Cute decor, mediocre food, not worth the hype. After seeing the hype of this spot on social media, I was having higher than usual expectations. However, I thought the food was just okay, a tad bland and nothing special. Here's what we got: Jelly fish app 3/5 - Okay dish. Nothing amazing for highlighting. Fried chicken 3.5/5 - This was okay and came with spices and ketchup for dipping. Small river shrimps 4/5 - Probably one of the better items on the menu. Great or sharing since they're so small. Braised pork belly clay pot rice 3/5 - It looks way better than it tastes imo. It's saucey but lacks a lot of flavour and salt! Potato chicken clay pot rice 2/5 - Super bland. To the point where I had to ask for soy sauce but they brought me black vinegar (lol). Overall, I didn't really enjoy my meal here as I thought everything was under seasoned and lacked a lot of flavour. While many diners gravitate toward the braised pork belly, I knew the richness would be too much for me. Instead, I went with the golden satay beef pot rice ($22.99), which proved more up my alley. The satay flavour is subtle, with the well-marbled brisket tasting closer to Taiwanese braised beef with just a hint of earthiness. The rice itself was deeply flavoured, and the sauce helped form a beautifully caramelized crust, which was exactly what I was hoping for! That said, the beef cuts were hit-or-miss. Some pieces were tender and flavourful, while others were tough and gristly and really should have been discarded. The surprise standout? Soft, chewy pieces of tendon that were easily my favourite part, and I wished there had been more. Diners choose a rice base of bok choy with salted pork or mushroom and diced beef. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be a vegetarian option. I stuck with the beef base, which worked overall, though the "diced beef" was really halved beef balls like those you'd find at hot pot restaurants. The mushrooms, meanwhile, were sparse and felt like an afterthought. Rice and Flame could also rethink the order in which dishes are served. After such a flavourful start, the rainbow braised chicken pot rice ($19.99) felt flat by comparison. Even the theatrical shaving of an herb, resembling a small log of wood, over the rice didn't help. To this day, I'm not sure what it was or what it contributed. The chicken and potatoes were tender, but aside from a faint lingering spice, the dish lacked depth. Worse, the rice was overly oily and failed to develop much of a crust - the very thing claypot rice is celebrated for! Life has a funny way of making you feel old. I soon realized this "ancient" technique is exactly how claypot rice was prepared when I was younger except with modern toppings now instead of preserved meats, chicken, and spareribs. What stood out most at Rice and Flame was an intense charcoal flavour, especially in the chicken dish, which crossed the line into overpowering for me. Thankfully, we ended on a high note with the brown sugar glutinous rice cake ($6.99). The oozing syrup inside helped wash away that almost butane-like aftertaste. These were excellent - a crisp exterior giving way to a soft, chewy centre with a rich, molasses-like sweetness. I couldn't finish the chicken rice, but these disappeared in a flash. read more

If I ever have a craving for stone pot rice, this will be my go to. This place does a great job with dedicated unique stone pots that are bigger than normal. They retain tons of heat and continue to sizzle long after the servers drop them off at your table. For those of you who like crispy rice, there are lots because there's lots of surface area. We had the following: Signature pork belly rice was the best dish. They gave tonnes of meat, and it was very unctuous, with great flavour. Would certainly order this again. Mapo tofu rice was surprisingly nice. I kind of consider this non-standard because I haven't seen it on stone pot before, but it worked. My wife likes spicy and would have preferred this to be way spicier, though. Crispy pork intestines were cooked very nicely and were a sizable order. They provided a spice dip, which was Nice. I've been searching for a good claypot rice restaurant with wok hay and this is it! We got several different bowls and they were all incredible in their own way. My favourite was the pork. Braised pork - got it with the pork and bok choy heart rice. honestly a bit disappointing and I've had better even cooked by friends. Stumble upon this place during a Friday night in the plaza. Noticed that it was absolutely packed so we decided to try. The restaurant decoration is very cozy with very friendly staff. You can order through the app or through the server, we had them explain the menu to us. We ordered the: Kung pao chicken clay pot rice with beef and cabbage rice: served with peanuts, lots of boneless chicken and spices. A little spicy but very manageable. Super flavourful and the portion size is very reasonable, you can easily share between two people - 9/10 Braised Pork Belly clay pot rice: served with mushroom rice and quail eggs. Slightly sweet and really soft braised soy sauce pork. Bursting with umami flavour! Really enjoyed this one - 9/10 Chilli pig ears with cilantro: wanted to try something new and unique. Tasted really good, not very spicy and very flavourful. Served cold - 8/10 Overall we loved this placed, since this time I've already come back once and got the VIP membership to get 10% discount. In the older Scarboro Village plaza, got in just before the rush on a Friday evening (~6:30) as a group of 4, so was able to try a few things. Busy spot with cute tables and cups. Like several people have mentioned already - very worth it to get the membership as it's only $20 but you get a free claypot rice (and they apply it on the most expensive one) and you get a small discount on some other items. Ordered several clay pot rices -Signature Braised Pork Belly, Imperial Buddha's Feast, and Golden Satay, where you're also supposed to choose the "base rice". And some fried dishes - Pork Intestines, Scallion Pork Bites. The Pork Belly and Golden Satay were packed with ingredients and very flavourful. The Imperial Buddha's Feast also had a lot of things, but flavour-wise is much more subtle, and is more like a soupy rice. Honestly could not tell the difference for the base rice options. Fried dishes were also tasty. Service was VERY good - water cups never went empty, and staff also patiently explained the benefits and how to apply for the membership. read more

