This is something new and good for El Paso. I was lucky to be standing in line with a guy from Chicago (where these originate) and he told me his favorite was the Italian beef sandwich WITH sausage. I went for it and I thought it was great. The sausage is an entire link on one side of the sandwich and the beef on the other. It's like eating two different sandwiches at once. They had about 30-40 team members working, plus corporate support (a lot from Arizona), and it all ran smoothly for a preview day. The process was simple: * Check-in at the front * Optional $5 donation to the El Paso ISD Education Foundation * Grab your menu and head in The energy inside was actually one of the highlights. You can tell they're still training, but the staff made it fun. They were calling out orders, joking with customers, and keeping things upbeat. Every time someone ordered the Rodeo Burger, they'd shout it out, which added to the experience without feeling chaotic. Food-wise, everything I tried was solid: * Italian Beef with hot and sweet peppers -- very flavorful with a little spice; definitely get it dipped (I also dipped mine in cheese, which was worth it) * Chicago Dog -- classic and messy in the best way * Maxwell Street Polish -- nicely grilled and really good * Rodeo Burger -- fun and actually a strong menu item * Chocolate Cake -- surprisingly really good A few small observations: * Staff was very friendly, and the restaurant stayed clean the whole time * Drinks are Coke products * They ran out of ice briefly but kept refilling it * There's a second drink station in the back that's easy to miss I also tried the drive-thru and it was smooth, which is impressive before an official opening. Nice place. They play oldies and it brought back memories!! I order a sausage dog. Forgot the name of the hotdog. It was good. It had grilled onions and it was in a French roll bread. Oh so filling. In all honesty I am a big fan and have visited sights in several states. I was only 1 of 2 in house customers at lunch time. Ordered the Big Beef Italian beef with hot peppers. I asked for wet but got dryer than I like. Great taste. As a Perks member I also got the hot dog for just $1.00 USD. Nice. read more

The service was fantastic! Went the day after opening and everything I had seen on tables were exactly like I had hoped. Being from the Chicago area I was worried that El Paso wouldn't hold up to there standards. I read a complain about the bread being soggy well if you order it wet and don't know what that means that's what you get a dipped sandwich in the au jue . Of course it's gonna be wet and soggy and which in my opinion is the only way I order it. This is definitely a new taste here in El Paso which is 99.9 % Mexican food. Get out of your comfort zone and get a taste of another culture. I really hope after the training staff leave they can maintain the high standards of food quality that Portillos represents. First of all: Armando and Nancy were fantastic. They went far above and beyond for my celebration I had my 70th Birthday Party there and being from Chicago it was like going home. My entire party had a great time and the service was magnificent! My partner however, was sad that he could not get your amazing fish sandwich or a rack of ribs at this location. There was this blonde-ish man in drive thru who looked like he was the manager with his orange vest. I had a question and he completely ignored me. He seems very agitated and was very rude when I tried to repeat myself because I thought he didn't hear me. He definitely didn't wanna deal with me and this is not the service I was expecting.
