Did great work and communicated well!! They installed flood lights, added an outdoor outlet, installed and created the electrical Source for two outdoor lights. read more

Unfortunately we never got any email or phone call responses after they sent us an estimate. They came recommended from a neighbor so we were looking forward to working with them. The quote was quick, but they didn't seem to want to do what was requested (remove knob and tube due to insurance). read more

Jason was great helping us out with fixing our outlets, replacing the kitchen fluorescent lights to LED. The first set didn't work but Jason was able to return, figure out the problem and fix the kitchen lights without extra charge. They are a keeper in my book. Trustworthy and highly reliable electricians and I wouldn't hesitate to give them a call in the future. Highly recommended! read more

We worked with Jason from Power+Light after a personal recommendation and his work is excellent and high quality. He and owner Mike communicate well (Email and Phone) and are great to work with. Jason fixed (reworked) all the wiring in our old control cabinet for safety and in a later job added an EV charger for us and debugged a faulty outlet. Quality work from great local people, highly recommend! read more

We just used Power + Light to modernize our electrical system and some other electric projects and we highly recommend them. We bought our home in Dec and Mike came out the Sat before Xmas to give us an estimate, which was very reasonable. It was also easy scheduling the work for the beginning of Jan. Jason came out and updated our wiring, which had been going into an old fuse box in a tight corner of a closet. He also installed an EV power station and confirmed the safety of the wiring in our attic (so we can get it insulated), as per our original plan. He was also able to work with us (and give his thoughts) for some on the fly projects to add/move some outlets and install a garage door panel. It was always easy working with Mike and Jason. We always felt like we knew what was going on and there were no surprises. It was also a reasonable price. I highly recommend Power + Light and intend to use them for all our electric needs. read more

I'd like to recommend Michael and his company. I am a licensed plumbing, heating and air conditioning contractor myself, (Marc Brenner Co. est 1974) who has worked alongside these very excellent electricians over the years. They are hard working, thoughtful and knowledgeable. read more

MIke and his crew are wonderful. They are nice, clean, trustworthy, and damn good at their jobs. I just purchased an 1895 Victorian in Oakland. It has needed a lot of work, not just because it's old, but because the people who tried and failed to "flip" the home did a lot of ghetto work. I received three bids for the electrical work that needed to be done to re-route all the various power incarnations and shoddy electrical work into one new electrical box. I also wanted to make sure that all the rooms had at least one grounded outlet to plug computers into. Mike's bid was a fair price and I liked his honesty when he spoke with me. So I chose him. I'm glad I did too, because we had a miscommunication about the grounded plugs and when the work was all done I didn't have grounded plugs... After he and I figured out how the miscommunication occured, he explained to me what needed to be done and the $$$ needed. He then offered another solution that would work until we were ready for the larger rewire and said he would do it for free due to the miscommunication. Now that's customer service and honesty at its finest! I plan on using Mike and his team for many more jobs - including the future grounding of bedroom outlets. read more

Mike, Kenny and the rest of this team are the contractors one dreams about. I have used them for 3 large jobs over the past 7 years, as well as in an emergency situation recently. Mike is extremely knowledgeable and honest. He and his crew are skilled, friendly and extremely detail oriented. They are accessible and finish the job on or ahead of schedule. They are prompt, stay late when necessary, and make every effort to leave the place clean. Recently, when my refrigerator broke down, I called them. Mike responded and had Kenny come by as soon as he finished at the site where he was working that day...they go above and beyond any expectations I ever had. I can't recommend them highly enough! read more

Had a chance to work with Power and Light again which confirmed again that they are not only expert electricians but super honest when it comes time to giving opinions and advice on what electrical work really needs to get done and when the work other electricians are trying to convince you is essential really isn't. read more

