Came here for a quick lunch and couldn't decide on whether I wanted breakfast or lunch, so I went with both!!! This pancake was bigger than my face, and was one of the best I've had in a long time. It was light and fluffy, and had a nice crisp to the top of it as well. Smothered in melted butter and syrup, every bite was so good. I also had some of their breakfast sausage, which was soooo good, and great to get a two bite in one with the pancake and sausage together!!! I also opted to get the chicken avocado club. The bread was toasted beautifully, there was lots of bread with the meal, so I ended up taking out the middle bread piece. The bacon was perfectly crispy, chicken grilled nicely, the only thing I wanted more of was avocado, didn't seem to be on 2 of my 4 slices. The fries were super hot, fresh, and crispy. Our service was really great, such a sweet woman that took care of us and also checked on us often. Food was excellent. SERVICE WAS TERRIBLE!!!!! We waited 30 minutes, no waiter. Then we went to Hostess to ask where is our waiter? She found him, name is "KJ". He showed up, looked disheveled. T-shirt was out, messy with food crumbs all over his shirt. He had a dirty cloth in his hands. Took our drink order and our meal. Then he never came back. Again we asked the hostess to intervene. Got our food. He never came back to refill our drinks or take away our dirty dishes or ask if wanted more fish. Other tables in his section had dirty dishes on them and needed to be cleared. We looked for him and saw he was shooting the breeze with coworkers instead of waiting on customers. We asked hostess when KJ came to work, thinking he might be at the end of his shift and was tired. He started his shift at 4 pm and we came to eat at 6 pm. Overall, he needs more training to be a waiter or needs to be fired! We will return to BBD, but at Shenandoah location next time because the food is excellent!! read more

We stopped by after church on a Sunday and only waited about 20 minutes, which honestly felt pretty impressive for such a busy day. Our server, McKenzie, was incredibly accommodating and kept a smile on her face despite the restaurant being packed. There was a small mix-up with my order, but McKenzie handled it immediately and happily, turning what could have been an inconvenience into a complete non issue. She was welcoming, attentive, and made us feel right at home. As for the food, it was absolutely delicious! Every bite was worth the wait, and we're already talking about making this part of our regular Sunday routine. The atmosphere was just as enjoyable as the meal. It felt very family oriented, with everyone enjoying good food, good company, and a great time. The entire restaurant had a friendly, welcoming vibe that made the experience even better. Been to several Black Bear diners, this one is new to Tomball. This diner did not disappoint. We came on Monday, Memorial Day, the diner was busy but we were sat quickly as there was only two of us. Our waiter was very polite and was consistent on checking on us. My husband and I ordered the same breakfast, as I did not plan to eat lunch so we had the Chicken Fried Steak breakfast the smaller one there is a larger portion. Coffee and chocolate milk were our beverages they do have creamer you have to ask for it. Decor was log cabin style inside with lots of black bear motifs and so on. They have a gift area where you can buy black bear related items as well as you can purchase pastries to take home. Late night hunger strikes again. It was around 9 so we were shocked they were still open. Brooklynn sat us and was great from start to finish waiting on us. Genuine smile, attentive, and most importantly kept our drinks full. I love the foresty diner feel, lots of tables and option to sit at the diner in front of the kitchen. Unfortunately, the food just didn't hit the spot for us because we like flavor and nothing on our plates seemed to have any distinctive flavors to wow us. Pretty sure that is done on purpose so we can add salt and pepper and not everyone likes flavor but that's a big thing for me so I don't have to do anything extra. On top of this my burger was loaded with red onions that were not fully grilled and still had some of the tough skin on so when I would bite in onions rings were sliding out of the burger making it hard to enjoy. That's said, the bread had a perfect crunch and was not soggy. Overall experience was wonderful. I have been to other Black Bear Diners and this is right up there with the others. I ordered the $10.99 pick ur eggs, starch and meat. I got 2 scrambled eggs, 2 sausage links and 2 pancakes. All were delicious. The service was fast and efficient. I ordered both my drinks and food together, so that was a time saver. Ordered and got my food within 8-10 min. All was fresh and hot. If you don't like bears before you eat here, you will by the time you leave, LOL. There is a huge bear mural, bears climbing logs in the dining room and bears outside welcoming you inside to eat. There is also bear merch in the lobby if you care to purchase. The place has a laid back Colorado feel to it like a forest with a restaurant adjacent to it. The whole staff was very friendly. I went in a weekday at lunchtime. This was our first trip to this newer location. The restaurant was clean and not crowded. They seemed to have more merchandise than the location we have previously been to. Our food was served promptly, our waiter followed up throughout our meal. I had the Bears Choice and split the French toast w my son. The food was cooked well, the bacon was tasty and not overcooked. This was my first time visiting this restaurant, and I was initially impressed by the quick food and friendly service. However, a serious issue arose when my daughter bit into her chicken strips and found them raw inside. We informed the server, who told the manager, but the manager never addressed us. They made no attempt to rectify the situation--no apology, no replacement. I had to approach the manager about the issue I was severely disappointed by their lack of attention to the severity of this issue. This is my second time at Black Bear diner in Tomball, the food was OK, I ordered the chicken Caesar sandwich, the chicken was a bit tough and slightly pink. The french fries were delicious.. I loved the cheese that they put on the sandwich. The service started out pretty good, however, did not remain that way. I do not believe it is my place to talk bad about someone, but I do believe that management and owners should know about their customers experience so that they can better their business. I truly like what black bear diner is doing and how they give to children with serious illnesses and help rule mountain communities by buying their coffee and providing clean water and education to children. So I do not want to see this place fail. I visited the diner a while back and had a wonderful experience and excellent food. But this time the service made me not want to come back. I've been here before in another state and loved it. They just opened this location near where I live and it's always busy. I decided to order something new, and honestly, I do not recommend ordering the Cinnabon fresh toast unless you love Cinnabon's. Wish I would have just gotten the pancakes. My family ordered that and I enjoyed them way more. Also recommend ordering the FRESH OJ! So good! Our waiter was excellent too and the restrooms were clean. Overall had a great experience and will be back; however I'll just order something I know I like. My kids took me here Saturday for my bday and they hadn't yet been here. It was super busy with a line out the door but we were seated within 15 minutes and had zero complaints. Our first visit to this location. Pretty much everything was good, service, wait, and overall friendliness of the staff, everything but the chicken pot pie. Way way way too salty. Several people asked how things were and we told our server, and two other people that the pot pie was too salty. The woman we told already knew, and went on to say that they knew it was an issue, and they were working on it. Apparently the kosher salt they used was stronger than table salt? IDK, all I know is I couldn't eat it, and nobody offered to adjust our tab or exchange the chicken pot pie for something else. That's a shame. A good staff, whether it's a server or a manager, should have recognized immediately that I was not eating my dinner and should have done something about it. I acknowledge the fact that they have been open for exactly one week, but that does not absolve them from expecting someone to pay for something that can't be eaten. I visited the diner today and ordered the new menu item: Avocado Toast with eggs and loaded grits. Unfortunately, the preparation of the meal made me think this dish may not remain on the menu for long. I've included a photo to show how it looked when it arrived. In addition to the poor presentation, my toast was missing tomatoes. I informed my waitress, who let me know they had been forgotten and that she would bring them out. Shortly after, a manager came to the table and asked if everything was okay. I explained that I was dissatisfied with the presentation and asked why the tomatoes were missing. She then told me that because I ordered grits, the avocado toast would not come with tomatoes. This was confusing, as the menu clearly states that the avocado toast includes: 1. Toast, 2. Avocado, and 3. Tomatoes, with an option to add eggs. The choice of fruit or grits as a side should not affect the ingredients on the toast. Eventually, I did receive the tomatoes along with an extra slice of avocado (which I didn't request). After adding salt and pepper to the otherwise bland dish, it became edible. This was my first visit, and given the restaurant's convenient location, I hope future experiences are better. Overall, the restaurant was clean and efficient, and the staff were friendly and courteous. However, considering how simple the dish is, a bit more attention--such as proper seasoning--would greatly improve it. read more

