My guests are all starting to receive their wedding invites and I've had so many messages about the work that Leon did! I had a custom design made on etsy but then didn't know how to elevate the rest of the invite to make it a real wedding suite. After having a mini melt down, I'm so glad I came to my senses and went IN PERSON to Print Icon instead of just trying to figure things out online as we are conditioned to do these days. I walked into Print Icon and was instantly at ease as you could tell they have been in the business for years. I showed them all these ideas I had for inserts and they calmly said "sure we can do that, we can do anything" and they weren't kidding! I think for me the best part (other than the speedy return) was being able to literally sit down next to the designer and work through any and ALL small details, from wording, to paper, to colors and fonts. No emailing back and forth over the span of weeks just working with a real human and getting it done quickly! I was then prepared for it to take at least two weeks to make (because again we are conditioned by all these online wedding sites that there will always be a delay) so I was thrilled when Print Icon said "okay they'll be ready in a few days". This is a small reliable store that has been in the business for years and you can tell because they definitely have regular return customers that use them as their go to. Perfection! Everyone at Print Icon was wonderful and made my wedding invitations even more beautiful than I could have imagined. I knew what I wanted which made the process very easy. I first met with Ana to discuss what it was I wanted. She was so sweet and showed me past wedding invitations to look through. I then booked an appointment and met with Leon, their graphic design genius, who listened to what I wanted and took the time to make sure I was 100% happy with how the design turned out. I emailed him jpeg artwork I put together on Photoshop with watercolor images downloaded from Etsy. (Leon can do all of that for you, I just had fun doing it myself. I was feeling crafty.) Leon helped me decide where to add gold foil on the main invitation, the color of the text, style of text and adding a laser cut palm leaf that he created. We met 3 times to go over everything. It was fun for me to be involved in the process. Your involvement though is totally up to you. I worked with Vahid picking the color of paper stock for the laser cut palms, color, thickness and size of the invitations and the price. I cannot believe the deal for this suite! I was able to stay within my budget while keeping my long wishlist of add-ons. If you know what you want or have an idea of what you want, schedule an appointment with Leon. He will help create what's in your head... or on your Pinterest or IG :) Vahid sent over my finished invitations to my building even after I said I could pick them up. Actually, considering the quality and attitude, they're wonderful. You may have to wait when you call or visit because they're juggling a couple of other customers, but your patience will reward you. Watch Vahid evolve bad suggestions into quality executions. When a print came out bad, he apologized and reprinted before the client could speak. This is a HUGE store with a great variety of paper goods. The final produced product is usually great so my stars go mainly to that. For some reason their front line customer service staff is a huge hit or miss...they are really nice and scatterbrained or really rude and short... My company gets their business cards printed here but EVERY single time I get a call saying they are ready for pick up I show up and it's either, oops not printed or oops not cut yet. COMMUINICATE PEOPLE!!!! Don't call the customer if you've half assed the job. And what sucks is that you have to be on top of them to meet deadlines for when you need items or else you SOFL! I would think for the amount of money spent for their services the least they can do it prioritize and get things completed in the time frame they say they can and will. read more

Print Icon has a limited number of stationary things, scrapbook things, and invitation things. Recently, they've had a sale for 50% off most everything in the store. This excludes Valentines cards and printing services. Regardless of these restrictions, you can definitely score a good deal on do it yourself invitations!!! They have a table of nice stationary/invitiation paper in the back of the store for 5$ a package. A package could include 10 - 25 sheets of paper or envelopes. Basically whatever they have that day. You kinda take your chances. The pricing for designing your printing needs such as wedding invitations is $130 an hour for the designer to sit with you and make the layout for your invitiation. There is also a $65 dollar minimum for printing invitations. If you have the skills to design your own layout, you can design your own layout and they will print. They can do the fancy print like...when the letters stick out a bit out of the paper, or when the letters sink into the paper, or just smooth...whatever you want. I would come back here, but just expect that if you're coming to buy paper, they are limited on those things. read more

