Quoted 20 minutes for a takeout burger, fries and cornbread. I arrived and was asked to pay (and tip!) promptly. After paying, I learned of a miscommunication in the kitchen and was asked to check back in after about 10 minutes. On my second arrival, I was told that the "cornbread was just coming out of the oven" with no other updates or communication for the following 15 minutes . 50 minutes after calling (and receiving my 20 minute quote) I was out the door - no utensils, no condiments and a soggy burger bun. My meal: Burger was on the colder side, the cheese had gone translucent across the top of my patty. I had one hearty slice of romaine and a 1/2" thick crosscut of red onion as my toppings. BBQ is alright and very overpriced. I understand most all BBQ is expensive but there was no reason for this food to be so expensive at the quality it was. Even the sides that aren't BBQ were very expensive. Table was sticky and unclean. The bartender is the server and there seems to be only one person working in the kitchen so service was sub par. The corn bread was probably my least favorite thing on the menu that we ordered. I love some good cornbread whenever I get BBQ and this was not even cornbread. It was literally just a piece of bread that most restaurants offer for free. It had no flavor and seemed like a mix of homemade bread mix and white cake/cupcake mix. I always enjoy my time here at the Shed. Jenn is wonderful! They did a great job with Co-vid compliance with throw away menus, clear signage for seating and plenty of it too. Limited bar selections at the moment, but a good selection of beers both on tap and in bottles. I dined here twice this week and thought both meals were good. The Beef Gyro did not shine as the other items in the menu however. I'm from NY and love gyros so was excited for this. The meat was seasoned perfectly, the dressing was very good as was the bread. Served with sautéed onions and peppers ? Hm I am used too lettuce tomatoes and raw onion. I removed the sautéed veggies to enjoy this. Still very good and would recommend with the knowledge of the veggies. The Brisket sandwich again hits the mark. Tender and sassy Yum! Walk-ins - she sat you, menus, drinks etc... walk-ins, she took you order, call-ins she took those orders. Sat more people - served people their drinks! Went back to the kitchen to get appetizer orders for any table that ordered them, then gave tables their drinks and on and on.... Plastic cups for drinks... $3.50???? Wowww. I needed an extra "plate" got a French fry paper holder for a plate.... The ribs were amazing! The burger was mehhh. For the size it could have used more cheese... We were excited to have some ribs. Rude bar tender/owners chick, explained that they are NOT a BBQ restaurant and only do ribs one day a week. He cooks them on Wednesdays when they're closed and doesn't open again until 4pm the next day. We ordered a ribeye and a smoked brisket. The ribeye was cooked to death (asked for medium), the brisket was the small end of a ribeye. (My husband is a butcher.) Run of the mill frozen French fries and I'm sure, store bought Cole slaw. Almost $100. We were going to dine-in but the bar tender was so rude, we asked for it to go and ended up throwing it out when we got home. Waste of time and money. Appreciated that take out was still an option, but was disappointed to see a jam-packed patio with a band and no one wearing a mask. Waited in line for a good bit to pick up my order, as the only bartender was also the only cashier (despite a male employee standing there watching the line). The bartender was wearing a mask around her chin. There was 1 outdoor waitress who had a mask on consistently. Lack of following/enforcing current state mandates aside, the food wasn't worth the cost. Brisket was excessively fatty and tough. Way too much sauce on the sandwich. Pulled pork was fine but again, so covered in sauce that was all you could taste. I travel to Rangeley twice a year. Will not return here. read more

