    Linen backed DeGrazia poster
    Kelli B.

Perfect for my de Grazia poster.. no restoration needed just linen backing. Got my hanger today and it looks just right.

After acquiring three vintage film posters recently, I went to the web in search of someone or someplace that could restore and preserve these pieces, by having them repaired and then linen backed. I have a small collection and have used this process before, but it had been a while, and I had in the meantime moved. I found Chris Cloutier and Posertfix on Shopify through this web search, and after watching the videos and seeing the before and after photographs of some of his work, I decided to reach out to him and inquire about having these newly acquired posters restored and preserved. I sent him photos of each of my posters and described them in an email. Chris acknowledged the email immediately, saying it would take him a couple of days to look them over and would get back to me when he'd done so. He came back with what seemed a very reasonable price for the three posters of which I had sent him images and descriptions. I decided to initially send him the one which needed the most work to see how it came out and for a more first-hand review of his work. As I shared with him after receiving the restored poster in return, his work is spectacular. It was as if it wasn't the same poster I sent to him. I've had other movie posters restored and preserved in the past, and until now I impressed with those results. What I had sent him was one of the more damaged and obviously aged posters among those that I owned. Comparatively, there was one poster in my collection which had been restored and preserved in this way, and was one which was similarly poorly cared for prior to my acquiring it though it was 5 years newer. I was always impress with how well this poster had be restored, but it is not at the level of professional artistry which is displayed in the which Chris and his crew at Posterfix sent back to me. The results on this poster are well beyond my expectations, and even though it took a little longer than he originally anticipated, as I explained in earlier communication with Chris, that was of absolutely no consequence. The work that Posterfix produces is top quality and their prices are very reasonable. Chris is easy to work with and responds to inquiries fully and quickly. I will be sending him the other two film posters I had him look at originally, and any others I obtain in the future. I wouldn't hesitate recommending him to anyone who is looking for the restoration and preservation of any kind of poster, he is an artist at what he does.

I don't have a before picture, but for real it was in awful shape.

My poster was in bad shape, had been through a lot. But Chris fixed it up wonderfully. The work is excellent, far better than I imagined I could reasonably expect. It did take a long time - quite a bit longer than he quoted, but in the end it was absolutely worth it. I recommend him, and would use him again.

I had a disheartening conversation with Chris over the last few months. I chalked most of our interaction up to the idea that he's "an expert with 40 years of experience" (as he'll readily tell you as if it excuses his attitude) and little time to explain the nuances of his process to each individual customer. That I could shrug off since his website's before and after pictures spoke for themselves, but there was other information on his website that didn't match our conversation and I started to get confused and asked for clarity. That was my first mistake. He became terse and rude, and when I called him out on his less-than-stellar customer service approach, I was sworn at and ridiculed. I invite you to read our emails below and judge for yourselves whether this is a person you want to work with.

Vintage poster from 1936, restored and linen-backed
    Max D.

I going to share my great experience with Posterfix so that anyone with a vintage poster will know what they can expect. I sent an 85-year-old film poster to be linen-backed, and I recently received the restored poster. In short, the work exceeded my expectations in every way. My poster had significant creases from being folded (as is quite common) -- but even more significantly, missing paper around the edges, with a missing corner which invaded part of the image. Chris and his team did a beautiful job of restoring the poster; not only linen-backing it, but also providing fills for the missing paper and even recreating the missing corner. People who have seen the poster since did not even realize that the restoration had taken place. It's going to look fantastic when it is framed and displayed. My poster is of modest value compared to some of the rare and historic posters Chris has handled, but the care and quality of I received was second to none. As someone who has had a great exprience with Posterfix, I would like to respond to some of the negativity in a few of the reviews. Posterfix is a family business that is known for poster restoration and preservation. For the price of linen-backing (if that is all you need) you are actually getting the services of an art restorer with many thousnds of hours of experience, who has restored tens-of-thousands of posters. Some projects will be ahead of you when he receives your poster. Restoration work takes patience and it may be difficult to predict exactly how long it will be before he can start your project. My suggestion is to be patient, because when he does start your project he will give it the personal attention he gave to all his other work. I have had no trouble communicating with Chris by phone and email, but keep in mind that he does not have a big staff. (That is actually a good thing, because it means that your project will be completed by the owner of the business!) Look at the Posterfix YouTube channel and you'll be able to see many examples of linen-backing and restoration -- before, during and after.

Not by their work, since I didn't actually have any work done, but with simple communication and professionalism. I stopped by in person in the summer of 2013 to ask if a small section of porcelain from a brass bed frame could be repaired. Anatoly said it would be difficult... especially since I did want to spend a lot.. but he said he would look into it and get back to me. I never heard from Anatoly once. I called him about 4 times over 7 months and he said there was no update. Whne I called to see if there was any update good or bad he said 'Try me again in a month or so'. That was it. Now some 7 months later without a single call to say 'Hey I can't help you' or a 'No luck but I'm still trying' I called him and got the usual 'I don't have anything for you' I told him how disappointed that I never recieved a single call or update even if it was to say he couldn't help. And I told him to keep the piece. I don't know if his lack of professionalism or common decency as a business owner was due to my project not being a lucrative piece for him. Or perhaps his workload being such that he didn't have a spare minute or two to update a customer... all I can say is, despite being my being very friendly and checking in with him, I felt ignored and unimportant.

Chris told me that this would take 2 weeks to complete. If by 2 weeks, he meant 10 weeks, then it was 2 weeks. No matter how many times I called, nobody EVER picks up the phone, so I had to keep going in to his shop (I live 25 minutes away). I asked to have pictures of the unfinished product sent to me before the work was completed to make sure I liked it, and everything was the way I wanted it (spacing, borders, colors, etc.) After 8 weeks, I finally got an email of the pictures, and it was wrong so the layout had to be changed. Finally, after 10 weeks, after the changes, I picked up the frame. Then, I gave him much more expensive cards ($2,000) to frame and told him that this can't take 10 weeks. He assured me that this time it would only take two weeks. I told him that this frame had to be the same size as the last one since I would be displaying them together. I called after 2 weeks to see if it was done, and as usual, nobody picked up the phone, so I left a message. I said the same thing as before. Make sure you send me pictures before you seal up the frame. Of course, nobody called me back, I called 4 more times that week, left 4 more messages...not ONE call back. Then, suddenly, I get an email that the frame is done. I went in and picked it up, brought it home and noticed that not only was this frame bigger than the first one, but the borders/frames around the cards were MUCH bigger than the first ones, so the white borders of the cards could not be seen. It made the cards look much smaller. They do not look like real baseball cards; they look like imitations and copies that I've seen online. The spacing of the cards in relation to the engraved plaque was off as well. I emailed Chris again (since there is no point in calling), and he told me that he was NOT going to redo the piece and it looked just fine to him. He didn't even want to hear what the issues were. It could have been a small fix. I would have even been willing to keep the larger frame but at least change the borders around the cards to they look real. Maybe it looked fine to him, but he is in the framing business, not the baseball card business. It was not what I wanted or asked for. You can see the difference in the 2 pieces. One has a slight orange frame around the card for a nice hint of color, while you can still see the white borders, and the other where the white borders are completely covered up and there is a dominating large gray frame around the card. The two look nothing alike. I was going to sue him but it wasn't worth the filing fees, or my time for $230, which I never even got a receipt for since I paid cash. So, if you want to wait 4 times longer than it should normally take for your merchandise to be completed, have your calls ignored, have zero communication with who is doing the work, and have them make their own decisions as to how YOUR items come out.... then this is your place.
