First trip to Portillo's in Mansfield. I don't have much to add regarding the food. The dogs are awesome and exactly the same as the many I have had the pleasure of eating in Chi-town. The Italian beef was spot on! I am writing this review in response to the over the top exceptional customer service provided by Erik, Que, and Ari. They were rock stars today. The PA system in the restaurant must be having issues because we never heard our number called and I saw someone pick up their food from the counter that had come after us. So I took my receipt to the counter and showed it to Erik. Erik said my number had been called. Turns out the group that came in after us decided to help themselves to our order. This is certainly not Erik's fault. I said hey no big deal. Erik, Que and Ari all apologized and they immediately made us a new order. Way to go guys. The food is great but I will be going back because of you understanding and professionalism in handling a mistake that was out of your control. Kudos! read more

What can I say about Portillo's that you do not know. Very good Italian Beef sandwich. I'm not an expert but the sandwich is tasty. I add the hot peppers but I get the au ju sauce on the side. Otherwise the bread is to soggy for me. Others may like that that is up to you. Get fries or onion rings. I got back and forth. The chocolate cake is very good for sharing. The hot dogs are good nothing special. And they have burgers. I'm there for the Italian Beef. The service is fine order at the counter then sit down they will call your number. Ahh, the American food scene. A glorious place where moderation goes to die. Portillo's proudly serves Italian beef sandwiches, cheeseburgers, chicken burgers, and the utterly unhinged two hot dog combo. It's the sort of menu I once tried pitching to my mates back in the UK. Their response? "Who's gonna eat all that?" Me. Apparently. I rolled into the drive-thru, completed what can only be described as a textbook pickup, and returned to my hotel room like a man on a mission. The first casualty was the Italian beef, dressed with spicy peppers because life is simply too short to order it any other way. What happened next is probably best kept between me, the sandwich, and whatever poor soul has to wash the bedsheets. The fries disappeared without a trace. The Coke Zero fought the good fight but ultimately shared the same fate. For a place I'd never even heard of before today, Portillo's has made one hell of a first impression. 5/5. To be honest, I was skeptical about visiting. I feel their prices are a bit high, but they are right off the highway, and I needed to pick up a quick lunch before heading to training in Fort Worth. I wanted to try their hot dog, but their combo came with two, and when I asked if they had a single combo, the cashier said that's not a menu item. You can choose a hot dog and fries, but that would be more than the double combo. I never had a hot dog as a leftover, but I did have the second one for dinner, and it was still good. The fries were hot and crispy. The hot dog, I really enjoyed. I never had those toppings on a hot dog before, but it all seemed to work together. I wish they had an All-American dog; that'll be the only reason I wouldn't get a hot dog from them again. Will I visit them again, possibly. I hadn't eaten all day and had to take my son to basketball practice, so I realized this place was nearby and quickly went through the drive-thru to grab a burger. It was surprising quick and the staff was nice. I ordered the cheeseburger combo with a Coke...It was absolutely delicious. And I'm not just saying that because I was starving and overheated at the moment. It genuinely tasted just like I remembered: charbroiled flavor, fresh toppings, and crispy fries. I actually devoured it. I have a friend visiting from Virginia who tried a different location and claimed he didn't like the burger. He even said Burger King had more charbroiled flavor, which I know is completely false because Burger King half the time barely even tastes good. At this point, I'm convinced he has no taste buds, and if he recommends food to me again, I probably shouldn't trust it. This meal, though, was great. Everything tasted fresh, the burger had that good grilled flavor, and I loved the red onion, mayo, and ketchup combination. The fries were perfectly salted and crispy, exactly how fries should be. I also grabbed a piece of the chocolate cake, and it was just as good as I remembered too. This location definitely gets a checkmark from me for being consistent and just as good as previous visits. I was happy to see a Portillo's not too far from where I live. I was anxious to try it since I haven't been to one since many years ago in Chicago. The girl who took our order was super nice. It was a huge building for a hot dog spot. I ordered the number 2 which was 2 hot dogs with fries and a drink. The hot dog wasn't quite as good as I remembered. Bun was a bit soggy and So many poppy seeds on the bun; it was overwhelming. (Photo doesn't show all of the poppy seeds. I came through on a weekday during the lunch rush and placed an order for a hot beef Sandwich and in no time, it was ready and laying beneath my eyes. The sandwich contained thinly sliced juicy meat in a hoagie roll that was dipped in hot beef gravy. The key to this sandwich is to eat it as fast as you can when ordering because if not the bread will get soggy due to the gravy. The beef was flavorful and tender while the bread was semi soggy but yet as soft as a pillow when my teeth sank through. The flavor profile had a nice herbal essence or oregano and basil but yet beefy. You have the option to add peppers, cheese and other toppings to the sandwich but i just kept it plain to get the true beauty of the dish. Altogether this fine establishment is beautiful inside and out with many decorations throughout the place where you can easily sit and admire all off the artwork inside. The service was quick, fast and friendly while the food was impeccable and tasty. Several years ago, now, I have been to Portillo's in Chicago. I was excited to see this location up in Mansfield. One evening I went in for a quick dinner. This location is huge! There is plenty of seating for everyone. There is indoor and outdoor seating. I would call it diner themed, but with very tall ceilings so you don't feel crowded. I ordered my usual hotdog favorite, with chili & cheese, along with a side of fries. Drinks are available at a fountain in the