Ordered a dinner salad for my side since they were out of the veggies and it was pure water and lettuce, nothing else, that leaked since they put it sideways in the bag. The country red skinned potatoes that say they have peppers and onions in them, DON'T. It was a pile of plain greasy potatoes, again, with ZERO flavor. Should have taken a pic of the salmon/mashed potatoes but unfortunately didn't. I honestly don't give bad reviews because I don't want to make companies look bad but this one is well worth the review. First time trying Black Bear Diner and this location knocked it out of the park!!! Service was incredible! Everyone was very friendly and our server was very attentive. I ordered the Denver omelette and subbed the biscuit for a pancake. I've seen many comments below saying the food is bland and needs more salt, but to me everything was seasoned perfectly. The diner is very accommodating with any special requests or modifications to your meal. The entrance and gift shop area made me believe the dining area would be small, but I was wrong. The dining area has a bunch of seating options such as booths, regular tables, and they even have a "bar" area. This place is a definite must try if you want a place that has breakfast items as well as lunch/dinner options!! I'll definitely be back to try their fish and other dinner options. read more

Food was just "ok". Meatloaf was flavorful, but it was dry and small portion. Mac and cheese very good!!!! All of our food was lukewarm temp at best...none of it was hot. Service was just ok, but the kitchen got our order wrong and the server didn't do anything to fix it. Would I go back here? Probably not. Arrived early to meet a pal. Guys at the door were distracted and so I just went and sat down near a window. Teyy (pronounced tay) saw me and came to ask if I wanted a drink. Very nice of her. One of the door guys came over and said, "you bypassed us, don't do that again". Teyy was not pleased at the tone, but I told her I was just waiting... Teyy went on to make sure I was fine while I waited, asked if I had questions. I asked for a Mimosa, but they had no sparkling wine, but she made a great alternative suggestion. When my friend arrived, Teyy came over at once, and took great care of us for the rest of our visit. I was impressed by how fast the delicious food came out, as the place was suddenly humming with breakfast crowds...it was about 8 AM by this time. Very busy place.
