This place has always been great. Always kept their consistency. So I decided to finally write a review for them on Yelp. The food is where it's at. I would rate it 10/10, cause you can just taste the wok "air". The environment is not the cleanest. But it's not bad either. Service is great! Talkative staffs and willing to help. We had the oyster and it was so fresh and so flavourful. The salt and pepper pork chop is my ultimate favourite! Check this place out! read more

It's always our go-to place for dinner although I don't post every time. This time we ordered pickled vegetables with minced pork claypot rice, it was ok. Our other ala carte orders included steamed oysters, sweet and sour chickens and a stir fried dish. All these 3 dishes were good, the oysters were big in size, fresh and tasty; this was our first time ordering the stir fried dish, it was really good, I'll order again next time. We ended up taking away balance for another meal. read more

We arrived on a Saturday about two weeks ago at around 7:50pm. The restaurant was full, so we waited. Around 8:10pm, a large table for eight became available, but since it was just the two of us, the staff wouldn't let us sit there. We asked if we could just sit first and move to a smaller table when one became free, but the server said they wouldn't let us switch tables. The server also said that if a group of 3-4 people came in, we would have to share the table with them. Just when we thought we could finally sit, the server told us we still had to wait until a group arrived who didn't mind sharing. They also said a smaller table was almost done paying. In the end, we waited about another 15 minutes until a group of four came in, and only then were we seated at the big table and shared it with them. Overall, we waited for more than half an hour. I felt the arrangement was not very thoughtful. It seemed like they didn't want extra work and were expecting larger groups, so even though there was a free table, they still didn't let us sit--only for us to end up sharing anyway after waiting so long. As for the food, each table gets a complimentary soup. We ordered the Beef with Bean Curd & Vegetable in Hot Pot and the Chinese Sausage and Chicken with Chinese Mushroom. Both dishes were decent and flavorful. The claypot rice was the highlight--you could scrape a good amount of crispy rice at the bottom, though I wish the amount of chicken in it was a bit more. They also gave us two small pieces of red bean pudding at the end, and we were pretty full by then. Overall, the food was good, but the service felt pretty average. I would recommend coming during off-peak hours if you want a better experience. read more

First time visiting this restaurant and wasn't too impressed. Went here for dinner, portion sizes were good as well as service but didn't find the dishes had much flavour to it. Ordered minced beef with parsley soup and minced beef and egg rice in clay pot. Would give it another try as others seem to enjoy their food and the restaurant was full. read more

This is a long standing restaurant in New Kennedy Square. Staff are friendly and nice. I had 3 dish set ($45) and it came with complimentary soup and dessert. The clay pot rice ($21) with preserved meats and sausage was OK. I had better in HK. They don't leave the lid on to steam after you put soy sauce in which is suppose to be how it's done. A clean restaurant to Chinese standards w clean washroom is a good start. read more

In terms of Chinese cuisine, the performance of this place can be considered average. However, I must commend their Mei Cai Kou Rou (Braised Pork Belly with Preserved Vegetables). It is cooked to perfection, very flavorful, and made with fatty pork, which gives it a delightful texture. On the other hand, their clay pot rice is nothing special at all. If you go there, I would recommend trying some stir-fried dishes instead. There's no need to specifically order the clay pot rice. read more

After seeing someone's Reels, we really wanted to try, but last time, we were on lunch time to call, they were not open until 4pm at night. We went to Good Taste Casserole Rice restaurant for take out instead. So this time, I would like to try this one. We went in about 4:30pm, that not really busy, only one table so far. We would like to have take out, the staff give us the menu as same as dine-in menu. For casserole rice, there were different flavors, and the portion size said for 2, 3, 4...she said that is one order enough for 2 ppl or more. We ordered a casserole dish for 2, and requested to have soup as well. She was ok with that. 20 mins to be back. We went to the mall next door, then went back in 30 mins. Our order was ready. We opened it when we got home, there was no any veggie, we had to make some veggie with it. Then tried the casserole dish, the rice was more than half box, and the meat was not on the top, it was all at left side of the box, and others was all rice. We felt like the whole box was full of rice only. The taste was ok, but really no meat no veggie. The soup was free. We couldn't complain, it was cheaper than Good Taste. I guess next time, I would like to try bowl for one, then order 2 to see how would that be. read more

