I ordered a pick-up to take home. And let's just say it was the most disappointing dinner ever. To me, it was not worth $38 bucks. Loco Moco (Island Grill) - The grilled beef patty was terrible and dry even with the sauce it still did not help. The fried eggs, one of the eggs, were overcooked where the yolk cooked fully, and the other one was fine sunnyside up. Pork Katsu & Kalbi Short Ribs with Curry Sauce (Island Combo) - Short Ribs were overdone and tasted burnt. Like, not a BBQ tastes like a burnt taste. Pork Katsu was overcooked and dry. When you bite it, it is ready hard, like biting a rock. Plus, that Pork Katsu wasn't even a Pork Katsu. It's like a really thin slice of pork dipped in panko batter. It doesn't even match with the picture. (Japanese restaurants make better Pork Katsu). The curry sauce was at a different level. You can see the sauce sink to the bottom and water floating to the top. I think it was like a water down sauce that they tried to make it last without throwing it away. Overall, the meals, taking a quote from Bob's Burgers, as Bob Belcher says, "Overdone and Dry." Plus, it was missing Macaroni Salad. Even though their website says the Island Grill and Combo include 2 Scoops of Rice, 1 Scoop of Macaroni Salad on a Bed of Cabbage. Will never be coming back here to order food. read more

We rarely try new restaurants via drive by (judging a look by its storefront), but for some reason the little piggy logo had reminded us about the BBQ craving we needed to fill for the night. We find out its recently opened few weeks ago, is a small chain with two other locations in Ewing & Flemington, and is run by Filipino staff (this is a pro). It was easy to call in and order, with food ready for pick up in 15min. I was very happy with my garlic stirfry veggies - simple flavored and lots of variety... and not just mashed up canned up string beans. I also loved the flavor of the shrimp - tangy tender and powerful... first time I've used that adjective to describe food. I was meh about the empanadas (filling too dry for me) and the short ribs (meat too chewy for me), but really enjoyed the sweetness on the cut up pork over (2 types of) rice & beans. I'm not sure if I would fully swap out our current family's go-to (28BBQ) with this, but overall solid first experience and more than willing to try more of their menu. More saucy meats, less salty rice, comparable prizes. read more

Although this was my first visit it was my husband and daughters 2nd and 3rd time here. So glad I finally got to try it!! Staff was great the girls are super friendly and attentive . The food is delicious here and portions are huge we didn't wait too long for our food. So unless you are super hungry I definitely suggest you maybe share. #7 platter was delicious and I enjoyed the beef short ribs. Now I highly recommend the family platters if you have multiple people eating it's definitely a feast and comes with delicious side dishes . The #7 has hawaiian bbq that is full of flavor and the chicken super juicy. The chicken and ribs combo was delicious and full of flavor . The rib meat just falls off the bone so good . We first stopped here two days after its grand opening. You walk in and there was no ventilation, I felt like I was the one being cooked. I felt bad for the patrons sitting there. We placed our order, chicken, rice, fries and ribs. we were told 20 minutes. Returned prior to the time that was due. You would think for something that's hot, you wouldn't be able to carry it, not this case, containers not hot at all. Arrived at home, change clothes, we smelled like we had been cooking all day. The fries were so greasy and limp, not hot. The rice tasted old and not hot whatsoever The chicken had a very nice taste, again, not hot. Family said ribs were ok. We have been so used to 28BBQ in Bound Brook, when you pick up the food, it is steaming hot, prepared right in front of you. All the best to this new business, we're staying with 28 BBQ in my house. read more