Mike Grimm is my go-to electrician. He and all his staff are professional and knowledgeable as well as being very pleasant folks. Mike is honest and straightforward. As a Realtor, I've brought him to listings where the electrical system was a mess, and he offered a reasonable solution.I appreciate his willingness to help clients with bids for work, even when the buyer may not end up purchasing the home. The greatest vote of confidence I can give is having used him on my own home, a landmarked property with period details and rarified materials. Mike and all of his crew are always respectful of the properties they work on, and their owners. I recommend Power & Light without hesitation! read more

The whole experience was pretty perfect. Called Mike for an estimate. He came the next day, and provided the estimate when he said he would. That alone is a rarity in the Bay Area these days. They scheduled the job for not too far out. Mike had to reschedule once, but he communicated that well in advance. Seth and Jason were out here to perform the work. They were professional, efficient, courteous. They cleaned up the work area better than any contractor we've ever had. In fact, in the area where they were working, a whole jug of detergent had spilled before they got there. Seth cleaned it up for us and they left their work area better than how they found it. Work was of good quality and price was right. Really good experience. read more

We needed a complete service upgrade and didn't know who to go to since we are still pretty new to this area. This company came highly recommended by a few neighbors and I can see why! We were very happy with how convenient they were to work with, from start to finish - from scheduling to billing. They came exactly when promised, and were very professional. What more can you ask for?! read more

I have been building and renovating houses and apartments in North Oakland and Berkeley for 15 years and Power & Light are the only electricians that I will use. Mike and Jason are excellent electricians, total professionals, honest, hard working, and their prices are fair. I have never had a problem with building inspectors on electrical work. Mike knows all the recent code changes and checks and double checks every detail. He is easy to work with, doesn't get annoyed at last minute change orders from architects, and responds quickly to email and text. You won't find a more honest, dedicated professional. read more

We're in the midst of a construction project where Jason from Power and Light is doing our electrical work. We have been very happy with the work, the level of communication, turnaround time, options being presented to us in a clear manner. Jason has been a pleasure to work with. We've passed all of our inspections without issues. I highly recommend Power & Light. No complaints at all. read more

We highly recommend Power + Light and Mike (the owner) should you need a reliable electrician. They came to our 1906 home and prior to moving in upgraded a few of the outlets and fixed old circuit breaker panels. When our bill came we noticed that they had charged for one additional outlet. We called Mike and explained the error, he promptly removed the erroneous charges and re-sent the bill. Mike is very reputable and trustworthy. When he came to our home to get payment I asked him about helping us to shed light in our craftsman dining room, he recommended against doing the work as it would involve a major amount of demo work. Gotta love a contractor who advises you AGAINST doing work. I will definitely use Mike again and highly recommend his company to others. read more

To finish a separate project and obtain city permit for electrical upgrade, I called Mike's company after finding them listed on Better Business Bureau website. I didn't find any of the other independent contractor names I was given listed on the BBB site. Power + light were very responsive and ready to take on the project. Prices were nearly the same. While at my home, the were clean and respectful and notified me of any anticipated outages , etc. I asked for other changes and they were flexible. I feel great about the quality of the work done. The city inspector agreed and signed off quickly... read more

Mike Grin and Power + Light responded quickly to my request for electrical services. They estimated the job at $790 for the four tasks required. They completed the first task timely and I was happy with that work, although it did seem to go slowly. I did not receive an invoice for this work for several weeks and when I did receive it the amount, $923, exceeded the estimate of the total job. In the intervening month Power + Light proved unable to return to complete the job. In fairness, it was often rainy during this period. read more