middle of the restaurant. You get a number and then wait to be called to pick up your order from the kitchen. It was ok, kind of middle of the road. I think I need to come back and try other items on the menu. This little slice of Chicago is an excellent option if you're in the mood for Italian beef, polish dogs, Chicago dogs, etc. Originating in Chicago, this franchise has slowly made its way to Texas, and it's well worth the wait This location (like all the others) has an inviting interior that has all sort of car, oil, and other motor memorabilia. I've been to the original location in Chicago, and this one pays a lot of homage to that location, but in a newer and more modern way The staff was very friendly. The service was solid. We had a large group, and we waited 5-10min for all out food The food was tasty. Keep in mind, this is still fast food, but slightly elevated hot dogs and sandwiches. The fries are crinkle cut. And when wrapped up, the entrees look a bit messy, but don't let that turn you off Some tips: There is a rewards program where on your birthday you can get a slice of their delectable chocolate cake. All my friends have been raving about Portillo's. My wife and I were in Mansfield after an early evening appointment, so we decided to stop in and give it a whirl. The dining room is massive and due to the construction, very loud and noisy. You run through a line and order your food, issued a number and then pick up your food when it's ready. My wife is not a big Italian beef sandwich lover, so she decided to order a salad. I was also intrigued by the burgers on the menu, they looked really good. The restaurant was medium busy and order numbers were being called out in a brisk manner. We grabbed our drinks and sat people watching while waiting for our food. I wanted to see what everything looked like. Order number all over the place were called around our number but not our number. We were both wondering if they had somehow lost or missed our order. Finally, our order number was called. We picked up our food and headed back to our table. It seemed to have taken a lot longer than expected for us to receive our food. According to the menu description, my wife's salad, the Pecan Chicken, was missing ingredients. We were going to run it back up there, but it had already taken too long as it was. My Italian beef sandwich was underwhelming, no flavor at all, it was just bland and there were very few sweet peppers on the meat. I tried to figure out what the big deal was with their sandwiches and couldn't figure what the draw was. The fries were good. A great quick place to go grab lunch!! We both got the Italian beef sandwich, he got his with extra "gravy" which is more of an au jus, I got mine with hot peppers. Meat is always tasty, fresh, and consistent. The fries are always hot, crispy, and fresh. Very clean restaurant, and clean restrooms. Friendly, energetic service, when they called our number, it's was like we were getting called into a game show!! Finally had a chance to stop in for dinner. Upon walking in on an early Friday evening it was not crowded at all. Maybe all the hype of this place being new had already simmered down. Who knows. There was plenty of seating, the a/c was blowing strong, and the place was very clean. There is even a ton of outside shaded patio seating. Once inside you have the option to order from the kiosk or at the counter which is a huge help for when there's a crowd. We decided to share an Italian beef sandwich. I also learned you can decide the level of gravy "wetness". Lol. We stuck to standard gravy and added sweet and hot peppers. For sides I had a small order of onion rings and a nice cold Coca cola. The sandwich was just ok, not bad but also not anything to write home about. If anything, I really enjoyed the options of menu items they have so I'm willing to go back and try something new. In my opinion the employees are friendly, however almost every time I go to the location, I have to go back to the pickup counter to ask for items that the employees forgot, or to have them fix something they didn't get right. Also, I went at night and some of the dining room was roped off, and they served everyone's food in paper bags with no tray, even if you ordered for dine-in. It appears like they do this to not have to wash the dishes. For the price that you pay at Portillo's, that isn't really acceptable, as this is supposed to be considered "fast casual" which means they are supposed to be a "high quality self service" restaurant. I contacted corporate about my experience, and they replied back with a very weak canned response that read like it's the same response they send to everyone. The reply was very generic and made no mention of any of the details I sent to them. It was just a "we're sorry we didn't meet your expectations" and basically please give us another try. I would say for this location, pretty good food with lazy mediocre service at a relatively high price. For the price I paid for my bacon cheeseburger combo, I could have went to an actual sit down like Longhorn, Texas Roadhouse, Chili's, Applebees, etc. There is a 54th Street right across from Portillo's, next time I would probably choose them. Went through their drive-thru last night as a first time visitor. Ordered a bacon cheeseburger meal with crinkle fries and a drink which was less than $15. The young Drive-thru and pick up staff was very friendly and helpful! Fries were a little on the salty side but edible. Burger was delicious and I could taste that it was charbroiled. Yum! We honestly did not know where to look. Asked at cash register about any gluten free items without success, so she ordered a hamburger without bun and I picked a beef sandwich picture. She asked if I wanted peppers and I said yes, thinking dressed like the picture. They were $.75 extra which did not sit well. After a 15 minute wait in the nearly empty barn like dining room, our order came and my wife's order was wrong. We immediately sent it back. After another15 minutes the replacement was received, but everything else was cold. My beef sandwich looked good but it was "greasy" and difficult to eat. Flavor good. Maybe better if warm. I ordered beef and cheddar on a croissant and my husband ordered an Italian beef. Both of the buns were SOGGY! Are ordered at the counter and ate in the restaurant. It was disgusting. Garden dog was good! I went all out and got all the veggies in my dog only because I've never had it like that before.
