This was my first visit to this store and a first visit in a long while to this franchise. I dropped in here to pick up a couple of their "big" 12" sandwiches for lunch. I used their mobile app to order and pay and the order was ready and on their pickup shelf in the stated 15 minutes prep time. I ordered a big roast beef and provolone sandwich for $12.49 and a big Mediterranean chicken sandwich for $13.39. I didn't interact with any staffers, but before I left the store, I inspected the goods for accuracy as some past Yelp reviews complained about inaccurately prepared mobile orders. My order was accurate and fine. Upon looking, I thought the roast beef content looked skimpy but upon eating, it was satisfactorily plentiful as the beef was largely hidden. Both sandwiches were fresh and satisfying. I'll go with a solid 3.49 stars for this visit. The dining room was spacious, airy, and inviting and I would not hesitate to eat in here either. This is the WORST Potbelly I've been to. I love Potbelly and was excited there was one on my route yesterday before I got to my destination. Never been to this one before and never had an issue at any Potbelly really ... never day never !! I've noticed that at all locations , all the employees have a hat on or their hair pulled back tight . Well the first thing I see is this young man w his hair all crazy curly bushy hair just everywhere !!! All 3 employees were very unkept . I got to the station to order my sand which and there was a bag of bread sitting there with MOLD on it. Now I should have left and run but I didn't I told her about the mold and she told , which I assumed was the manager , he said to just put it in the back. No apology or embarrassment I may add but the girl was apologetic. She threw 4 bags of bread in the back total!!! There were 3 of us total . As we paid I told the guy I have rewards twice ! He rang us up and I said... I HAVE REWARDS , he told me "oh sorry I could only do it while I rang you out" the manager turned around and said I'll do it . He did add it to my account , so guessing the guy was new ?! I threw away half of my sub too, never ever have I done that either !!! I happened again. I have been a regular customer since this location opened. I have had problem with this location in the past but nothing like what I experienced this afternoon. I am in my early 70sa and have a very tiny appetite. I went to this Potbelly and started to order a kids meal. I have done this many times in the past. The associate told me that I couldn't have a kids meal because I was over 12 years old. I said I had a tiny appetite and I didn't want a larger sandwich. I probably mumbled something under my breath (I wouldn't say this to an employee...he was just doing his job). It wasn't the money. I just wanted the smaller sandwich. But we never got to that. I left the restaurant. The associate (I think it was the manager...a very nice looking African American male) who came after me after I left the store and told me to never come back. I never got the name of the employee who I had this interaction with. When I asked for his name he turned his back to me and walked away. I left the restaurant and started to limp to my home across the street. I am 72 years old, I'm 5'4" and weigh 122 pounds. I use a cane. When I was limping home a police officer confronted me and asked me about the interaction that had just occured. Huh? He told me that I had been very loud and disruptive. This seemed very very silly to me. All I wanted was a kids meal due to my small appetite. I would have paid for an adult size meal (which I have done in the past) but like I said the conversation never past the problem with the kids meal. I have been eating at this Potbelly since it first opened. The manager told me to never come back. I said okay. Apparently I was a threat to him because he called the cops on me. Potbelly is the bomb dot com in my book! I had one near me when I was growing up and it was one of the things I missed most when I moved away from the Chicago area! When I relocated to a building across the street and saw this Potbelly, I instantly knew I would be a regular. So far I have been here three times in about a week and a half! I love to get the regular/classic turkey on multigrain with Swiss. None of that extra avocado or whatever they try to upcharge you for crap. All of the sandwiches go though the oven so be prepared for them to be warm. Then I get mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion, Italian seasoning. The bread can sometimes kind of cut your gums it is so crunchy, but I love it. Worth the risk, trust me! I also highly recommend the oatmeal chocolate chip cookies! Soft and delicious! Every time I have been to this location it has not been very crowded, maybe one person in line in front of me. The staff have always been kind, friendly, and quick to make my sandwich. Gave the woman my order and there was a second gentleman that was heading toward the topping area. He asked me what topping I needed and was upset when I asked to add mushrooms to one of the sandwiches before she put them in the oven. He practically groaned and had a horrible attitude the whole way