Since I've now had my first taste of Portillo's in Chicago, figured I'd give Texas a try. This time I ordered a regular size Italian beef and added the maxwell street polish sausage. The sammich gave me the same feel as Chicago though slightly better cause I didn't get it dipped. I got the gravy on the side which works better for my taste buds not liking wet bread. The dog with the onions was delicious. The restaurant is bright and new, but wasn't as lively as my Chicago experience. I heard the burger is fiyah so that's my next choice when I venture back!

Great location, complimented with friendly faces. Service was amazing everyone had a positive arrive and a smile. The cleanliness of the restaurant was top notch! Ordering food was a breeze and came out really fast, even during the lunch hour. Will definitely try again Happy Yelping

New Tomball restaurant! Been hearing a lot of hype so we figured we'd try it out. We looked online first and saw a bunch of various menu options like pasta and ribs but beware, since this is a new establishment their menu is limited so no pasta or ribs. We tried the burger, chili cheese dog and fries. Service was very friendly and patient as we asked questions and ordered. Food was okay but not anything that really stood out for us. Has an old fashioned diner feel and decor with upgrades and lots of seats. Ordering can be done with self serve monitors or at the register with a live person. Lots of seating so I can see big parties come through if they're looking for something quick to eat. They even have outdoor seating which will be great once it gets cooler.

Visited Sunday inside to eat, around 11:30am. Food- cold. Service- poor. Ambiance- awful. condiments depleting, garbage full, rare to find inside seating, dirty tables & seats. Waited 20 min from the time of order at the counter, where the GM couldn't hear anything we were saying and asked over and over again until little did we know until pick up, getting part of it wrong. Once we got the order, and I asking for the "#1 with sweet &hot peppers" with also the cheeseburger meal, we didn't get the fries for the #1 I ordered because he didn't hear that part but we did get a cold order post 20min wait. Being from Chicago, I can say please put this place on pause, go to any of the locations in Illinois - train the entire staff and spend a lot of time focusing on operations, then reopen here when ready. I'm not sure how you can even be getting the food wrong.

As a Chicago native I've been very excited to finally have Portillo's in Houston! The decor was spot on for the classic look of a Portillo's. The food tasted exactly how I remember. I got the beef bowl to add to my own gluten free bun. The French fries are crispy and the chocolate shake is deliciously creamy. The restaurant was relatively empty on a Saturday night so I hope business picks up. The service was not as efficient as the busy locations in Chicago and the cashier didn't seem to understand the menu that well yet. Our order was missing a cheeseburger but the manager promptly took care of fixing the mistake. I also recommend the burgers and you absolutely have to try the chocolate cake!

Portillo's office of variety of different foods they offer hotdog sub sandwiches and hamburgers. As for the hamburgers, be prepared if you order a double meat that thing is humongous and it's a lot of food and really goes good with their cheese fries and a good old Coke makes it work out just right as for the hotdog dogs their hotdog dogs come in sometimes you can get two for one or two price for two and they offer different ways to do the Chicago styles and they'll you know other styles with mustard, ketchup, and relish or you can get it with just chili cheese dog and in place and they also have a unique sausage. It's a Polish sausage on a hotdog bun with mustard and grilled onions. It is very very good so if you get to check Portillo get there and check it out, it's worth it.

I've driven by Portillo's several times and finally decided to stop in. I ordered a sausage brat with everything, which came out to about $7. Unfortunately, the brat was lukewarm and not really worth the price. The restaurant itself looks awesome inside, but I did notice quite a few dirty tables, which took away from the experience. Since it's still a new location, I'm guessing they may be working through some early issues. I'm willing to give it a second chance and try something else next time--maybe a burger--and see if the experience improves.

Loved the food!! Yall the fries. I will drive for the fries!! I had a beef sandwich and it's on point. The service was fantastic!! We were coming from a football game and they took care of us right before they closed. The ambiance is this awesome diner style and sooo much fun! We will be back!! Drive by and caught my attention to be a fun diner to visit. Looked busy so needed to try it out. Wasn't disappointed and so much to see as you come in; 50's rock and roll memorabilia and music. Either use the 4 self service kiosks to order your meal or go the old fashion way and order w live person. Always like the friendly interaction with real person. Since it was my first visit, I ended going with their specialty menu and choose #2 with 2 dogs (Chicago style) w pickles, tomatoes and the works. Came w fries and drink. Delicious and filing. Decided to take the other one home. Fries and 1 dog was enough to fill my craving. Definitely will come back to try the other many choices on the menu. Spacious dining area w mixed tables and booths. Make sure to look around and see all the interesting wall and ceiling hanging decors. Realized after reading the history that Portillo's is as old as I am; 1963 since the first stand.

Quality sister dining time at Portillo's in Tomball!
    Jessica L.

