We ate dinner at the Portage last night and the food was so good we went back again this evening. The food, service and ambiance was very good on both visits. The first night we met a Scottish server who gave us great information about his homeland. Very friendly and informative young man. The food was excellent. I had the meatloaf dinner with mashed potatoes and fresh green beans. My brother had noodle stir fry with shrimp and my other brother ordered the same plate as mine but with chicken. We could not believe how delicious everything tasted. A+ to the chef. Tonight we did the same dishes with different people and we were not disappointed. The curry coconut soup was very tasty. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area and want a very good home cooked meal. read more

Went in on a Saturday night without reservations so sat at the bar. That was actually a good call. The bartender was excellent as was our service there. Could tell the waitresses on the floor were falling behind. Probably they could use a bus person or food delivery person to help the waitresses out. As for the food the spinach, artichoke pizza and blueberry BBQ chicken pizza were excellent! Beer selection was good also. Hope to return later in the week. My husband and I stopped into the Portage Tap House during a beautiful scenic ride through the mountains. This place is a hidden gem. The service, ambience and food is all exceptional. It's not just a tap house, they have a full bar. Everything is made to order. My husband had the special soup of the day lobster corn chowder. I had a cup of their gumbo, both were full of flavor. We then had a pretzel with beer cheese, sooo good. From there we shared a half rack of ribs with the house made blueberry bbq sauce. These are a must try. We can't wait to come back. Our waitress was Morgan and she was awesome! Getting us a timely drink, appetizer and food. All came out timely and hot where applicable. This is the third and last time I will come to this establishment. The staff is phenomenal but the food is not the greatest. Last trip this weekend with my elderly Mom and brother. Mussels, roasted chicken, and ribs ordered. Out of the the three only one was fully edible, the ribs. The mussels were dried out and crusty, had to push them off to the side and the chicken was tough for my mother to cut and the asparagus was tough. The chicken wasn't cooked all the way through! The asparagus was not mature enough to be eaten. Due to lightning we could not see that the chicken was close to raw at the core but did notice blood running when cut in too. Again, staff were great took, away the mussels and were very apologetic assuring us we would not be charged. Dessert was wonderful pan apple pie. read more

Excellent service, atmosphere, and food/drink. Ordered the poutine and soft pretzel for an app and both were delicious. Meals were pizza, steak and short rib and each were amazing. We called for a takeout order at 4:30 (half an hour after they opened) and the next available pick up time was 9:30. That being said, the food was worth the wait. What a awesome place in of all places Oquossoc, ME. In the winter snowmobilers will love it since it is right of a trail. Food is much more fancy and fresh for such a rural place but I truly enjoy that. Pizza was awesome. Had mussels which were delicious. There beer selection is local and quite large. Have flights so you can try multiple beers at once. Service is friendly and hard working. Why the 4 stars? There were at times when the bartender and some wait staff had difficulty with wearing their masks appropriately. They overall did good though. read more

Found this spot after a lake cruise while looking for a quick dinner. Excellent cocktails and lots of amazing Maine beers on tap. Had a bison burger and a steak and cheese baguette which were amazing. The brick oven pizzas walking by looked and smelled like wicked good and will definitely get one next time but we had pizza for lunch. They also had a cute patio with heaters set up. The North Woods finest restaurant. A great choice for my wife's birthday dinner. Wood fired pizza was spot on. I had the meat lovers, loaded thin crust pizza that was amazing with a Lunch IPA from Maine Beer Company. My daughter had pizza too with sausage, she loved it as well and she is very picky with her pizza. My wife ordered the ribs, fall off the bone tender with a side salad topped with crispy onions. Interesting that the serve buffalo instead of ground beef. Best restaurant in the Rangeley area hands down. Sophisticated rural with beautiful wood canoes hanging from the ceilings. Waitress attentive, friendly and great. Menu small but manageable for kitchen size. Ordered apps ...poutine with crispy pork and fire grilled brussel sprouts. BS highlight...crispy hot and tasty. Poutine somehow semi warm and pork just on edge of not being crispy. Good, but not a stand out. Split a Magaritiville pizza as main. Wafer thin crust with good ingredients. dessert flourerless tort and cheesecake..forgot to take pic so pic is generic similar of desserts..both well made. Overall worth a second trip. read more

