The Potato Coop has quickly earned a spot on my must-visit list in Harrisburg and it's all thanks to their fresh cut fries. These things are the real deal. Topped with a perfect amount of cheese sauce, just the right hit of Old Bay, and a nice touch of chives, they absolutely deliver. My one suggestion? Skip the butter. It's unnecessary and ends up making the fries soggy, which is a shame when the fries themselves are this good. We also tried the crab fries, and while the crab meat isn't lump, it's still a solid topping. Just make sure they warm it up, because ours came out cold straight from the fridge sitting on top of hot fries. A small fix that would make a big difference. Now, the hot dog... I'd steer clear. It's deep fried, and mine came out burnt and dry. To make matters worse, it was served on a steak roll that was cold and tough. It just doesn't hold up to the star of the show. Overall, 4 out of 5 stars, and honestly that rating is carried by how incredible those fries are. We'll definitely be back, and next time I'm skipping the hot dog and going straight for more fries and maybe giving their burger a shot. read more

I tried the potato coop in the past as a food truck and when they first opened and I would have given it a solid 3/4 stars BUT I have been seeing their post on facebook and it looked so delicious, I had to give them a second shot! And I am so happy I did! I got a chicken cheesesteak mac & cheese we shared an order of pierogies and my friend got the fried chicken sandwich - wow! I everything was great! I do think their prices are little pricey, but trust me it's worth it! You get a big amount of food and more importantly it is so yummy! Our first time the ambiance it is small to say the least. The staff were friendly. The food the smashed burger was good the coop sauce on it spicy. The perogies were good but I could lose the seasoning it didn't need it. My friend had the buffalo chicken fries she loved. They do not take orders over the phone. You either have to go on or order online. Went with the traditional loaded with waffle fries. Waffle fries are seasoned, a smidge too much pepper for my personal liking. Not enough sour cream. For $11.75 I felt the portion was a bit small, but it was tasty. Cheesesteak with wiz and onions was excellent. Their wiz is on point. I appreciate that they have both seeded and non/seeded rolls. My non-seeded roll was soft and just how I like it! Second time here and these guys really know what they're doing. From the wings, cheesesteaks, fries and potatoes, all really tasty treats. A little pricy, but quality isn't cheap. If you are a fry fan definitely check out potato coop. They have every fry type you can think of, pluses baked potatoes and periods. I went with the chicken cheesesteak fries on waffle fries. Sometimes waffle fries can be soggy but even with all of the toppings these were still crisp and flavorful. A side of coop sauce was a good balance to the saltiness and richness of the chicken cheesesteak. I love fries but they have to be good quality and these were great. The order was ready on time and had just finished being made with I arrived. It was nice to have everything hot and ready to go. On this trip we had a double smash burger and fries. It's 4 days later and my wife is still talking about how good the burger was. We also had the chicken cheesesteak (CA style.) and fries. The cheesesteak was loaded with tender juicy chicken! Very impressed with the portion size. Of course the fries are always spot on. On a future visit I need to try the loaded baked potato! Food is insanely overpriced and there's legit 5 tables to sit at inside the store. You'd think for 50 bucks for amusement park food and a drink you'd have the food brought out to you but you'd be wrong. It's your average insanely over priced west coast styled "smash burger" with a twist that you'll need to take a small loan out for to eat at with your family. You can seriously go sit down at a Italian restaurant for 60 bucks and have a bottle of wine and a three course meal with your wife in a nice atmosphere with a waiter for less than you two can eat here. The wings aren't battered (which isn't a problem, but no flavor on top of that? ), greasy, tasted oddly like pork rinds for some reason, and weren't full wings, so prepare for underwhelming party wings. I've never met a potato I didn't like. But I did meet a potato restaurant that left me disappointed, and that was during my first experience with Potato Coop. My family came to visit, and we were all excited to try some of the many potato options. I didn't actually go into shop because we got take-out, so I can't comment on the service or ambiance. So my review is just focused on the food. The biggest issue I had was the inconsistency with the products. My sister ordered a smashburger loaded potato with curly fries, and I got a pulled chicken loaded potato with curly fries. I would expect this to be the same base with different toppings. However, my portion of curly fries was about twice as much as hers. Plus, the smashburger was barely any protein and the toppings were skimpy. It did not give "loaded" vibes. My chicken was decent but pretty dry, and while the amount of pickles was generous, the amount of sauce was stingy. I ended up sharing my meal with my sister because the serving size was so different. As a customer, I want consistency in products and it doesn't seem like Potato Coop's offering that. read more