Went with my sister tonight and had our first dining experience at a Portillo's. The parking lot was huge, and there was plenty of outdoor dining space. When we walked in we were welcome by old rock and roll music from the 50's and polished vintage feel of a diner. There were 4 self order stations if you don't feel like ordering from the main counter. We ordered at the main counter and had a lovely employee help us out with the menu. I ordered small fries, a soda, and the Italian Beef Sandwich with sweet peppers, in "the classic/standard style" (which means they slightly drip the sandwich in gravy), they also offer a dry and a dipped option. I asked the employee at the counter if the dipped option makes the sandwich more soggy, and she sort of nodded and said "I never get it dipped, I think it is too wet". My sister and I also ordered a side of onion rings to share and she ordered herself a side of cheese sauce, and a chocolate cake milkshake. We were given our receipts and cups (my sister had water) and were told our order would be announced when the meal was ready to be picked up at their pick up counter that was situated next to cubbies for their delivery orders. There was a soda machine station that offered Coke products, napkins, cutlery, straws, cup covers and a ketchup dispenser with good sized cups for the ketchup. It seemed like it was either a slow night, or the restaurant was just too big, because there was plenty of seating even with about 20 people sitting at their tables or booths. There was enough room for a kids baseball team with parents in there, if needed, that's not even counting the outside patio that wrapped around the front and one side of the building. When my order was announced I went to the pick up counter with my ticket to confirm it was my order. The food was fresh and hot. I played it all out in front of me to get a good look at the size of everything (and a photo op). The small crinkle fries were a really great size, almost like a large. The taste of the fries was passable, there was no seasoning but for a little bit of salt. I had to dip the fries into the ketchup to give them some taste, so the fries weren't my favorite. The large onion rings were nice and crispy. The sandwich itself had a generous amount of Italian Beef, and the sweet peppers were nice and large to have a piece in every bite. Having a "classic" bread, where they lightly dip it i to the juice helped give it some nice flavor. The beef and the peppers were tasty, but more than halway through my sandwich i could start to sense the bread was getting a bit more wet, so I took a picture of some of the juices that was coming off of it. I ate the entire sandwich and was left feeling full. My sister let me have a taste of her chocolate cake shake, and boy was it exactly as advertised. A bit too thick for my liking, but she loved it. Before leaving I went to the restroom and found it to be nice and clean, as was the rest of the restaurant. Overall I'd say next time I'll try one of their hotdogs to see if it's worth going back a third time.

I totally get the hype about this place! If I lived nearby, you can bet I'd work my way through…read moretheir whole menu. There's just something different about this style of sandwich. I've had sandwiches in NYC and Boston, but Tony's were definitely better! The menu is overwhelming because so much sounds good, so we went with two 7 inch sandwiches to split--one hot and one cold. Although a helpful tip from the cashier is that you can order any cold sandwich hot. We had the Lucky Luciano (hot) and the Sophia (cold). Both were really good--it was hard to choose between the two. But if I'm being honest, that cold sandwich was reminiscent of subs I loved in the early 2000s from places that no longer exist...with that super thinly sliced turkey, thick slice of Swiss cheese, and basil mayo--it really hit the spot. We also had a cannolo--not as good as others I've had. The bottled root beer was delightful. The Lucky Luciano was the kind of sandwich I came here for, and don't get me wrong, it is deliciously cheesy and will make your hands messy. But the Sophia is the kind of sandwich I'll be craving. My only regret was not taking a sandwich to-go for later. Open a location closer to Houston, please. :)

They are a pepsi place (booooooo!), and there's no diet pepsi (pepsi zero is their only zero calorie soda option). If you drink Diet Coke (most popular diet drink in USA), then you don't want diet pepsi, but you'll probably drink it if you have to; however, you're very likely to hate pepsi zero (and Coke Zero, too), so no soda for you here anymore! A full Coke setup that also includes Dr Pepper AND Diet Dr Pepper is ideal. I realize a pepsi fountain is more profitable because of distributor incentives, but pepsi is favored by almost nobody and hated by many...so is it really worth it? Tony's is so great that pepsi just does not fit in. Hopefully they don't deteriorate further and change to Wonderbread for all of their sandwiches. Bottom line: at the very least, please add diet pepsi to your soda machine if that brand remains in place.

To start off, when I ordered my coffee, the guy at the register said they didn't have 8oz coffees. I was staring right up at the sign, and he said he didn't know why it said that because he didn't see it in the computer. (But gave me an 8oz cup anyway and charged me for a 12oz) I thought maybe he didn't know what a small 8oz looked lik? lol Not sure. Then I waited for about 20 minutes for them to bring me out a vegetarian sand which. I was the only person there for the first 10 minutes, and it seemed like either the guy forgot to tell them to make the sandwich, or the ladies forgot themselves. Because 10 minutes later the guy looked at me and apologized and said that it should be out in 3 minutes. Another 10 minutes later and still nothing. I was pretty annoyed at this point because how long does it take to throw some veggies together on a sand which!! I think he noticed at this point so he apologized to me again and said " I just told them to make it". At this point I was super annoyed, but I just waited. Meanwhile I waited I also noticed other customers had walked in and ordered a handful of desserts and it looked like they had to go back up to the counter because they were missing some of their order. I finally got my sandwich and left because it honestly seems like a cluster fuck. Thankfully the sandwhich was amazing. The mango dessert was, eh. Especially for the price point. I really don't like leaving negative reviews, but I felt this place was really deserving of one. Customer service was not there- he was not very friendly. Food took WAY LONGER than it should've especially because I was the only one there at first and for what I ordered. He didn't even know the specifics of their menu. Just absolutely disappointed. Will not be coming back

We ordered online and went through the drive-thru to pick up. When we pulled up to the window, no one even opened it to greet us. Then there was a 10-15 minute wait, which would have been one thing...I understand delays happen. What made it so frustrating was that with multiple employees working, not one person took a second to acknowledge the delay or simply say, "Hey, sorry for the wait, your food will be out soon." That's just basic courtesy. When we finally got our order, the employee handed us the food without saying a word. No apology, no explanation, nothing. We quickly checked the bag and everything seemed okay. Then we got home and realized that instead of fries, we were given potato wedges!!! It was BEYOND frustrating. If fries were unavailable, that should have been communicated before making the substitution!! Customers should at least be given the courtesy of deciding if they want something different instead of just finding out after they get home. What makes this even more frustrating is that this could have been avoided with simple communication and basic customer service. Today's experience was not just disappointing...it was extremely frustrating and honestly left us really bothered. I'm writing this in hopes that it's addressed with staff, because proper communication and basic courtesy should be the standard.