This place was so busy on a Saturday night and we were lucky to get a table for two. We ordered a Vancouver Dungeness crab for $55 and a clay pot rice. The crab was fried and coated with salted eggs - so so yummy and the meat was fresh and sweet! Clay pot rice was done perfectly with ample Chinese sausage, liver sausage and pressed preserved duck for $25. Our waitress was very friendly and the food came out quickly. We highly recommend this restaurant. Portions are big and tasty too! If you like the hustling and busting ambience, this is the place!! read more

Came here on a Wednesday night and it was surprisingly packed. All tables were seated and luckily I was seated right away since a table had just left. It's a pretty small restaurant and tables are pretty close together. It's a typical Chinese restaurant with shared dishes on the menu. The prices for the dishes are a bit more expensive than most restaurants. I ordered a 3 dish combo meal and 1 Chiu Chow style oyster porridge. The total bill was around $71 for 4 dishes. My favourite dishes were the porridge and the pork. The beef brisket and beans were way too salty. The combo comes with free soup and after dinner, you get free dessert as well. We got red bean jello. I would come again as the flavours were good. Service was good too. read more

Had some friends visiting from out town and took them here for a taste of typical Chinese food from Hong Kong. Pot rice are okay and have decent portions. The eggplant pot was really good. We popped by Bowl Kee for a late supper run seeing as quite a few places were closing early on a monday night. This restaurant has good A/C and the lady helping us out speaks English pretty well too. They also have a nice machine for payment. Here was what we ordered: Fried Noodle w/ Beef & Black Bean Sauce (around $16+)/ Grouper + Bean Curd in Claypot (around $23+)/ Green Bean w/ Garlic (around $17+). Also came with the house soup of pork + corn. The house soup is surprisingly tasty and the lady was nice to pack us a fresh house soup portion to go. Our beef was cooked a bit rare where you see red and such so I asked the lady if we ate this would we get sick...The lady was friendly to have the cook redo it better this time without a fuss as you know sometimes when you go to a Chinese restaurant they fight you tooth and nail about kitchen issues... Surprisingly decent supper but price point seemed a little high now a days... Food: 3.5/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: Standard I guess 3/5 read more

Everything was delicious we came here for a meal set that had fish, lobster, veggie, chicken and they offered a free sweet and sour dish. Not the best in terms of seating, but the great food makes up for the ambiance. Every now and then, our family will crave the hot pot rice and dishes here, and we will have to come to satisfy our cravings. Even my teenager who normally doesn't fancy Chinese cuisine said this is the only restaurant that she doesn't mind going... and coming from her, that is a big compliment indeed. It seems like we always order the same things, as if you are like us, family with kids age 7-15, you will order things they enjoy rather than risk having them pick on dishes that are more to adults' palettes. (If it was up to be, I would order the steam patty and oyster hotpot...) The hotpot rice is a must order item. We usually request just the regular Chinese sausage rather than their regular and liver sausage combo. They also have other varieties, but our very conservative children only love Chinese sausages.. sweet and sour pork is also a good pick, especially since they deep fry their pork to a delicious crispy texture, which is very difficult to do at home. I also enjoy the chicken that comes with the pick # of dishes combos that you can order. Overall, I can't say enough good things about this place. You will just need to try it yourself. But do call ahead to reserve a table, or go early (they open at 5pm), cause seats do fill up fast. read more

The Bowl Kee Restaurant has always been my late late night eating spot in the area. The menu is small compared to a lot of other Cantonese restaurants in the area but what they serves are decent and comforting especially after last call! Oil and Saucy and everything serves sizzling hot. Eggplant with Spicy meat sauce in a hot pot is one of my favourite dish here. The clay pot rice which suppose to be their speciality though never wow me. Deco was the same as long as I remember.. but if you are hungry and half drunk, that's the last thing you would have notice!! read more

The Bowl Kee Restaurant has been opened for quite some time. They're known for their clay pot rice. Whenever I'm craving for their clay pot rice this place never disappoints! Not only do they serve clay pot rice, they also offer many other Chinese dishes. My two favorite things to order other than the clay pot rice is their preserved veggies pork belly and the sweet and sour fish. Many of their other dishes they offer pair very well with the clay pot. The aroma once the food is served leaves me drooling haha. I'm happy that they offer a wide selection on their menu and even when I order different dishes it never disappoints! The employees are also super friendly and it definitely feels like a cozy restaurant where you bring your family to enjoy a nice delicious meal! Reminder that it's cash only ! read more