Delicious and affordable! The ceiling is decorated with lots of paper lanterns that brighten the whole restaurant. They've got a beautiful collection of clay pots that adorn the walls and each meal is served in one of these pretty pots! Had dinner here for two. Plenty of seating, great for 2-4 people! 5 stars for the service more like 4.5 stars for the food. The ambiance and interior of the restaurant is super pretty. Rice and Flame is pretty new to the area and kind of lowkey still but the chinese locals know this spot for sure! They have amazing chinese clay pot rice dishes and the most popular pork belly dish was sold out for dinner. We got the traditional chicken and spicy mapo tofu. I like how the rice gets super crispy and definitely recommend the mushroom rice for the base. I think if we only got one dish it would've plain but both dishes together were great. The soup nothing really special, complimentary tea was nice and workers were constantly coming around to check up on the table which is super nice! but seriously look at the interior !! Restrooms were clean as well. Parking may be hard to find but you will eventually find it! read more

Super cozy, clean, and aesthetic spot for clay pot rice. The slay pots come with plenty of sauce, and the rice at the bottom has that perfect crispy layer. I also loved the little details like the chopsticks with tiny red hearts, which were super cuteee. We ordered the kung pao chicken and the braised chicken, and both were delicious. I personally preferred the braised chicken since it had a little hint of spice. We also tried the crispy scallion pork bites. They looked a bit different from the photo (we expected scallions on top), but they were still super crispy and came with a dry rub that added great flavor. My boyfriend loves rice and meat, so this was the perfect spot for him. They also have a wide variety of other rice and meat dishes that I'd love to try next time. They're currently offering a VIP special for $20, you get discounts on all menu items plus one free clay pot rice, which you can use right away or save for later. It's definitely worth it--especially since something like the Buddha's Feast pot is $26, meaning you're essentially getting a free meal along with ongoing discounts. And the VIP is a lifetime subscription so you don't have to pay again. Not sure how long the promo will last, but it's a great deal if you plan on visiting more than once. Tha ambiance and decor is full of wooden furnitures and lantern lights. Very relaxing and soothing. They are known for their clay pot rice. We ordered the Signature Braised Pork Belly Pot Rice. It was tasty, there were quail eggs inside and the braised pork was nicely marinated in small cubes. Not too heavy. The Imperial Buddha's Feast Pot Rice has a nice seafood sweet flavour to it. A little too much ricer though. Personally, I prefer more soup. The Abalone, Fish Maw, Sea Cucumber, Scallops, Squid, Chicken makes the rice so flavourful! The greens was not bad. The Crispy Boneless Yellow Croaker, you really need to dip or mix it with the spice to get the flavours out, otherwise the fish on its own tasted rather bland. The original rice ice cream was very tasty, not too sweet with some crunch topping and edible flowers. Tasted like a light mochi flavour ice cream! Very unique. I will come back to try other items! If you're looking for a claypot rice, then it's not what you're looking for. The food here is more like braised meat on top of rice, but the topping was lacking flavour and the rice didn't have enough of the burnt edges. I heard great things about their restaurant on Instagram and the place looked busy at 6pm on Saturday night, so I thought it must be good to try. We ordered the Buddah's Feast and Rainbow Braised Chicken pot, along with Sichuan Style Beef Shank and Chinese Lettuce with Dace. I think the Chinese Lettuce was my favourite part...It's a little too salty for my taste but I did like the flavour the dace with black bean sauce brings. The Sichuan Style Beef Shank tasted good too, but the portion was small and did not look like the picture. The rice pots came later since it takes time to cook fresh. The Rainbow Braised Chicken came first and it was so disappointing! There were more potatoes than chicken and that little wood shaving they added table side didn't really add much flavour. The sauce was bland as well especially mixed in with white rice, so I ended up adding the sauces from the appetizers. The Buddah's Feast was better in terms of toppings since it contained more seafood, but again, not enough flavour to mix with the rice. I wish we can have some soy sauce at the table like the traditional claypot rice restaurants. For prices, you can get a discount if you pay for the $20 membership. We joined because they said they can waive the entire cost of the Buddah's Feast while also giving us a discount on the other dishes. So the bill came from $80s to $60s, not bad for a first time visit, but I likely won't be back. read more

They serve Claypot rice which is flavorful in different flavors. The menu option is abit limited thou. We tried the Buddha feast Claypot rice which is not commonly seen. The rice is cooked soaked in the broth so it's on the softer side but at the bottom there's still abit of charred rice, making some part crispy. The hidden menu, golden broth pickled fish is more on the sour side and not overly salty so you are able to drink it, perfect for a cold day. read more

Went on a cold evening in Toronto. This seems like a fairly new place in Toronto. The atmosphere is very nice and welcoming. Lanterns on the top and a single washroom at the back. Overall , the service is very good and you can reserve your table online or in person. We order a few dishes to try out. Most of the dishes were pretty well done. The food is also affordable for many people. Hopefully they expand the menu in the future. Will return in the future. 4.5 stars overall. read more

There are no reservations for parties less than 2 but you can call in to be on wait list for parties larger than 2 and can reserve for large parties. There is an electronic wait list at the entrance.