through. Didn't even bother to package my items or even hand me the receipt. When I asked for the receipt he said he had already thrown it away. Terrible experience with ordering delivery for an office (meeting) over the phone. I hated that the employee which took the order, wouldn't accept responsibility for the error. She was insistent that I jacked it up. If I'm missing "my" sandwich, how could I jack up the order. BS! Also, she wouldn't answer the phone and talk to me, another phone person was telling me I should have double checked my order. WHAT?! Oh yea.. So they make me another, cold, it was not creamy, (doesn't "tuna salad" imply creamy?). Can't really do too much of a review since this Potbelly is pretty much the same as others - same menu, same furniture, same good service, and same old same. Food/Drink: food and drink are generically the same as others. Never had a problem with quality and I always get the same sandwich and soup: veggie soup, and as for the sandwiches: pizza, meatball, and the wreck. Also, I'll go for their chicken salad salad - yummy as always with chunks of chicken and the nice chunky vegetables with it. Service: always friendly, ready to serve, just like the other stores. One or two of the gals and guys here tend to be down to earth, to converse a bit. Always a nice touch to pass the time a bit. Misc: same old atmosphere with the usual booth table and chairs, and sometimes the musician on the top platform. It's a generically good place so I'll come here every now and then. read more

Just another sandwich place in sea of sandwich places. I really do miss diversity when I'm out lunch. If you want to try something other then Panera, and are in the mood for soup or a sandwich then there is nothing wrong with this place. Panera may be a little bit more health conscious but at least it changes things up...... Sandwiches are pretty good and very filling, but one draw back is that the menu is bit smaller then others. The first time and last time I was here, it didn't seem to be to packed and if you in a group try to keep it smaller then 6. We had an interesting experience, grabbing some sandwiches just before closing. Our first visit, we ordered two sandwiches, one Pizza sub. The sub was missing meatballs (a favorite of my wife) and we called to submit a complaint, to let them know they missed something. Amanda, the manager, was very responsive and told us to come back when she was working again. Forward to this past week, when I was once again in downtown Des Plaines, and Amanda was the manager on staff. She was very responsive to our issue, and generous in making sure we got to try the Pizza Sub correctly. Very professional, and still respectful of keeping those who would take advantage of a company from doing so. (A pet peeve of mine is when people our out to 'take' corporations - these are businesses with real people trying to do their best.) The sandwiches were very good, considering the price structure and chain restaurant setup. The Pizza Sub was tasty, and my own order of a Roast Beef was excellent! Hands down worst Potbelly I've ever been to. They have forgotten the cheese on my sandwich twice. It looked like the sandwich was dropped on the floor it was so messy and uneven - meat all in the middle. Asked for extra veggies and got a few pieces of lettuce. Their salads are garbage at best. They never have croutons and the lettuce was all the core part with zero flavor. I've had this happen on multiple occasions. One time they said they didn't have tomatoes and was it ok if I had the ones for the sandwiches, after my order was already being made. Sure. They were soggy and overripe. Ugh! After being so disgusted with the quality of this location I submitted a complaint with photo on their website. The regional manager had the store manager contact me. She said she would send me free sandwich coupons and never did. I wrote back to her email and said I didn't get them and she said she would check with corporate. A few weeks later, I wrote her again and said I still didn't receive my coupons. She never replied. I do love Potbelly sandwiches and salads, but this location is a big disappointment. For a place that's usually dead when I go in, they could spend another 2 minutes putting my sandwich or salad together with care. On my way home from work and was starved. So i stopped in and was blown away by the customer service we received at the time there was only 1 employee behind the counter. It was around 330 wed mar 27 the employee was a young Mexican guy thin and tall he was so outgoing and attentive and professional great personality and great smile. Very attractive i might add..Very upbeat and positive. He welcomed us took our order was extremely thorough with what we wanted and what we wanted on it etc. And he made our order correctly and even rang our order up. Answered all our questions too he is very much a asset to this pot belly's seriously hes a hard worker with a good positive attitude and for a young guy he's amazing and has awsome customer service skills. Came here yesterday for the first time with my boyfriend. Small menu didn't really impress me but the employees were very nice and fast!