My last visit was early 2020 before the Pandemic shut things down. After this visit I heard that they had changed owners. Early Sep 2021 I decided to dine in after the new owners had took over. They renovated a bit and have more dining space overall (currently reduced due to health protocols) and it's definitely brighter inside. Order (our usual): Chicken/Chinese Sausage/Mushrooms Rice for 2, Spicy Squid, Chinese Broccoli with Beef. I am very pleased to say that they've stayed true to the original recipes and the food is still fantastic. They are also still serving the red bean squares for dessert. We will continue coming to our favourite restaurant! read more

Known for their clay pots. Free parking as it's located in a plaza. We ordered 2 clay pots (each is suppose to be a serving size for 3) and 6 other dishes. Let's say this is way too much for 6 adults and 4 kid who aren't big eaters. We definitely had a lot of left overs for another meal. We got the cured meat (3 types) clay pot and a chicken, mushroom, Chinese sausage clay pot. For 3 serving size the size was pretty big, much like for 6 people honestly. I felt like the topping wasn't as much, a lot of rice that's for sure. We got other random dishes to try and for the kids, which was ok. If I were to come back will just get the clay pot. Dishes don't come with rice, and they charge by the bowl. Service was good but it's a smaller restaurant so easy to see if customer needs something. Enough staff working which is a plus and made service better too. read more

I was craving clay pot rice and had this place bookmarked forever, so I finally tried it out. I felt a bit underwhelmed by it as I felt it lacked in flavour. Lots of rice and Chinese preserved sausage, but not that much in spare ribs. I wished there was more crispy rice bits. It was pricey at $18. read more

I am SO happy Bowl Kee opened back up. They did change owners recently and we were hesitant to go back so soon they re-opened. But judging from the previous Yelp the old owners are still around to help transition and the boss lady from before did pick up when we called in. We ordered: 1. Sweet & Sour Chicken: MY FAVORITE!! The pieces of chicken were huge, the skin was crispy, the flavor was on point! 2. Snow Peas with Garlic: Done well and fresh, no complaints. 3. Tenderloin Beef: I feel like this was a tad too sweet and more onions than protein 4. Eggplant with Chicken: This was okay. I was pretty disappointed as I wanted their eggplant with deep-fried fish. I hope they bring this back soon. 5. 2 of the Bowl Jai Fan (rice): NOT ordering this again for take out. The rice was soggy and just overall not very appetizing for $26 each. This was not the appealing dish I had come to associated with the restaurant. The place has 20% off right now so definitely worth it to give it a try. read more

After my co worker telling me to come back to try, I've listened to her advice and this is my second time returning to this restaurant. The casserole rice is good as always. The set dinner where you have the dishes to choose from is very reasonably priced, good selection and good portion. My mom and brother loves their sweet and sour pork, it's very crunchy on the outside. Yesterday the sweet and sour pork was cut a little bigger than normal but they still liked it. Overall, good place for Chinese food! read more

I've not had clay pot rice since I was in Kindergarten, though I still had a faint recollection of what it tasted like. I was yearning for it, and decided to go to Bowl Kee hoping to try clay pot rice for the first time in many years. The experience met and exceeded my expectations. My family and I got the Chinese sausage, chicken, and mushroom clay pot rice. What makes clay pot rice so unique is that, unlike many other rice dishes, the rice is not first made via a rice cooker - it's cooked directly from the pot with the other ingredients. The rice at the bottom absorbs all the flavors of the ingredients at the top, and you can add soy sauce for a little extra flavor. Everything came together perfectly, and the chicken was quite flavorful when paired with mushrooms and Chinese sausage. Adding just a little bit of soy sauce gave the dish the little kick that it needed. In addition to that, we also ordered fish ball and tofu soup as well as sweet and sour ribs. The soup was absolutely divine, with the fish balls tasting more homemade than store bought. The sweet and sour ribs had a lot of good wok hei, and the ribs themselves had a very nice texture to them. I'm always a fan of authentic Chinese food, but I infrequently get to experience a meal this tasty and yet so homely. With only one taste, Bowl Kee has become one of my favorite restaurants to eat at in the Markham area. read more

