Discovered this Italian restaurant adjacent to the Renaissance Hotel Richardson. The Dart station is nearby for travel to downtown Dallas to the south or Plano to the North ( end of the line). Had a terrific dinner for four. The bar is well stocked and easy to sit at. There is outside and patio seating. The atmosphere is welcoming and the red decor is breathtaking. They have live music too. We started off with mixed drinks and wine choices. First service was soft buttery rolls with a dipping sauce of extra virgin olive oil infused with garlic,herbs , and feta cheese. Ordered a small cheese pizza as appetizer for four. One of the most delicious pizzas I've tasted. Upon arrival, my friend and I were waiting to be seated as there were no host to greet us. We had 3-4 waiters/host pass us by before they acknowledged us and seated us. When we were seated we didn't know who our server was as we had 3 different people come up to us, which left a bad taste. All of the employees at Porta Di Roma have been working there since we moved here 25 years ago. It's a cozy and beautiful place with art from local artist everywhere! It is the well priced and delicious food that keeps bringing us back, and for me it's the Salman Picata. I get that and the wife the Cheese Pizza, and we share. My bartender is phenomenal, respect and kind! I really appreciate her. However, her boss doesn't allow adults to order off of the kids menu. I visited for the first time on my lunch break, I just wanted a small pasta dish. I didn't want to spend $20 for a full order that I wouldn't finish but adults can't order that. I was told extra cameras have been added for this very reason. That seems odd and weird to me to restrict menu items because of age. We came to Port de Roma because it was right next to the hotel that our friends were staying at. We had a party of 7 but initially only 3 of us were there. They allowed us to be seated even though we did not have a reservation and our full party was not there. We were immediately given waters, and our drink orders were taken. I got a glass of Pinto Noir, and my husband and daughter got soda. We also ordered appetizers; the calamari and mozzarella sticks. They also brought out fresh bread that was hot from the oven. Once the rest of our party got there, they took their drink orders and also took our food orders. I got the Veal di Masala, my husband got the Stromboli, and my daughter got the Fettuccine Alfredo. My food was super tasty, and the sauce was amazing, and the mushrooms paired so nicely with the meat. My Pinot Noir was one of the best that I have had. I enjoyed it so much that I got a second glass. This restaurant has a decent amount of seating. They also have a full bar and bar seating area as well. One challenge that you may have to conquer is parking. They have limited free street parking for 2 hours. Otherwise, you may have to pay for parking or valet park at the hotel, they do comp the fee if you get something from the restaurant or bar. Our group of 6 arrived at 5:30PM on a Saturday night. We were looking forward to a nice dinner before heading across the street for a 7:30PM show we already had tickets for. We made reservations in advance so were seated quickly. Our server took our drink orders. He didn't say much. After a few minutes he took our food order. A couple people got their mediocre iceberg side salads but after that no other food arrived - unless you count the bread we received after having to ask for it when all the tables around us had bread. We received one piece per person and after the baskets were empty our server removed them and no other bread was given or offered. Once we noticed all the other tables around us had received their food we asked our server if he could check on our order. He said " I can't, i don't work in the kitchen" We went ahead and asked for our checks but we were waiting to pay till after our food arrived ( it never did!). Our server never asked if anyone wanted additional drinks. ( 2 people had mixed drinks, 3 people had wine) At this point it had been an hour and time was ticking away. Fast forward to 7:05PM when we asked again (3rd time) the manager came to our table to apologize that there had been an issue. Our food was never made!!!! ( some issue with our ticket being misplaced) She said she could have it out in 7 minutes. That was not going to work since we had tickets to a show ...so we left. We were hungry and frustrated to say the least especially since we had asked about our order multiple times. Other things I'd like to add - only drink refills we got were ones we had to ask for, the wine that was ordered wasn't poured for us the bottle was just left on the table, the dirty salad plates sat on our table, there was no toilet paper in the first stall in the restroom. We were told by our server that "the chef refused to make pink sauce" ( mix marinara and Alfredo sauce together) As it turns out he refused to make us anything. The server added a 18% gratuity to our checks. Over an hour and a half spent at a restaurant that can't serve food. Unacceptable !!! read more

The owner is soooo nice and courteous that last year when we came to the restaurant, per my daughter's recommendation, they were closed, but the owner invited us in and still fed us as we were starving and nothing else was opened. He even sat with us and visited, showing that's how wonderfully nice he is. For dinner she had chicken piccata and I ordered spaghettini bolognese. When the food came, I asked for parmesan cheese. The server disappeared and apparently promptly forgot. I can accept that, but when I asked a different server the second time, she also never returned. Finally a server came to our part of the restaurant and I was able to get the parmesan, after I had almost finished my meal. Food was OK but not great. Service was not so hot. There are gluten-free options (although not many), so I had the spaghettini con gamberi e salsiccia. It was a flavorful dish with shrimp and spicy sausage that paired well with the house Pinot noir. The process was easy and I showed up only having to wait for 2 mins before my food is ready. The portion for that $12 chicken Caesar salad is pretty small. The greens are pretty small, chicken was dry. The buffalo wings were the same. Pretty dry. $10 for 6 wings and came without any dipping or blue cheese. Won't be back.
