    Traditional beef brisket hotpot
    Mike L.

This hidden gem in Scarborough offers a hotpot experience good for singles or group. Their spicy seasoned lamb chops are so good. The traditional beef brisket hot pot has a lot of meat. You can even have them refill your soup. The place can be a little cramped during weekend evenings but our food came so quick.

Found a long string of a steel wool in my noodle. Absolutely dangerous and unacceptable.

The use of traditional elements, paper-cut window designs, red Spring Festival couplets, old-style newspaper wall coverings, and exposed brick adds a strong sense of nostalgia. It feels immersive and intentional, almost like stepping into a countryside home in Dongbei rather than a typical restaurant. The décor isn't fancy, but it's rich in cultural detail and warmth, perfectly matching the hearty, comforting style of Northeast Chinese cuisine. The space is unique and perfect for taking photos. The food here is very generous. We ordered the 4-person set with two side pots. Tomato Braised Beef Brisket and Chicken Stewed with Mushrooms and the portions were huge. Both pots arrived steaming hot and filled to the brim, clearly meant for sharing. The braised beef was rich and hearty, while the chicken pot was comforting and full of flavor, making it perfect for group dining or cold weather meals. Combined with the rustic, traditional décor, it really feels like authentic Northeast Chinese comfort food. The food and atmosphere were excellent, though the service was a bit lacking. Prices are reasonable for the generous portion sizes and the unique restaurant décor.

The highlight is the Iron Pot Stew (Tie Guo Dun), an interactive, communal dining experience where a massive iron pot is integrated directly into your table. Diners gather around as meats, seafood, and vegetables simmer in a rich, flavorful broth, filling the air with enticing aromas. Beyond the immersive stew, the restaurant shines with large portions of classic Dongbei dishes and flawless, homemade dumplings. The rustic, nostalgic decor successfully transports guests to a traditional Chinese village setting, enhancing the meal's authenticity. Service is attentive, with staff expertly managing the stew and adding fresh cornbread dough to the pot's sides, which steams to perfection. Happy Valley Village is a must-try for groups seeking great value, a festive atmosphere, and an incredibly satisfying and novel way to share a meal

One waitress and owner himself serving at dinner time on Sunday. The quality of food is consistent and worth the price. The usual dish I order everytime is pork belly that hangs on a cute wooden stack. There's a new menu item this time that we came around, which is the seafood mixed plate. The use of peppercorn is spared, the emphasis are more on sour and spicy... sugar seldom used in the cooking process... so don't expect any sweet and sour item on the menu. The waitress here speak Mandarin and really helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. Shredded Potato Salad ($5.99) - Potato crispy and fresh... but lacking the spicy kick as compare to other places I been to Shaanxi Cold Steamed Noodle ($2.99) - The Noodle are the thicker and wider versions - again not spicy enough... and this is supposed to be a 2 chili dish - the dried tofu puffs has a really interesting texture... which I enjoyed Beef Noodles with Lanzhou Style Soup ($5.99) - The soup based is clear broth but has good flavours... - noodles though not hand pulled which is $1 extra has this nice, chewy texture and without that doughy taste.. - Beef is more like the preserved type... dried and chewy not the melt in the mouth tender - good value for the money! The portion is huge!! Note, the waitress recommended some of the Soup Filled Buns which is their specialities, might have to try those out... They are reasonable priced $4/6 but for 2 of us... if we ate 3 of those buns, we cannot eat anything else! No Lunch Specials but they are have 10% off Grand Opening discount!

We arrived around 1pm on Saturday, and this place was full. They have only 5-6 tables. We were lucky to get our table in a few minutes, but even after we were seated, until we leave - there were customers/food delivery persons constantly in-and-out. We had: B12. Pork with Crab Meat Steamed Bun D7: Pork and Celery Dumpling (boiled) P1: Pan fried pot stickers N3: Braised beef brisket noodles C11: Black fungus in vinegar sauce Food came fast, and our small table got full of food!! EVERYTHING was great. I love the wrapper of each dumplings, each has own "wheat-y flavor" itself. Each dumpling wrapper hits a perfect thickness/thinness. And they were flawlessly/carefully cooked - boiled/steamed to achieve soft and chewy texture, pan fried to execute crispy, soft and chewy texture. The each filling hits perfect seasoning balance - and juicy! Delicious! B12 Crab XLB & P1 Pot stickers are the must-order items. If you don't know which dumpling to try, then I highly recommend D7 (Celery and Pork, boiled). Juicy with this refreshing crunchy celery texture and gentle grassy aroma. Full of juice! Careful :) N3 noodle was also tasty and generous. The noodle texture was chewy and had a nice bite. A LOT of meat pieces. Last but not the least - C11, black fungus was soooo refreshing. Every bite was enjoyable. Very mildly seasoned with vinegar based dressing and garlic, mixed with freshly chopped coriander. Simple and delicate, showing their culinary confidence. I will come back, I cannot wait to try other dumplings!

Deep fried oyster - huge oysters! Very fresh and delicious. Batter is light and crispy, oyster had good flavor and giant pieces. Steamed fish - fresh from the tank and you can taste it! Garnished perfectly. Lobster - also very fresh and lots of meat. Chicken - felt like we got a massive chicken as the plate was huge. Nice and tender with good flavor on the skin. Pea sprouts and mushrooms - very fresh, no "old" or "hard" pieces. The 3 types of mushroom was also really nice contrast to the pea sprouts. Everything cooked well. Pork chop - has a sweet glaze and is deep fried nicely. Shrimp and scallops with celery and beans - the seafood and scallops were cooked well, as were the celery and beans. Crispy vegetables with tender shrimp and scallop. Price: Reasonable (maybe even in the low end) for all the food and quality you get.

It seems a lot of people tend to come here for takeout, as you don't see a lot of people dining in. Admittedly, it doesn't look like the most pleasant seating experience, but I think it's still doable. You might struggle to communicate if you don't speak Mandarin, but it's definitely doable. We got the pan fried buns, beef and carrot steamed bun, pork and shrimp steamed bun, wontons, and fresh tofu pudding. The pan fried buns are really juicy Their steamed buns are nice and fluffy. You really got to question the difference between these and the ones you can get in grocery stores, but it's so cheap I don't think it really matters. Their wontons are pretty standard. They have a nice thin skin and plenty of filling. The star of the show has to be the fresh tofu pudding! It's really nice and savory with nice, soft, and jiggly tofu. I definitely recommend you trying this! This is a great place to grab a bun or 2 for a snack, or to enjoy some lovely tofu! I'll definitely be coming back!