We utilized Print Icon for a fairly unique project (a baseball-themed wedding guestbook poster), and dealing with their team was frustrating and stressful from start to finish. We found their customer service brusque, their communication unclear and frustrating and their graphic design uncreative. I found the place by chance and stopped in to try and gauge whether or not this would be the type of project they could handle. I'll admit we were a bit uncertain as to exactly what we wanted - exactly why we wanted to engage with a design and print shop - but the woman at the front desk, Ana, basically brushed me off, didn't address my pricing/timing questions and told me I needed to make an online appointment with a graphic designer to discuss, at a $65 per half hour minimum charge. My wife scheduled such appointment online, but when we arrived, no one seemed to be expecting us. We were set up with someone relatively quickly who was pleasant, but ultimately not terribly helpful. As we are not graphic designers ourselves, we expected a brief meeting whereby we would communicate the gist of what we wanted, and that the half hour would primarily be spent with the designer, you know... designing it. Instead, the half hour was spent showing the designer pictures, telling him what to do and watching him waste a good part of the appointment trying to recreate a font from the picture that we said was unimportant. Unsurprisingly, we weren't really happy with the results of our $65 30 minute brainstorming session that we could have done together at home for free, and decided that we wanted a few changes to it. We emailed in explaining the few changes we wanted, and provided three images that were pretty much copied as is into the poster. They implemented our changes and charged us another $65 for an additional half hour of design time. So we basically feel like we spent $130 on the design portion of the project that we may as well have just put towards our own copy of InDesign, as we did the bulk of the design work anyway. Arranging pickup of the poster was also a (needless) hassle. We approved a print on Wednesday and asked if there was any chance we could pick the poster up on Thursday, as it would be incredibly helpful in a busy, stressful week, but said we could do Friday/Saturday if necessary. Ana was incredibly brusque and non-committal about the pick-up time when we spoke Thursday morning - she sounded angry and said Thursday was impossible, and that she "couldn't guarantee" the following days, which left us quite nervous that we wouldn't get the item in time. Then out of the blue they left a message Thursday night that the poster was ready for pick up before they closed that night if I wanted - if I had any inclination that was an option, I would have arranged to wait around in the city to get it before heading home, which, as I had expressed on the phone that morning, would have been far preferable to heading back in Friday. The actual printing and mounting of the poster turned out nice once we finalized the design, and they were in point of fact able to turn it around for us quickly. Unfortunately, any benefits of the quick turnaround were ruined by the horrid communication which led me to believe the turnaround time would be lengthier. So if you already have your design idea and just want something printed in a reasonable amount of time, I suppose you could do worse. But I would not recommend them for designing something unique. Nor if you tend to stress about ambiguous, moving deadlines or bristle at clipped, unconcerned service. read more

HARRASSMENT FROM THE OWNER: I was contacted by the owner of Print Icon via email telling me that he was disappointed with my review and suggesting that because I am a musician.... "a little humility will go a long way." I'm not sure what that means. He continued in the email to say that the issues encountered on my project were a result of my mistake. Which is not what happened. When I did not answer that email, he followed up the next day with an offer for a $150 credit to take down my review. That was not a consideration for me - frankly because I would never want to work with these people again. But I did consider taking down my review simply because I take no glee in hurting a local business and it didn't feel worthwhile to get someone so upset. But this site is about writing honest reviews of your experience. Which I did. So, again, I did not reply. Today, this guy took the liberty of trying to publicly shame me by posting a rant on my PERSONAL FACEBOOK PAGE. So he thinks harassment is the way to get me to take down my review? My review is not the problem with this business. Their way of dealing with, being honest with and respecting their clients is. BEWARE. read more

SUMMARY: * Poor communication. * Missed deadlines. * Poor foresight/management of stock quantities before and at print time. * Great printing quality. I was hired to design custom wedding invitations that were to be printed here at Print Icon per the request of the couple. I found the quality and paper selection of samples I had viewed to be good so I was fairly confident things would be fine. Let me get right into it and say that yes, the quality is there, but the communication, and ability to meet dates is totally terrible. And I will stress poor communication, again. While I was at the place, my final artwork was submitted and proofs were to be ready "in a day or two." Three days later, no call. Eight days had passed so I just went in and I learned that the proofs were done the day before, just sitting there. The production person that handles proofing was out sick that day but we still have proofs made a week late, and NO communication. I requested new proofs to be made that would also display the template as we're doing a die-cut with scoring so I wanted to see everything in the right context (don't you think someone in production would have thought of that?) and final approval would be given the next day if everything was good. The next day, everything was good and we were told that a press check would be happening "in a day or two." A week later, NO communication, NO press check, NO prints, NO communication! It was also made very clear last time that we're over a week behind schedule due to the original proofs being done late and then sitting there in the store, dormant and unloved. Now onto the best (worst) part: I then learned that they called the bride to declare that they suddenly didn't have enough of one of the stocks we had chosen to print on. This was to be the stock of the outer package that houses everything and it was very important regarding color, texture, and tactile feel. So let me get this straight... the DAY AFTER the project is due, they tell us they don't have enough paper. Unbelievable!!! There was literally no more time left to wait for anything else so she had to choose the next closest stock which in my opinion changed everything and was not the right stock for the project at all. This is a terrible way to produce something. I really cannot believe that a printer can not know that they don't have the materials to do your job until the day after it's due. In the end, the quality is great. But, jesus christ please communicate what the hell is happening and be on time. read more