Beware the BBQ selection does not come with Spanish rice like other Portuguese BBQ place around the area. We ordered the beef ribs and pork ribs combo and were asked what we wanted for 2 sides and we asked for veggies and beans. Picked up the order, came home and opened up the tray to see no Spanish rice. We've been ordering from Pork Chops since they opened and never had to ask for rice as this is served with rice and 1-2 other sides from other places around the area. I called Pork chops to tell them there was no rice, and was told that it only comes with 2 sides. The ribs portion were less than normally served and dry. They chopped the beef and pork ribs in half to make it seem like a normal portion. But in reality it was half a combo order and the total came out to $36.00. There is no shortage of Portuguese bbq joints in the surrounding 3 towns, at least 3 others in the area and another one coming soon. Each has their own strengths and - therefore for the better or worse - is different from one another. Pork Chops does very well in comparison to the others in some areas, while maybe not so much in others. My order last night was the Pork/Shrimp Picadinho, 1/2 Picanha, 1/2 Chicken, Chicken & Beef Empanadas, Chorizo, Tiramisu, and sides: coleslaw, fries and sweet plantains. Some of the strengths from Pork Chops: they have an extensive menu, including some asian-influenced dishes; their picadinho was the first time I've ever tried it anywhere, and it was pretty stellar; the chorizo appetizer was great; the empanadas are smaller, but arguably better than the other restaurants, especially the chicken; the picanha was standard, but very good because the standard is already high (though, I wish there was a sauce... next time I'd like to try the bife a portuguesa next time instead). The barbecue sauce is better than all the other restaurants, according to my tastes; it was not too sweet, tangy, and viscous in texture. The fries are the best in the area too; they're hand-cut... LOVE IT! All food is homemade, according to one of the employees! Their sweet plantains were good, but I wish that they had tostones. Their chicken was good, but there's another restaurant int he area that puts a better char on theirs. They overload on rice and I couldn't care for the rice, but that's consistent with all the area restaurants. Maybe they allow for rice substitutes? This was my first visit, and I'm certain I'll come back, especially because I wanna try more menu items! I gave it 5-stars because that's what it deserves. It's comparable to the other restaurants in the area, which give 5-star for their own reasons; the value is really good; the flavors are really good... After reading the recent review on NJ.com, we decided to give this place a try, and we're very glad that we did. We both ordered the Grilled Salmon, which was nicely seasoned. It was accompanied by a HUGE portion of very good Spanish-style rice and a generous portion of fresh mixed vegetables. The vegetables (broccoli, green beans, and carrots) were not overcooked--unlike the way that so many other restaurants mistreat their vegetables. So, even the veggies were devoured to the last morsel. Next time, we are going to try the grilled chicken and grilled pork, but I know that we will again order their excellent grilled salmon in the future. This place is now our go-to BBQ restaurant for reasonably-priced, excellent food. read more

We've supported this location so much recently I wish they had a rewards program. Dunellen BBQ is good, but inconsistent, so we decided to give this restuarant a try- and we are so glad we did! Everything we had had been delicious, Hawaiian pork, chicken, rice, bubble tea, chocolate mousse cake- everything is good! My first time trying pork chops bbq was at their Flemington location, the food and customer service was great. Once I found out they opened up another location near my home I was happy. 4/7/23 I visited the middlesex location around 8:15pm. I ordered the daily special of two skewers with Spanish rice ( with the special I asked to have one of each skewer chicken & pork) I also ordered the shrimp in garlic sauce app. I was told it would be 20 mins , I waited in my car and came back in around 8:40. When I got up to the counter the cashier started to bag my order that had been sitting on the counter then she suddenly took one of the containers to the back , she came back to the counter and said 5 more minutes never telling me what happened or why I needed to wait longer. I asked what was wrong with the order you took back she states oh he gave you the daily special instead of the appetizer. I then asked the cashier was the 2 skewer special order (chicken & pork) correct. She looked in the counter and stated yes everything is there. I went back to my car and once I returned to the counter it's now 9pm the appetizer is still not ready the cashier stated 5 more minutes again never apologized for the longer wait or wrong order , I then said you can cancel the order for the appetizer I've been here since 8:15. The cashier gave me a nasty look once I asked for a refund as if I was wrong. The manager over heard our conversation and stated he would process the refund and still give me the appetizer for waiting he was apologetic and very accommodating. Once I got home and ready to eat I noticed I was given two pork skewers instead of one of each. The shrimp in garlic sauce was very good and I love the fact that they devein their shrimp because most Portuguese restaurants don't, the rice was tasty too as for the skewers I gave both to my mom because the chicken one they forgot was for me, my mom said they were good. Just moved to town over about a week ago and went food shopping in the same shopping mall where it's located. A few days later we decided to give it a try and it was not bad at all. The skewers was absolutely tasty as well as the beef short ribs. I didn't care for the their fries and was a little disappointed the chicken was dry, but besides that everything we order was very tasty.