The rating is based on (1) Power & Light's very prompt reply to my inquiry and (2) providing a very detailed and thorough inspection of a 1920s cottage on the Oakland/Piedmont border (3) providing several detailed proposals for different combinations of the work. BACKGROUND: The house had repeatedly experienced blown circuits and fuses (a combination exists now). From prior residents I'd heard of sparking and a small fire. Mike was able to identify and explain the various factors that had resulted in this, and he very clearly explained the needed remedies, which are actually kind of complex due to the age of the house and my new requirements for more outlets (only one outlet per room currently). The house is now on 20amp / 120 volt service, which is very rare these days. (most buildings have already been updated, and this is work requires technical skills and good problem-solving skills with the logistics of bringing in new service from the PG&E pole.) MIke provided, per my request, a memo describing the conditions which detailed the reasons for the work that was proposed. He ALSO provided separate estimates for the upgrade/retrofit work versus the additional outlets (in different rooms and outside) that I also needed. His quote was one of three that I obtained and his provided the greatest detail (another quote just stated "upgrade" and the price) and the estimated $ was almost exactly the same as one other. The third person who I called for an estimate said that he would have to bill too much money since the job was too complicated. I gave him a ball-park price of what I had been quoted and he candidly said that it was a great price. Thus: A great price for a complex job of bringing a 1920s house (20amp / 120 v service) into the modern era... and a wonderful description so that I understand why the price was not just a few hundred dollars. He understands the process of this upgrade as well. He was also up-front about what their effort would NOT include, which I also appreciated. His demeanor was fabulous - professional, helpful, friendly. Again, this review is based on this initial visit, but I was impressed with the clarity of the explanations and the labor he put into providing 4 separate documents for different uses. (There is a long story behind that need.) read more

We needed an affordable electrician to upgrade our wiring and replace some old fans and fixtures, so we used someone we found listed frequently on the Berkeley Parents Network, because I've always had good luck with those recommendations. The crew from Power & Light was great to work with--fast, clean and knowledgeable. They always clearly explained what they were doing and how much it would cost, which I appreciate. Also really friendly, polite guys who we actually enjoyed having around (not always my experience with contractors, I'm sorry to say). The cost seemed fair and everything passed inspection with no problem. Highly recommended. read more

Michael Grin and his crew from Power + Light did a small wiring job for us, installing a new circuit and a receptacle. The whole process was very efficient and they did a great job for a fair price. You will not get a better electrician than this, timely, responsive, knowledgeable, and great work. read more

I interviewed 4 electricians who were highly rated on Yelp to do a major upgrade to the electrical service at my in-laws 1921 home in Oakland. All of the electricians were good, but Mike stood out as the most responsive and considerate. He and his crew coordinated with PG&E to run an upgraded 125A 120/240V Service to the house, swapped out and relocated the old meter and panels to safer and more convenient locations, provided dedicated circuits to laundry, furnace, refrigerator, microwave, and garage, installed additional outlets and light fixtures, and corrected several potentially hazardous wiring problems. His pricing was reasonable and his crew (Jason and Kevin) were a pleasure to work with. The final inspection was deemed "perfect" - a testament to Power+Light's workmanship. read more

Power & Light installed a new service panel and completely rewired my home. They did an excellent job, and were careful to install new outlets such that they matched the others in the house. They did a significant amount of work, but managed to only create two holes in walls in my utility room, which were patched well. They cleaned up after themselves--you'd never know they were here! I'd strongly recommend them for their reliability and expertise. read more

On 8/28/10 I left a voicemail message with this company, saying that I was looking for an estimate on adding a couple of circuits to my home. As of 9/13/10 I have not recieved a call back. Poor business practice. read more

We contacted Mike, Jason, & Seth from a personal recommendation. We were concerned that they did not have a web presence, but once we met them and saw the professional work they did, we were incredibly happy to have them update our electrical. They showed real pride in their craftsmanship, not charging extra to fix things to pass the inspection that was not quoted in their estimate. read more

Power + Light checked out the existing circuits in my 1922 house, added new circuits for a dishwasher and garbage disposal and upgraded several boxes to GFCI plugs. They are very knowledgeable and service oriented. Mike Grin actually advised me not to do work I had planned because he though it was not needed. They also found better ways to do things than I had expected. They were on time and on schedule. All told, I can highly recommend them. read more

DO NOT even bother calling this place, he does not return phone calls. I left 4 messages for him and never heard back. I also mentioned that I got his name and phone number from the positive Yelp reviews. I understand if you're busy, but you can at least text or call back saying that. read more
