Caffe Cocina "The Good, the bad, and the ugly"…read more Caffe Cocina is surprisingly busy, perhaps due the the Finn Hill Road drive through? I have very mixed feelings about this local Poulsbo, and soon to be Silverdale, establishment. The good: Caffe Cocina's food is arguably the best reason to visit one of their cafes. In particular, the chicken chorizo breakfast burritos are really delicious! The drink selection is extensive with some innovative twists on lattes and other coffee and tea based drinks. Unfortunately, I really judge a coffee shop on its ability to brew a really flavorful cup of black coffee - I will come back to that later in the review. The bad - The Finn Hill road location has mediocre to bad customer service depending on the day and the shift. Unless you are a charismatic individual under the age of 30, you are likely to be received with no shortage of attitude and general disdain...as if it is your pleasure to be ignored for as long as possible and then to have your order taken with the type of apathy that I would normally approach a Monday morning work conference call where you know you are going to have to listen to that one coworker that seems enamored with their ability to ask questions on points already sufficiently covered...I digress. The downtown location has much friendlier service, so head there if you do not require drive through services. The ugly - The coffee and coffee beans, probably tolerable if you are having an espresso-based drink, but I would shy away from the drip coffee and the beans for brewing coffee at home. The coffee is frankly over roasted, too oily, and decidedly one note for most of the beans that I have tried. I have sampled dark, medium, light roasts and single origins and have not tried anything worth recommending. Should this have been a 3 or a 4 star review? That depends on the location you are visiting and what you are visiting for. If you simply focus on the downtown location, I would by default increase this to a (4) star review due to the excellent customer service and the fact that they offer a pour over (unfortunately, the coffee is still mediocre). If you are visiting the Finn Hill location for anything other than the food, I stand by my (3) star review which is frankly generous given my experience most visits.

After waiting in the drive-thru, I was told everything was in the bag. Later, I realized one of the protein boxes was missing. Because that item had been meant for my preschooler's lunch, simply offering me the missing item later did not solve the problem. I returned to the store that evening and requested a refund for the item I paid for but never received. What should have been a simple customer service issue became unnecessarily difficult. I was initially told a receipt was required. Once I located the receipt, I still was not given the refund. The interaction escalated, police were called, and the situation became far more stressful than it ever should have been, especially with my children present. I understand employees deal with difficult situations, but this could have been resolved quickly by acknowledging the mistake and refunding the missing item. Instead, the matter was handled in a way that felt dismissive and unprofessional. I am updating this because, at the heart of it, my concern was never complicated: I paid for an item I did not receive and expected reasonable customer service. Unfortunately, that is not what happened.

Space City Donuts has an incredible selection of flavors and options, it's genuinely hard to narrow it down to just a dozen each time we visit. Everything we've tried has been delicious, and there's always something a little different or interesting to choose from. The staff are also fantastic: friendly, welcoming, and QUICK. You can walk in, grab an amazing box of donuts, and get on with your day. What a concept! Obviously they're at their absolute best fresh the same day, but we've found they hold up surprisingly well for a couple of days too. Great donuts, tons of variety, great people, and no need to dedicate half your morning to waiting in a tourist line. Space City has absolutely become our go-to donut shop in Poulsbo.

Usually just one Barista when they open but they always seem happy to be there and go above and beyond by bringing the food and drink out to the table. Cars come barreling down behind you, and there is no dedicated left hand turn lane. The coffee ladies mentioned that nearby residents do not want to put a left turning lane on the highway to allow safe turns into this residence that serves as the coffee shop. For beverage I got cold brew and asked for light cream. It came out looking very pale brown. There was so much cream that I could not taste the coffee.