Best gf pizza crust I've EVER had! I even had to double check with the server to make sure it was their gf cauliflower crust because it was that good. I had the clam pizza (don't turn up your nose...just try it! You won't be disappointed!). A friend had the BBQ Chicken pizza (on gf crust) topped with house made blueberry BBQ sauce. Oh and their lamb lollipops are melt-in-your-mouth delicious! Have also tried the Buffalo pizza and Bison burger. Haven't had a bad meal there yet. Will be going back to try more! read more

Typical new "TAP HOUSE" With a way too high ceiling and no sound dampening, and Edison bulbs, same beer types etc... Food was fine, atmosphere was wrong for downtown Oquossoc, unless you want Oquossoc restaurants to be like every single brew pub opened in a mid sized city in the last 10 years. Derivative, overpriced for what you get (24 dollars for a medium small rack of ribs), Bill came to $120 for 3 people and one not drinking, and not fitting with the character of the town. I give this restaurant until the next recession. read more

We had "The Duo" as an appetizer (sriracha hummus and whipped feta with pita and veggies). My husband had the bison burger and I had the lamb kofta for the main course. Everything was delicious, and they have a great selection of Maine microbrews. We did not make a reservation, and got seated quickly, but it was Monday night in the off season. We loved this place! Beer menu is diverse enough to have something for everyone, including those who like Bud Light (bless their hearts). We started with the Brussel Sprouts, did not love them since they were not prepared the way we like (see photo) but they did have cheese which was a plus. (Slice those puppies up a bit and I'll be back every day to get them!) I got a pizza and Dave got the ribs. We were both very happy. Service was good and attentive...not fast by NJ standards but definitely not slow by ME standards. We will be back again! read more

We recently visited PTH while up with the fam over Christmas vacation. What a great addition to the quaint little town of Oquossoc! The restaurant has a rustic industrial vibe which is done very well! A place you'd expect to visit in a city like Portland or Boston! The bar is plenty big with a vast selection of beer on tap and other domestics & imports. Also a good wine and liquor selection along with specialty drinks! We tried a few apps. The wood fired Cajun dry rub wings, pepperoni pizza & buff chix pizza. All were delicious! The coal fired pizza is what you would expect to find at any high end coal fired restaurant in a Big city! This place is legit! Try it! The servers and bartender are all very friendly and helpful! Definitely give this place a try you won't be disappointed! 2 Thumbs up! The Portage Tap House was delicious. The wings were really good and definitely could have been the main meal. We also really enjoyed the Buffalo chicken dip with the toasted garlic bread bites. I am a thin crust pizza kind of guy and this pizza was perfect. My wife also really enjoyed her steak and cheese baguette. When we went in at 4:30 the place was 1/3 full. Lots of empty seats. We were told they didn't have room for us ( when clearly there was at least one table set for four) and they had all the other tables reserved for parties of 6 or more. It would have been 6:30 before they could fit us in. We will not go back. read more

We drove 3 hours to eat here, we always do. The food and service was excellent, as always. Whenever we stop there by truck or snowmobile we purchase a hat, etc. I was looking at their sweatshirts when the manager came over and she said we don't have any large or XL in stock. She then took the medium sweatshirt, re-folded it and put it on the shelf. I was embarrassed. my husband asked me why she would say that, "was she calling you fat?". This is a great restaurant, both food and beer selection, and am actually returning today. As for the "Thin Blue Line" flag; it did throw up some alarms for me, but I try and give people the benefit of the doubt, especially since I actually had to look it up to be sure in this case. That flag "has" been co-opted from its original meaning and many police departments are no longer allowing it to be displayed. Y'all have a wonderful restaurant, and should probably stay apolitical. You might be better off making your own sign saying you support "First Responders". As for me and being a Military Service Member, I did like seeing U.S. Flag in the restaurant. I wish y'all nothing but the best, and I am looking forward to having some pizza and a beer at your restaurant today. As for the flag, well... now you know. read more
