I am ashamed to say I'm a Matthews native and still live here and I literally had NO clue this was a restaurant lol. But in any case now that I know, best believe me I will be back. The outside is the small town charm of Matthews, but the inside is modern big city vibes. It is absolutely beautiful in there. Service was great and food and drinks amazing. I went on a Tuesday with a huge group of Facebook Group friends and we had a ball. We got the whole dining area reserved for us and in spite of a large crowd, the two waitresses were awesome. On Tuesdays cocktails are half off so I got the margarita and it was delish. For food I got the truffle fries and short rib sliders. Both were phenomenal! I couldn't even eat it all lol because even though small plates, I felt they both were filling. This place is great for a date night, hanging with the girls or even going solo to hang out at the bar. I can't wait to get back! Only thing that could make this place better is some live acoustic music sometimes, it would set the ambience off even more. Spoke with the owner and he said they do cocktail classes as well, they don't have them listed on the website but working on it, but said can email them for the info. I certainly will! lol

Service drinks food all a 10! Small but mighty place. Parking on the street and a great selection of spirits. Kitchen staff and servers were awesome. Blake is the man behind the bar! Come check this place out!

Y'all, after the Chicken & Waffle incident, I just gave up on going back to PG, but girlfriend asked me out and she picked the location. She is very fond of this place, but it just never stuck with me. I hadn't seen her in a while and just wanted the company. Had already convinced myself I would just nurse one drink all night. Get there, and she's already eating and 1 Martini in. I decided on the Gin Martini, thinking "you can't go wrong." The bartender Blake, is very pleasant and attentive. He even offers up a little chatting when he serves my drink. I immediately start to warm up and release chilled feelings I had from my last visit here, where the staff seemed highly annoyed that I would interrupt their conversations to ask for the simple things in life, like a fork to eat my meal with or black pepper to season. I decide to get a bite. Nothing too complicated, just the beet salad with goat cheese crumble. It is very tasty, but I do realize right away this is not goat cheese, it's feta. I asked Blake if it was substituted because they were out of goat cheese. He checks in back and learns the Chef grabbed the wrong cheese when preparing and offered to take it back. I never send food back for correction and decided it was not too bad with the feta. Just wanted to make Blake aware that if you're substituting an item, please make your patron aware before serving. This could have gone way south if it were someone else. Overall, this was a nice evening with a friend. he drink was soothing, the salad was tasty, Blake was a complete breath of fresh air in staffing changes. Thank you, PG

Welcome Back! I decided to take myself to brunch so I chose one of my favorite spots @portraitgalleryrestaurant in Matthews. I haven't been here in a few years but the experience remains the same. It gives the perfect ambiance like Miami but it's a hidden gem in Matthews. The food was delicious and the Mimosa flights are always sufficient. I missed my favorite waitress Caress but Mikayla did an awesome job. I ordered the avocado, toast, and beignets. Definitely not bad for a weekend wind down! #CharlotteBrunch #brunch #sundayfunday #matthewsnc #solo #single #blackgirlmagic #avacadotoast #eggs #daydrinking

And as crowded as it was on our recent visit, The One may eventually have to seek out trendier, more spacious digs somewhere else in the Queen City. Until then, be prepared for a noisy ambiance, peak hour waits and tables that are a bit close for comfort. But the food and cocktails make it all worth it. The extensive menu of shareable plates offers something for every palate, from the tasty Fettucini with Roasted Duck Ragu and flavorful Braised Short Ribs to the amazing Oxtail Empanadas. Paired with a perfectly mixed Old Fashioned or a bottle of wine from their impressive selection, it adds up to a compelling culinary experience for anything from date night to an evening with friends. Service was excellent on our visit and prices were very reasonable for a meal of this caliber. Parking is free and super-easy, but reservations are highly recommended -- especially for weekend visits. My only gripe was the tightness of the space, which makes intimate conversation a bit challenging and the tables a bit crowded -- especially when you order a variety of plates. But if you can manage to visit on a quiet weeknight, The One will deliver a wonderful tapas meal that will have you planning a return visit before you pick up the check.

It was pretty full but we did find a spot. - the vibes were fun- definitely a bar feel!! Lots of TV's with sports on, decorated cute for Christmas, dimly lit like a bar- fun vibe! - we easily got a table at 6:00 and there was also bar seating - they had an extensive beer menu and some cocktails. They have a full bar. - the truffle fries and aioli was really good! - they left a carafe of water on our table so we could refill water glasses and didn't need to wait on them to fill up our water. Although the water cups were plastic/ disposable cups. What we didn't like: - they only had 4 wine options. I guess it's a beer scene but I wish there were more wine options! Although the one I got was good. - the food wasn't great. My husband got a burger and ordered it medium rare. He said half of it was medium rare but the other half was rare and not even cooked which he didn't learn until it was half eaten. He did not even eat it and needed to get a second meal after we left. I got the salad and it wasn't great. It tasted very watery, also not flavorful. The dressing was too thick- almost like a dip, so it wasn't great for a salad. - the burgers don't come with a side and it was pretty pricy for just the burger. - we got a beer, glass of wine, a burger, a salad and a side of fries and it was over $50 before tip which seemed pricy - the service was not great. She was great at the beginning, then we didn't see her for a while. We were ready to go and she was no where to be seen.

The pizza here is very, very delicious. One of the few…read moreplaces here where I can still get a nice thin crust pizza done right. The pizza and local convenience is the only reason we came here a few times. For the quality of the pizza, I still consider it a great value compared to other "social media trendy" but highly overpriced, overrated places. The environment can be nice, especially with the "night light" lamps they put on the table, music is not overwhelmingly loud or obnoxious. The white tablecloth is a nice touch. The chairs are decent. However, the wait can be very long, even if not busy. We've been here at least 4 times on various days and times (weekdays, late afternoons, early evenings, weekends, etc.) and we typically wait about 40+ minutes or so for the food to be ready. Even when there's only 2-3 other customers around, it takes about 25-30 minutes after ordering for the food to receive it. The last time we were here, it took more than 1 hour for the food to be ready. The service staff is extremely nice. However, there's still something "off" about this place and them. For example, the bar worker is expected to not only pour drinks at the bar, but also attend to non-bar restaurant guests. This is kind of weird. This place seems to give more attention and priority to bar customers and alcohol drinking "buddies" of the bar staff. The staff loves to sit and chat with their "friends" (regulars) while minimally and superficially attending to normal customers with a less sense of priority and urgency. I don't expect them to rush every single thing, but it was extremely obvious that the focus was to prioritize bar patrons over non-alcohol restaurant customers. Perhaps this is for profit reasons and if so, they should just be honest about it and separate bar staff from food waiters, like normal places do, or just simply be a bar place and not a pizza place. Also, the pizza making area is open and you can hear the workers every argument and discussion when it comes to wages, scheduling, next shift coverage, etc.. This is weird. At the price point of this pizza, I didn't think staff was being treated and paid so poorly. The vibe of the workers was just so "off", in general. The waitresses and waiters are very nice but often aloof and behave oddly. Like, is there something sketchy going on at this place? Are they on substances? Everyone is friendly but has no attention to detail, urgency or anything else. The last time we were here, it was very busy. But it took at least 1 hour to make 2 or 3 pizzas. The manager could tell we weren't happy. However, we didn't even know he was the manager as he didn't introduce himself properly but offered to comp our meal. This place gets 2 stars because of him and the delicious pizza . But if I ever come back, it'll just be order out by myself. The other person I came with absolutely hated the service and wait of this place and doesn't want to come back again.
