First and foremost, I want to be clear - We bought a car. We really like the car. but honestly, you can buy a new/or nearly new car anywhere and it will be the same car. It is the experience with the staff that makes me continue buying cars somewhere, or for that matter recommending other people to buy cars from a particular dealership. And that's where Power Ford really disappointed(understatement) me. (note: I am not new to buying cars, we buy one every year or two, so this is not some sort of 'country mouse in the city' realization.) As of right now, we will not bring our business back.
Long story: We went in the evening and had a 2016 trade in of a similar model. that model had roof rails on it. while negotiating the price with the salesman we asked if we could get the roof rails from the old vehicle transferred to the newer one. He said 'not a problem, but our service staff is gone for the day, come in tomorrow and we'll get them transferred. No problem'. (This is, unfortunately, where I learned a lesson when dealing with some of the sales people here. GET IT IN WRITING!) We, agreed on a price, and we bought the car that night. The next morning, the salesman called and said his manager would not let him transfer the rails from our trade-in to our new car. Claiming they couldn't come off, they were permanently drilled in and it would be too destructive. BUT, he would get it us set up and it would be easy and 'no problem'.
Two weeks later I have been back to the dealership three times, emailed with parts staff and have had nothing but a run around. So, finally I decided to go and visit the sales manager to hopefully get tall of this ironed out and someone could at least tel me if it was possible to get the roof rails onto the vehicle we just purchased. I was sent across town to an aftermarket car parts store, )the Sales Manager told me it wouldn't be more than $2-300 tops from the after market place) they didn't have a lot to offer other than the least permanent and non-destructive option would be to buy the parts from Ford. The nice people there gave me a parts list and price and I headed BACK to Power Ford. When I get back to Power Ford and presented the sales manager the quote ($720 for parts alone) he looked right at me and said 'what do you expect me to do? I'm not paying for that. I don't owe you anything' To say that I was stunned is an understatement. Not that he wasn't going to help pay, but that all of a sudden I had become an enemy and he had no sympathy to the ridiculousness of this situation, that quick frankly, he had, at very least, partial responsibility for(he was the sales manager on duty the evening we bought the car and it was his employee who had promised something he couldn't promise). After we went back and forth(him in a raised voice) and implying that I had totally fabricated the verbal commitment his salesman had given us and it he had nothing for me. He told me he would have NEVER agreed to a deal that would allow us to take the top rails off of our trade-in. After I tried to get him to see our perspective a few more times, he finally conceded and said that if they could find the parts, he would help pay for the installation. He then angrily walked me over to the service department, (was snappy with the nice lady there) and then I was quoted $1100 for parts alone!(almost $400 more than the Ford(not aftermarket) quote I had just been given by someone who had just looked it up on the public Ford parts website!). So, then the Sales Manager called to talk to someone in their auto body shop who was working on our trade in. Asked them how hard it would be to take the rails off, they told him not a problem and it was non-destructive!!
He turned around and asked if I could be happy if I got the rails from our trade-in! A bit confused, I said 'of course'. This is what we had agreed on in the first place?! (after he told me time and time again that we couldn't and wouldn't get our old roof rails because there was no way to get them off?!) OK.
He told me they would be in yesterday, and for me to call him around noon. I did that, he told me they weren't there and he would call me later in the day when they were. As of right now-No call, no text update. nothing.
We are so ready to be done with this place. Honestly, at this point I don't really even care if we get our rails back (it wouldn't really surprise me if I never get a call). We will not take it there for servicing, we certainly won't be back for our next car.
Bottom line for Power Ford:
No customer should leave feeling like the enemy of a dealership - after they give them their hard earned money. It shouldn't feel like a mistake, having given our money to this business. But right now, it absolutely does. One deal might balance the books for the month, but when customers walk away feeling the way we do, it's bad business, plain and simple. read more