This place has HORRIBLE customer service. I regrettably had my custom invitations done here. We initially wanted letterpress invites, but because we wanted to reduce cost, we opted for regular indigo printing. We decided to work with one of their design guys (charging $120 for an hour of work). We only enlisted their help to clean up the image and change the color saturation for the work which basically takes 30 minutes AT BEST. I would have done the photoshop myself by it is better to work on the computer you will be printing from because the colors could be different. Let me start by saying that the designer must HATE his job. He forgot our appointments and had no work to show when I arrived for our meetings. He would ask why I hadn't called when we had agreed just the day before that I would be coming in the next day. I had to literally sit down and watch him do his work. He would completely disregard explicit examples sent to him and would have to be told repeatedly what I was looking for. Instead of individually changing specific aspects, he would try to take short cuts making the project take longer than it should because he would have to do it the correct way all over again because he didn't want to do it right initially. If you want anything done, you must be prepared to micromanage down to the very last detail. Please be prepared to go in on countless occasions as they will not be ready with any of your work. They will never call you to tell you your work is ready. If you have a deadline, it is best you forget it as they will too. I am not sure that they are aware that they are a service business. read more

I designed my own wedding invitations in Illustrator and went to Print Icon for the printing on their state-of-the-art "Indigo" printer which is an amazing machine. I looked at other options from Village Copier to Paper Access (which is now called Paper Printing and Production) to Kinkos, but nothing met all my requirements for quality and turn around time that Print Icon could. The folks at Print Icon were great. Sharp, on the ball, friendly, and calm. They caught a couple important issues that would have been disasters (my post card was not the required size for the post office to deliver). I spent one hour working shoulder to shoulder with their graphic designer ($60) who was worth every penny. We had to go in a re-size the whole 2 page invite to match the post card and import my fonts. They also re-sized and printed a map for the invitation. I requested some special textured paper stock that was like water color paper (pastel) which came out beautifully. Their proofs were ready with in minutes while I waited. The invitations cost what they had estimated, and they even did the folding and hole punching I needed. Over all, it was an excellent experience. I also appreciated that they had a wide selection of other items I needed such as ribbon and envelopes to match my invites. I highly recommend going to them in person with your project and talking through the options. read more

Classic NYC nightmare. Some overgrown mom and pop holds you over a barrel because they know they are the only game like theirs left in town. Here's a bullet point explanation of my experience. - My client insists we use this service bureau to produce contact cards for an upcoming networking event. She's sure they can get em to us in time (It is the Wednesday evening before the Wednesday evening event.) - I initiate my experience with a call to a friendly young girl who has no idea what the recommended "press bleed" is. She tells me to submit my artwork as is, and one of their "designers" will call me back if anything gets cut off and charge me $65/hr to fix. YEAH RIGHT. - Crappy Joomla-based website that's hosted on an overrun server and therefore slow as moss when uploading your files. - Misleading information on the website up to and including advertised promotional prices, turnaround times, product finishing options, paper stock, proof policy/pricing, etc. Apparently if I ordered through the website I wouldn't have to shell out an extra $25 for a proof from an INDIGO PRESS (are you kidding me). (Thursday) - No response on the emails or telephone calls asking for an estimate until I called repeatedly. (Friday) - Estimate still not reflecting my specs that I sent in the email, gotta repeat my hounding of these fools. (Friday) - I approve the estimate and then I have to pay 50% upfront (on a $150 job, classy), but I am promised a 3 day turnaround time. Well maybe not promised, more like I was condescended to over the phone by the owner who thought I was making a big deal over nothing. (Friday) - No call or proof. My client and I call three times before someone calls us back to let us know the proof is finished. Apparently the "proof guy" doesn't get in until noon on Mondays and even though they are open all weekend they don't print over the weekend. (Monday) - We get a call back that the proof is ready late afternoon and we go to approve it and finally get to meet the gang at Print Icon. Vahid the crotchedy owner/price estimator(/"proof guy"?) is the patriarch of the Print Icon family, which appears to be, literally, his family. We ask him if the 100 ct piece (for $150 ugh) will still be done by Tuesday and he laughs and says "That's the general idea" (Monday) - Nothing on Tuesday and they refuse to give us a turnaround time. My client goes in around 1:30 to raise hell, is turned away. As soon as she gets out of the train they call her to let her know the project is finished. (Tuesday) - Smoke pours from both of my client's ears (Tuesday) Maddening. Granted this place does nice work and they have the lovely selection of papers and finishing and whatnot that all the brides are looking for. But I cannot believe for a second, as the hold music advertisement would have me believe, that graphic design and advertising agencies make this their printer of choice in lower Manhattan. read more

