I have gone twice and keep hoping that it gets better. Being a Chicagoland kid, Portillo's is near and dear to my heart. The Houston menu is very limited and they continue to acknowledge this fact. The ambiance is very watered down from the Chicago experience. The service is good and there is good Texas friendly service - so that was a thumbs up. I finally visited here after letting them work out any kinks for several months. This restaurant was of course built on the old Comerica bank site that I used to frequent quite often. Although I had not visited any of their Chicagoland locations, I don't like hot dogs and just not a fan of many Chicago area foods in general. I quickly found the kiosks to order right when you enter the building and navigated them with ease because I had looked at the menu several weeks prior to visiting. Alternatively, you can still order at the counter. I picked the grilled chicken sandwich and added onions and pickles. Other toppings can be added for additional charge. I then added an unsweetened tea and a strawberry shake. My default is a chocolate shake, but since they slice strawberries fresh here, so the menu says, I tried the strawberry one. The grand total was $15.01. They nicely let me pick up my drink cup upon walking past the counter. This is nice because some restaurants and cashiers will make you wait to get a drink cup until your order comes out from the kitchen. Grilled chicken sandwich - it is OK but a little dry. The best part may have been the pickles. The bun was brioche and good Strawberry shake - the plus is that it does seem to contain fresh sliced strawberries. The strawberries may have been previously frozen though and they tend to get stuck in the straw due to their size. Overall, it's not too bad for fast food. New large open restaurants are always nice when new. I can't say I will be a regular customer, but it is another option in the area. read more

I cannot say just how often I have returned to this place since my first visit. The chocolate cake keeps me coming back. It is so very moist and delicious. The beef sandwich is so so delicious. My husband loves the peppers, but I tend to skip those. The sausage dog is fabulous. I hate a hot dog, but this is amazing. The service here is excellent and the place is spotless. Humble Texas we have Portillo's! Enjoyed it when visiting Chicago, I've tried their spot in Katy and glad there's finally one in my neck of the woods Humble/Kingwood. Recently opened (about a month) and had craving for a hot dog. Their staple is the Chicago style Dog, while it is good, I am from Texas and wanted a chili dog. Ordering is easy at the kiosk, just be mindful of the customization to avoid the error I made and somehow omitted chilli instead of cheese. Line manager was attentive that he caught the mistake and called me to confirm if that was correct, "no chili?!" I was grateful he caught that. The chili does have beans but the dog is simple with its poppy seed buns. While it's a standard size, it gets the job done. I love crinkle fries, but these were lukewarm & semi crispy. I stoped in around 9:30 on a Saturday, the place was moderately busy. But the ambiance is lively and nostalgic with its auto shop and love the oldies and classic 1950's & 60's music they have playing. Feel like I'm in a diner. The reason for the one star removal was: A couple do the tables were dirty with crumbs and food on the floor, I jumped around 3 tables before finding a decent one. And also the fries were awfully lukewarm & not as crispy as I'm used to for crinkle fries. We went to Portillo's today because my fiancée was craving a hotdog. It is very convenient that you can order on the self service kiosk and they call your number to pick it up at the counter. I only had the onion rings and they were hot and fresh. My fiancée liked his hot dog and was a little surprised the chili had beans in it. My friend and I decided to dine in and I was absolutely amazed with how Portillos looked inside! It was clean and organized! I loved that aspect of the restaurant! I noticed how helpful and friendly the staff was which is a plus in my opinion! The girl calling out the orders was funny she had a little funny remark after each one! The food was okay. I got the bacon cheese burger with fries. The burger wasn't the best. They're charred grilled which I usually like but I'm not sure this one just didn't hit. The fries would've been good but it feels like they dumped a whole bottle of salt on most of the fries.the Comeback sauce was good but just too vinegary. In my opinion the two best things out of my meal was the Coke Zero I got and the chocolate cake along with the chocolate shake! I think if I got just fries and a chocolate shake it would've balanced out. Overall if you want a decent burger and fries definitely come here. This was my first time here, and I had such a great experience! There were three of us in our group, and we each ordered our own meals while sitting at a cozy table. The restaurant is really clean and beautifully decorated, and the staff was super friendly and welcoming. I tried the Chicago-style hot dog with all the toppings, mustard, relish, celery salt, freshly chopped onions, sliced red ripe tomatoes, kosher pickle, and sport peppers piled onto a perfectly steamed poppy seed bun. First time ever trying this place and I don't have anything good to say about this place other than the environment was nice inside. Burgers were terrible, especially the cheese they add, on them. My recommendation, don't get cheese on your burger unless you are ok with being grossed out and like throwing your food away. Wow, I'm surprised how bad this place is. Fries are ok, remind me of the stock fries you get from the freezer section at Walmart/HEB. Worst choice of my day....wheres the Time Machine at when you need one. read more