For a place specializing in casserole/clay pot rice, I was really expecting more. They have these casserole rice dishes that are meant to serve 2/3/4 people and they're meant to be a good deal at what equates to about $10/person. However, they really aren't that big. Our 2 person rice could have been eaten by about 1.5 average eaters. It was also rather bland, even after adding their soy sauce. The ribs were bland. The soy sauce was watery. The rice crust wasn't crispy enough. We also got a few other entree dishes that aren't really worth noting other than that they were quite expensive for what we were given. Dessert was red bean in coconut milk jello. It isn't the prettiest thing ever. It tasted alright. All in all, I wouldn't rush to come back. Funny story: I know service at Chinese restaurants is spotty sometimes, and brisk and efficient is the aim of the game, but I can't remember the last time I heard one server yell halfway across the restaurant to another server. Oh dear. read more

I don't understand how this place is not one star. The servers were great and they were very polite but there was this old lady (most likely the owner) who was giving us all theses bad attitudes. My husband was parking so I sat down with my baby first. While waiting she asked if we were going to order casserole pot rice. I told her I was waiting for my husband then she gave me a very rude look and walked away. We weren't too hungry and therefore ordered a pot of rice for 2 which was $18. While waiting, a server asked if we wanted to add another dish and we said we don't know yet so she left one menu with us. The owner came by again and asked if we were gonna order more food, we said we haven't decided and asked her to leave us the menu, but she gave us another rude expression and took the menu away. The rice was only ok with not much toppings at all. $9 per person for this portion is definitely not worth it. When we asked for the bill, she stood right behind us and waited for us to pay which I really hate. When we left, she had eye contact with us but didn't even say bye. Despite the mean & rude owner, we appreciate all the other servers as they kept chatting with us about our baby and always had a good smile. Definitely won't come back again as we don't just pay for food but also for minimal service. Even if you don't have any good service, at least I don't expect to pay for such crappy attitude! read more

Very delicious food!!!! I took 1 star off due to "cash only" polity in a plaza there seems no ATM available. If your friends bring u there u CANT do AA n it's super awkward to ask them to pay for u if you don't have cash. Take one more star because I always love hot stone rices but their rice so so chewy! I think they tend to make chewy rices so they won't stick on the bowl. But it's literally causing indigestion afterward. If you love to double chew your food n order other dishes in softer texture to balance out then it would help. Usually the salty cured meat in hot stone rice r chewy too so protein n chew hard rice r double trouble for digestive system. I would definitely come back here recommend it to friends!!!! Make SURE bringing someone that read Chinese writing! Their menu has NO English translation so u won't be able to read their menu at all! read more

Although this is a fairly well known restaurant in the area, I think it's starting to slide in quality and in service. Authentic clay pot rice is hard to come by, but if you're going to charge $18 for 2 people it should be loaded with toppings and the base should get a nice crispy shell. It's completely delicious!!! The hot pot rice is sooo good I don't think anywhere else could make it this great. The only thing that is keeping it from giving a 5 star is that the prices are a little high...like the $30/pound typhoon shelter crab hehe but maybe it's totally worth it for some people :p the hot pot rice is pretty worth it. I think the 4 person serving is $25. And it definitely fills 4 people. I was utterly disappointed by this place. For a place that specializes in clay pot rice, they sure did a poor job of it. You can find pot rice in various other places like dim sum or even Congee Queen. This place sells the worst pot rice I've ever had. We had the beef mushroom pot (no rice), and a preserved sausage + spare ribs pot rice. Both were garbage. The spare ribs were quite bony. The rice didn't have a lot of flavor. The pot is overloaded with sausages because otherwise there would be no flavor. If you use quality ingredients and seasoning, you wouldn't rely so much on the sausage. The beef mushroom pot was offensive. Obvious use of tenderizer meaning the quality of the beef pieces were poor. Flavor was just ok. The price points are not even low (to be fair, not terribly expensive either). Some $18 for a pot rice (2 people portion) and about the same for the beef mushroom. No need to come again. This is not acceptable for a place that specializes in one type of dish. read more

Haven't come back in literally two decades I think. Tried them when they first opened and there was a dead mouse on the floor. Told the owner about it and she grabbed my arm screaming saying she was scared!!!! But that is history. This place is now very busy and their menu choices are good. Seating is very packed. TIP: Order a few non pot rice dishes since you expect to wait a while for pot rice to be cooked. Rice is high quality, long grain and whole. Dishes are in good portions. This place needs better ventilation though. read more
