Poway bike shop is great. They have a wide range of bikes and equipment and will have what you need whether you're riding a $100 department store special or a $10,000 top of the line machine. The owner, Luis, took care of us when I wanted to buy mountain bikes for my wife and I. He made sure we knew what was worth paying for and ensured we were happy and set up to enjoy our new bikes. Lots of other bike shops I've used roll their eyes if you aren't an expert and cater only to the elite rider, not Poway, when I was in there I watched the team happily repair a flat tire for a Disney princess themed children's bike. At the same time I felt comfortable they knew exactly what they were talking about as my wife and I ordered high end mountain bikes that each cost more than my first truck. The team of mechanics obviously knows what they're doing (Eric was awesome when helping us cut down our handlebars) and plenty of very experienced riders frequent the shop (just check out their Thursday night shop rides to see what I mean). I did not buy a bicycle here. The review is for repair services. Usually I repair my bike myself. Only if job is too complicated, I go to bike shop. I used their repair services 3 times. Once I had a brake that was set improperly. They fixed it successfully. Second, my foot brake in a cruiser bike got loose. They made it worse and I ended up buying a rear wheel and replacing it myself. Third, my crank broke. I gave them a crank to replace broken one with, which they did. However, in the process they ruined my crank ball bearings. I don't know who they employ for repair, but this fellow is surely not a pro if he can't fix a single-speed cruiser bike, which is the simplest. read more

When you call them to set up an appointment or ask a question all you get is a pre-recorded (long) message with no body answering and no way to leave a message. There is an instruction to use their online web interface to schedule an appointment, but after 5 days I've not received a response. I guess they feel it's OK to expect customers to stand in line in front of the store and practice social distancing before you can expect help. Store is very busy due to Covid-19, but I'll remember how I'm treated during these times and use this bad experience to remind myself how poorly they handled my business when times are different. This is their new larger location located just down Poway Rd in the movie theater plaza. The customer service has always been great here. They're personable and don't come off with an elitist attitude. I haven't bought any bicycles or accessories here but I do bring my bike in for servicing. They pretty much are able to perform any service you'd need done on a bike. I've brought my old mountain bike in to have the wheels trued, components installed and the derailleurs adjusted with no issues. Their turn around time is quick and they're usually able to complete the jobs within a few hours. They seem to treat their repeat customers well and one occasion gave some additional discounts on a big combination of jobs. read more

Got a great bike for a decent price and was blown away by their customer service; everyone working there is so personable. Wow! Seth delivered the new bike to my home! After riding it that day I realized seven speeds weren't going to cut it so I called the store and was told 'no problem,' I can bring the bike back. While there, Mikey was great at answering my questions; he's friendly, patient, and knew which bicycle helmet was right for me. I felt well-taken care of. Vinny made sure the seat on my new bike was adjusted to the proper height/ratio for my knees when I pedal. After making the final decision on which bike to get, Seth gave me a good deal on the trade-in. I couldn't be more pleased with my bicycle or Poway Bicycle's commitment in making their customer service a top priority. I appreciate their expertise, superior quality of bicycles and the confidence I have in knowing I got exactly what I wanted. Unfortunately had 2 bad experiences with this shop and will never be back. The first was with shipping a bike; I was returning it to a seller and Poway Bicycle said they'd pack and ship it ASAP; I got an email from the seller more than a week later saying that the bike never arrived and the return window was closed. Called Poway Bicycle and they had forgotten to ship the bike! Created a MASSIVE headache, wasted many hours of my time, and was completely their fault. At the end of the day I know mistakes happen and I want to support my LBS so I stopped by a few weeks later to pick up a couple of doodads including a small patch kit. There was some issue with one of the checkout computers and I spent more than 15 minutes getting checked out for a couple of items. The guy at the counter was an older tatted guy, and when I was walking out the door I looked at my receipt (the total had looked a bit high to me, even at brick and mortar prices) and I noticed that I was charged for EIGHT of those patch kits. Walked back in, pointed out the error, was given back the money for the 7 kits I didn't buy, and then I walked out for the last time. This probably would have been a 5 star review if they had shipped the bike on time and not made the checkout error, a 2 star review if they had given me the patch kit / some other doodad for free after I caught their error, or a 3 star review if they had comped me the price of shipping the bike after they messed it up. Instead I'm leaving this 1 star review because when these guys screw something up, you pay for it. read more

I just got back my bike without any fix and paid quite amount labor charge. I left this bike for fixing Di2 front derailleur not working issue 3 weeks ago. After a call for approving replacing a junction box I couldn't get any update for 2 weeks. I tried to contact this bike shop I only could get voice mailbox. There were no reply for voice mails so I left 2 more voice mails. Still no answer so I visited to find status. I only heard there was wrong order in junction box. OK I will wait for. Still no update so I called but couldn't get clear answer. I got back my bike today and I hooked up Shimano e-Tube program and did diagnostic myself. Immediately it asked the firmware update and say left side shifter not connected. I removed bartape and push back the connector. It works again. So, I paid for my stupidity and learning how to use eTube for diagnostics. I don't mind paying for that but I can't say they had connected and performed diagnostics at least once. After I fully assembled the bike, I brought it in for a final tuneup and a few other adjustments, and the bike runs great! Poor communication between front desk staff and mechanics. Paid for a repair on a brand new bike after given a quote for a free repair. 2 days after dropping almost 4K on a bike then having to pay money for a longer cable seems pretty ridiculous. Management didn't step up and comp a 18$ cable means I won't be back here. Make sure you get the quotes signed by staff because their "honor system" just doesn't work. Go to a bike shop where they actually want your business and care about having happy customers. read more

Came in to get first "real" bike for my 10 year old. Absolutely zero passion or excitement from the two guys working. Other local shops will talk about fit, various options, and recommendations, and throw in something like a water bottle holder or clips to get a new rider pumped up and make it a great experience. Didn't bother to mention the Presta valves - I noticed and I have an adapter. Typical new bike buyer should be made aware of stuff like that. This place couldn't have been more indifferent or cared less that we were making a big purchase as a new customer. Happy to charge full price with zero effort. Thumbs down. read more

Its been very tough and hectic during this covid pandemic and has tried all of our patience and faith. I bought a bike from Poway Bicycle at the pandemics start to replace my going to the gym and as a means of mental and physical therapy and release to stay in shape and to keep from losing my mind. Since then I have had several maintenance and repair issues due to the large number of miles and and use I put on my bike. In EVERY instance Poway Bike has been prompt and effecient in taking care of my needs immeadiatly and with little greif or hassles. They have kept me going inspite of record business , sales and parts shortages due to the pandemic. Had this shop do some basic swapping of parts from one bike to another a few months ago. On the first ride, noticed that non-driveside crank was coming loose because the crank preload cap was not even installed (something no competent shop should miss). It would have fell off with another few rides. Upon notifying the shop, the response was that they test ride each bike afterwards in the parking lot - apparently this test ride doesn't do much. A few further problems showed up about a month later, for example the derailleur hanger bolt had come loose and was causing shifting issues. I can't say for sure this is due to the shop, but then again I've never had this problem anywhere else. Fast forward to today, I was re-installing the parts that had been taken off the old bike onto another bike. Turns out the bag of parts they returned to me was missing some small items, such as headset spacers and headset top cap. It also appears a crank spacer might be missing. All small items, but the attention to detail (or lack of it) is what separates this shop from others. Overall, there are several better options in San Diego if you're looking for a more professional shop. I suggest putting your money elsewhere. read more