I love this store almost for the sole reason that you can see the printing presses running in the back of the store. You just don't see that ever. I much prefer Print Icon to Paper Presentation a few doors down. Smaller space focused on paper and printing. They even do letterpress. Is it getting hot in here or is it me? My most recent visit here today was surprisingly not for stationery but for adhesive wallpaper. My roomie and I are going for a vintage chic look for our living room - we already have a sexy red velvet antique couch and we've been brainstorming what to do for the wall behind it. We've discussed bold purple paint and toile wallpaper. Now we're on wall decals and adhesive wallpaper. My friend told me Print Icon had it so I stopped in. They stock Lolliprop's Tempaper in a variety of lust-worthy prints (http://tempaperdesigns.com/products.nxg). NB: The damsel print is hot. $75 to cover 56 square feet and it's commitment-free because it peels right off whenever you're over it. This sounds so much easier and less frustrating than painting or putting up traditional wallpaper. read more

I walked in here to try and get a quote for multiple items for my upcoming wedding (ie. table numbers, place cards, programs, menus) I didn't get passed saying I wanted 50 table numbers and the guy asked me to email a list. I said I'm here now And would like to go ahead and go over a list now. His response is that in the printing business they give quotes on size, paper that sort of thing. I said I know that's why I'm here to pick that kind of stuff out. I took the time to go in there to pick everything out and go over it all because if the price is right I wanted to place the order right away. Not waste time going back and forth via email only to find out I choose the wrong 'paper' online. Rude customer service. I went here to get some pricing on custom holiday cards from my company. The guy was so snobby and started talking metaphorically about how I should start with the size of the envelope-because "the envelope is the saddle and the card is the horse." WTH?! I wish I took a picture of the quote I got for 250 normal-sized holiday cards and plain envelopes-somehwere around the $800 range! (Including a $25 proof charge). Probably my worst experience as a customer: We went to Print Icon for our wedding invitations. We asked for an estimation; their number was based on the number of invitations + 1 hour for a designer. We decided to go ahead and met with the designer. We explained what we wanted and explicitly asked for a proof in 2 weeks, so we could show something to our parents as we visited them abroad. We never heard from the designer, even after 3 voice messages. When we got back, she finally sent us the proof. There were a couple of adjustments that we needed to do, so we send our comments. We got a new proof after a week - the new proof did not follow our instructions and was worse than the first proof we got (many typos!). We resent an email and the designer replied that she already spent 6 hours on the design and they now require a deposit to continue on the job. The deposit was more or less the amount of the estimation. Our bill doubled after 2 emails with the designer. We met with the manager who did the estimate and we had to argue for a long time before they agreed to bill 3 hours of design - by the way, you might ask why we didn't walk away since we haven't paid anything yet - well it took already a lot of time and we had the feeling it was almost done. We paid and after 2 weeks we got the invitations. While at the store, I checked the invitations and believe or not but the envelops were not correctly printed. On the back, the bottom of our address looked off. I asked about it and they told me that it is normal b/c that's where the glue thing is, so different pressure, so different look ... What the hell? It was designed by their designer!!!! Please avoid this business at any cost! read more

My initial portfolio print was a rush job, and they stayed as late as they needed to in order to finish it. There ended up being a problem with one of my original prints due to the rushed nature of the project. However Vahid was extremely accommodating and re-printed the portfolio for me. It's a short one as I was outta there within 10 minutes after having an introductory conversation with Vahid, the president, about the design of my wedding invitations which included scores and folds. Not only did he come across as arrogant but his vision and creative capabilities are clearly limited; He straight up rejected printing my invitations!! Luckily we live in New York and there are a million alternatives. I ended up working with Judy at The Paper Boutique nearby. They did a beautiful job and guess what, I didn't need to change my design as Vahid had suggested. Big shop, small horizons. I need an experience printer with high quality printing and binding experience. My portfolio is 8.5 x 11, full bleed, colored, double sided, coiled bind with custom covers. For 76 pages / 38 sheets double sided, printing on 100# cougar white, by the indigo printing press quoted at $160 with binding per book. It is very expensive, since online printers like lulu.com or shutterfly.com charged around $50 or so. But with client interviews coming up, I have no time to take chances. So stop by the store, the president Vahid just happens to be working the counter that day. I told him what I want, gave him a copy of my old portfolio. He quoted me a price; and I put half the money down. I upload my files online to him that night. I called the next day to make sure the files are ok with them, and I specify ask to see the prints before they bind the book. The next day after I called, I returned to the store and the print is ready. I chat with Andrew who binds my book. I told him what I needed, and he gave me some options on the coil bind, and re-trims my book to fit my custom cover. He did a great job, very professional. In the end, 2 separate trips to the store and $160 later, I am a happy customer. The cost is very high, but it's worth every penny. My team and I spend some much time working on these projects, and the least I can do is print them correctly in order to fully represent the quality the work itself. I have 3 client interviews next week. I am going to walk into their office with full confident that our work is best represent here. This is not a Kinko's or a copy stop, these guys are pros. A smaller version of A.I. Friedman or Paper Presentation on the same street. A lot more rolls of paper, less arts and crafts. Holiday cards were sub par. A little plain, but looked more homemade than competing stores. read more