Been hyped for Portillos to open and they did not disappoint! Huge indoor restaurant also with a drive thru. Once inside you can order off a screen or just wait in line and order with a human. I used the kiosk so I could take a little time to look at the menu and also to be able to add or substitute something. It was super busy inside but the food came out in a reasonable time. The crinkle cut fries with the cheese dip are delish! You can say how you want your sandwhich dipped. Dry, slightly wet. Or even gravy on the side. They also have some draft beers on tap ! I can see this restaurant doing very well in that location. It's a nice welcome to the area to get something new and exciting. read more

I've been to a couple in Chicago. The food was OK. The meat was good. It was a little too sauced for my liking my poor husband. It was his first time and when they put it in a bag and put the hotdog in all the chili and the whole hotdog was upside down. I would recommend when dining and that you guys do something a little different especially for us in Texas. Saw and wanted to try out, I enjoyed it! The hotdog was great and different, I love crinkled fries so that was a nice touch. The inside was huge, lots of tables to dine at and the vibes were cool in there. The only thing was service was ok. The cashier girl (G), has the softest, squeaky voice and is hard to hear over the music, when I apologized and asked to repeat herself she gave an attitude. I think she's just not fit for the register but there were so many people working there that it kind of threw me off that none of them were waiters and it's literally just a big space for you to serve yourself. I've been looking forward to trying Portillo's and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is visually appealing from the inside and outside. I ordered the Chicago dog and the plant-based dog. Also, onion rings and the chocolate cake. Both dogs were delicious. The buns tasted fresh, along with the dogs themselves; which were hot with just enough crispness on the casing. I have been looking forward to this moment since I read about it opening. I placed my order at the kiosk and went to find a booth. The booth was very clean. After a minute or two, my order was called. I picked it up and demolished the beef sandwich so quickly, I forgot to get a picture. It was incredible. Tables were dirty. We had to clean our own table. Drink area was dirty. Top on the unsweetened tea was on sitting on the tea cockeyed so that the tea was exposed. Italian Beef sandwich had no taste. If was very tender but no taste. The peppers were good but girl charged me $2 extra for the peppers. What real Italian Beef sandwich doesn't come with peppers? The Chicago Dog wasn't bad but the weenie was cold. I've had much better Chicago Dogs. The fries weren't crispy...they were actually soggy. Our nephew in California raves about Portillo's so we were really excited Humble was getting one. Unfortunately the one in Humble was not what we expected at all. $30 for subpar food. IN MY VERY OWN HUMBLE OPINION - its ok. No idea they soft opened last week but last night I tried to hustle in to get quick closing order of a few basics - cheeseburger meal and side order of sausage. The charbroiled is good, tasty not dry or overly grilled, fries were lukewarm and right amount of saltiness (prolly they're 20 mins to closing ) The strawberry milkshake is just AIGHT, ok. It had some strawberry bits on it though but not as creamy as WB. Polish sausage was ok as well, wouldnt order it again. Just not too delish for me that Id crave it like the way I crave for that cheap Costco hotdogs! Costco dogs can kick ass - even those street dogs in Manhattan cant hang side by side with it lol The burgers Ill definitely come back for it (if I crave charbroiled patties) but 5guys and WB are still on my first TOP 5's. Place looks cool, clean and chic. Crew so far are friendly and accomodating - only time will tell if they can compete with ChicF or Cane's consistent customer service. The sandwich was really soggy . I paid $20.00 for a soggy sandwich, it was plain but the peppers were good.