Not the idea I had when looking at photo on wall with sour cream. The chili was basically a cup of taco meat and tasted no different than the taco seasoning you buy in a packet from your local supermarket. The wings came attached. The saving grace was their burger. The menu is odd to me. BBQ and your typical items but then the other half of the menu is Mexican food. The pulled pork dinner was huge and very tasty. It comes with 2 sides. We had the baked beans and Mac and cheese. The pork was juicy. The Mac and cheese was super creamy- just like homemade. The taco salad was large and filled with items. When you ask for the beef it is ground beef which really made no sense to me. I would have expected steak tips. The Enchilada pie was fit for 2-3 meals. I loved the concept of this meal. Shell on bottom and one on top. The middle contained pounds of meat, beans sauce and topped with cheese. It looked like a Mexican lasagna. Very yummy. The prices were reasonable. The staff was friendly. The menu is small. The only issue (which seems be typical here in rangeley) is slow kitchen. I was told 20 minutes for pick up and it was just over 30 minutes. Ate at the shed last night after some fairly mediocre meals elsewhere, and am happy to report that Rangeley finally has a bonafide BBQ joint. The pork ribs were tender, juicy, and sticky with smoked-in deep delicious flavor. You could tell they were fresh because they needed a little nudge to slide off the bone, but with one bite I was tearing the meat cave-man style and searching out that next rib - couldn't get enough of this BBQ house staple, that is the universal standard used for comparing one smoke shack to another, and the Shed takes 5 stars for their awesome sticky ribs. We also had pulled pork sliders that were too good to be true, served on mini-brioche with the Shed's modernized cole slaw on top, giving the fresh crunch and salady flavor that provided the perfect balance to the tangy sweetness of the pulled pork. A ranch cut prime rib steak is offered occasionally, and you're advised to get it whenever it's available - it's a smokey tender piece of beef that you'll be dreaming about when you come down out of the mountains for months. The required sides of mac n' cheese, cornbread, baked beans, and the afore mentioned slaw are also available, and where many BBQ houses put little attention towards these must-have side items, the Shed does the reverse and gets high marks on all, especially the cornbread (which you'll want to order extra of to bring home and have for breakfast) and homemade baked beans which compliment the main dishes without stealing the show. The mac n' cheese will fulfill its duty of being the perfect comfort food. Lastly, the custom made pine slab bar will provide you with a comfortable and neighborly place to sit and enjoy a cocktail while you watch the twilight etch designs in the sky over Rangeley lake, the perfect antidote to a hard day of four-season-fun, before you embark on your culinary adventure into cherry-wood smoked deliciousness. We were on our way the Rangeley and looking for a spot to eat that wasn't packed and this seemed like the best bet for lunch. Plenty of outdoor seating and indoor if that's your preference. Menu was pretty small but might be due to COVID. Cute bar inside as well and we were greeted promptly on walking in. We were told they had the best pulled pork around so we got the pulled pork sandwich with fries. Now I had low expectations being a southern boy I know good bbq and I haven't been impressed since moving to Maine but let me tell you this might be the best BBQ pulled pork sandwich I've ever had. It was a sweet red sauce and the porn was to die for. The bun was toasted and fresh and sweet to I can't sing high enough praise. All this in the middle of a mountain town I was in heaven. We scarfed down every bit and will be back again even if it's a 2 hour drive. This is a must for any bbq fan and I'll be sure to add a review of the brisket on my next visit! read more

Sandwiches were ready in 30 minutes and delicious - tender and flavorful, excellent meat-sauce-bun ratio (mostly meat!), and quick service. I made two trips this week, I had the brisket sandwich both times, brisket was moist and non-fatty with a real good dark and sweet bbq sauce with a chunky and crunchy cole slaw on top, even with the combination the sandwich held together well and wasn't sloppy. I had mine with fries and they were real good. It cost 14 bucks not bad for its hardiness and Rangeley location. It was plenty of food. The owner used to operate the Farm House restaurant which had excellent Mexican food. The shed offers quesadilla and tacos so that will be my choice next time. read more

Labor Day weekend we were up her e and stopped into this joint right on the main road a little north of the "downtown" area. There was a decent band outside, tiki torches, and a pig roast. We were late for the roast but I got twin lobsters for $16 and they were excellent. A limited but decent beer selection. I didn't have any bbq but what I saw looked pretty good. Whatever, dude. I'm in fucking Rangeley Maine. I think people need to temper their expectations a bit when they drive up from whatever bbq mecca they hail from. Sent two of four children in to get seats and water for six people. When I walked in they were being served soda, when questioned they said they only have bottled water, yes they were correct. Waitress had an attitude, why would I spend $80.00 + on food and another $20 plus on bottled water, no options here. I paid the $4.70 for the two drinks, dumped them in the trash and ate at a great place 500 feet away, water with ice. ps I was told this town has great water and bottles for Polan Spring. And right on Main Street makes it an equal attraction and easy to walk to from the upper Main Street stores. Clean, spacious & plenty of beers on tap. It offers a great little menu. "You had me at, Tool Box..." we have been here several times, and this rustic BBQ place is a true diamond. Locally owned (Chef/owner), this restaurant has their act together. Outdoor tables are a great summer/fall option, with a spectacular view of Northern Maine's mountains and lake. I get 'The Tool Box' every time. Heaven! My only disappointment is that they are closed on Sunday, which means I cannot get a tool box to go, as we head home. read more

At first glance I was not sure about this place. I am very glad I was too hungry to search for another restaurant. We split a brisket sandwich and a lobster roll and the adult children had a rack of ribs, a Jackhammer burger and Toolbox burger. Everyone raved about all of their meals. Now everyone is talking about our next trip back here (this was our first to Rangeley). You need to try this place. They also have a decent beer selection. This is my favorite place to eat in the town of Rangeley! The Shed BBQ. I went there today for chicken fingers, fries, and onion rings. They were so good, just the right amount of chrispness! I have also had their pulled pork sandwich, that is delicious. Coleslaw is crisp and creamy. Mac and cheese, makes you feel like a kid again, it's very good. the ribs are finger licking good.
