Searched Yelp and Canelos ranked high. We got the vegetable enchiladas and vegetable fajitas. Both were outstanding. They forgot the flour tortillas on the fajitas but did not slow us down on consuming the veggies. Great flavor and large portions. We will stop again on our next trip through. read more

Going through Clinton, Oklahoma on Rt. 66 and was directed to this little gem. You get thirsty on road trips and the giant mugs of ice cold beers were GREAT. Some of the freshest and best Mexican restaurant food I have had, and Clinton is all about Mexican restaurants (and sadly not much else). This town is about half-way between Oklahoma City which is now big and sprawling and Wild West Shamrock, Texas on the border, so it was a welcome stop. Clinton was once a big oil field equipment town which I would sometimes go through when working in the oil biz about 40 years ago before law school. Sadly, the town is just a shell now. The Rt 66 museum is still open. Anyhow, back to the restaurant. Just about everything on the expansive menu looked great, so we opted for fajitas and some kind of steak, rice and black beans bowl. Fantastic !!! Giant margs which were great too. This place is on a semi isolated stretch of road off the highway in line with several other Mexican restaurants, but you know which one to go to because this is the one surrounded by all the cars. Nice porch/patio area too. GO here on your next Rt. 66 road trip. read more

I've eaten there twice. We won't go back because the food isn't homemade it's guacamole from the freezer section, fajitas were super tough, cheese enchiladas are an simple meal that's hard to screw up, but they did. I'm not sure why people eat here. The service was amazing but the food was not. We have a town full of Mexican restaurants. Pedro's, Sadays, and my favorite taqueria fresnillo is so amazing. read more

I was passing through Clinton during travel and found Canelo's on Yelp. It did not disappoint! I ordered the Pollo con Chorizo and it was delicious! Plus a few micheladas. The service was great, the restaurant was clean, and the place was packed. It's too bad I am from the west coast, otherwise I would go to Canelo's often! The restaurant looks beautiful on the inside. For that we will give it 2 stars. We are accustomed to Tex mex so consider that for the review. Locals may really enjoy the salsa. For us though, it was pizza sauce. Literally, no spice and the taste reminded me of lunchable pizza sauce. Service was very good, but the food came out and was obvious it was served from a fridge and attempted to be re heated. The enchiladas could be peeled from one another how they sat over night. The cheese was still solid from being refrigerated. I've seen this before at places when you show up right at opening, but this was after 11:45. The rice was the only food that had a good flavor, but was also clumpy from being re heated. The refried beans were soupy. I'm normally not critical of places, but this was pretty disappointing considering it has decent reviews on here. May give it a shot again next time. They people really were nice, but I'm never going to complain about food in the restaurant. You never know what could be given to you afterwards. read more
