Worst vehicle purchase experience ever. I live out of state and after looking on autotempest.com I found an F-150 at Power Ford that met my criteria. After talking with a salesman over the phone a few times and texting back and forth, I decided to purchase a one-way flight to Power Ford of New Mexico to purchase the truck. I corresponded with a few folks at Power Ford over the next few days to make sure I had everything I needed, including the cashiers check, proof of insurance etc. to make sure I would be able to buy the truck that day and make the 500+ mile drive back home the same day. I emailed them my itinerary and flew out a few days later.
When I arrived at the airport in Albuquerque, I got on my Uber app and scheduled a driver to come and pick me up and drive me to Power Ford, all of a 10 to 15 minute drive. I would have thought when you fly out of state to come and spend 70K on a truck, they might offer to pick you up from the airport, especially when its only 15 minutes away! None the less, the Uber driver was a really nice man, a refugee from Afghanistan, and had some pretty crazy stories to tell me about his life growing up over there, so that was cool. After he dropped me off at Power Ford, i was greeted by a very nice young lady, Z, who showed me the truck and went with me to test drive the vehicle. While we were driving back to the dealership, I noticed the truck had 2,000 more miles than what they had advertised to me (7,400 miles, not the 5,400 they had represented). Okay, not a super big deal but still, 40% more miles than what was advertised, represented. This is where things really went south.
Z introduced me to another assistant sales manager, Gary, who sat down with me to address the additional miles on truck. He cut right to the chase and told me they were not willing to do anything at all about the mistake. All he said was, "we can't roll back the odometer, sorry." I told Gary that I was not going to let the 2,000 increase in miles kill the deal but that Power Ford needed to do something to make this right. Plane and simple, they advertised a vehicle that had 40% less miles than it actually did. I told him that I thought $1,000 of the 70K purchase price would be fair. He said no way. He had already ran it up the food chain and the answer was, "we are already losing money on this truck and there is no room to go lower." Right, okay Gary, sure. So I then said they should at least reimburse my travel cost to fly NM and drive it back home. Total costs were right near $500. Nope, wouldn't even consider it. Gary then said he would see about getting me some all weather floor matts for the truck. Im thinking, heck, thats better than nothing. They have mark up in accessories so maybe that would be more palatable for them. "Okay, Gary, that will work for me" I said. At least it was something to show me that they recognized they had made a mistake and want to try and make it right. After being gone for 2 minutes or less, to go and talk to his "manager", Gary comes back and says, "Sorry, no can do. We are not even willing to get you floor mats. There is nothing I can do for you Sr. Sorry." I could hardly believe this was happening! They knew I had bought a one-way ticket from out state, I had the cashiers check in hand, and I was not going to walk on the deal. After I expressed my disappointment and frustration, Gary just sat there and looked at me with nothing at all to say. I wanted so badly to just get up walk out the door and have my Uber driver come pick me up and take me back to the airport just out of principal alone. read more