*EDIT*** I popped back into the Potato Coop to find out about the "side of fries." The cashier was clueless but we figured it out. You "can" get your choice of fries! There was still some confusion/push back, to me (the customer), from the same young man I encountered the previous time. He obviously needs some customer service skills or should not be interacting with customers at all. He also was not the one at the counter at that time. Now this is what I've been waiting for... they have traditional fries, curly fries, steak fries, tater tots, sweet potato fries, even periogies, baked potatoes and baked sweet potatoes! I chose steak fries when placing my order and my friend (who just finished ordering) asked if she could change hers to sweet potato fries... that's when things got weird. She was told she wasn't "allowed" to change her order because they may have already dropped her fries. No effort to ask. Just No. You can't. Hard stop. Discussion is over... weird, right? So this is new to me. I think out loud, "is it against the rules?," then I asked the gentleman by the kitchen and he said it was fine. But... big but... informs us that only "traditional" fries come with the meal. Anything else is al a carte. Well that's strange because the menu does not specify that and this is a potato coop, right? Well, it's his friend's joint and they are all new staff I'm told. I was totally put off by their customer service. Absolutely horrible. Very flippant and lazy demeanor. I wasn't impressed. I probably won't go back and I wouldn't recommend which is very unlike me. I did request that they ask the owner about his signage and they were speaking to him when we stepped outside to eat. When we finished eating... loved the steak fries btw... I stepped back in to hear the verdict. I waited patiently in line to ask. When I get to the counter, this kid tells me he doesn't know anything and "the friend" left. So I point to the adults cooking in the back (I saw the kitchen staff standing around when "the friend" was speaking to the owner). Kid tells me they're all gone and everyone else just got there, like I'm an idiot. When I leave and tell my friend, she confirms. Those are the same cooks and she frequents the place so none of them are "new" either. I'm glad they have her as devoted customer. I, on the other hand, felt completely dismissed. I wanted this to be so much more than it was. The premise is great, and the branding is perfect (colors, logo, tagline). The inside is streamlined and they have a merchandise stand. The customer service was good and the food was given in a timely manner. What left me disappointed were the inconsistent portions, skimpy extras, and a standard flavor. I actually ate here twice. I saw the cheesesteak and had to try it! Finally a place where you can get Cooper Sharp cheese in a cheesesteak. They actually have five (5) cheese choices; American, Provolone, Cheez Whiz, Cooper Sharp, and Sharp Cheddar. There are two bun choices, seeded and non seeded. I chose the seeded first time around. Unfortunately, it wasn't a great bread. It was very pillowy on the top and the bottom disintegrated while eating. I would not suggest that roll. And I love bread, it was just too, bready. Determined and with a $5 return coupon I went back. The regular roll is much better and more of a standard crusty roll you woukd expect. I also had the regular fries and they were also great. We tried the single burgers and a cheesesteak with Cooper Sharp. Both I would get again. We also tried the fresh cut fries with coop seasoning and honey mustard. I felt they were a little greasy, the seasoning tasted mostly like salt and pepper and maybe that's all it was. Girls at work love this place so I took husband to try it out I got the chicken salad and the dressing was served warm. It was amazing. I love Caesar dressing and theirs is tops. Lots of chicken. I have to agree with some of the reviews. The burgers are definitely in the 80th percentile. Juicy and tender. I would opt of their coop sauce and go with straight up ketchup. The fries honestly were just okay. Any return trip is solely for the burgers. I also miss that they did not have fountain sodas. read more
