First, their bread is excellent - not surprising, because they sell Gleba bread. Diogo Amorim from Gleba is probably one of the best bread bakers in Lisbon. He spent two years finding the perfect varietals of grains from small farmers across the country, ground them in his stone mill, and let the dough rises for as much as 28 hours before baking in the oven. Their bread has the perfect texture and a nice tangy sourdough flavor.
Besides bread, there are sandwiches, rolls, pies and tarts, including natas. Well, the natas aren't as good as Belem's, but whose is? Portela roasts their own coffee and offer it in a variety of brewing method. There's gelato to, though I didn't get to try them. For lunch, they offer soup and a simple entree.
They have a latte brulee, which is made by sprinkling sugar on top of the crema and caramelizing it. It does add a nice flavor.
Everything here is simply delicious, I love this place. read more
